The park was built in conjunction with the EPA and the city. I imagine that this was part of the builder's agreement to provide green space in order to get their housing unit approvals. In any case, they did a very good job. The path around the perimeter is easy to navigate. There's bathroom facilities; a covered pavilion; a children's playground; benches placed periodically throughout; volleyball sand court; basketball courts; handball courts. All these activity areas are spaced between stately trees, sable palms, and sawgrass palmettos. So glad we stopped by again for some fresh air and a spot of nature. PS You can even rent the park!

You can find the park near the entrance to Calvary Chapel Christian Academy. This park was dedicated in 2003. I was surprised by how much was packed into its 3.26 acres. There is a full basketball court, pavilion with tables and grills, restroom, racquetball court, sand volleyball court, picnic tables, a playground with a toddler area and climbing equipment, slides, and swings for older children, and my favorite a paved nature trail. The trail wasn't very long but it takes you around the perimeter off the park and you could walk it several times. The pavilion can be rented from the city for private events. This park was actually quite busy for a weekday afternoon. Kids were on the playground, there was a basketball game going on, and some people were just sunbathing on the grass. Although a major road is nearby, this park feels like a tucked away secret.

It is one of the city's two major parks. The park recently received a number of improvements including making their athletic fields regulation sized and adding a brand new play ground with ADA accessible equipment and a rubber ground surface. The new playground was built at a cost of $508,550 and features two play areas with a green and blue camouflage theme, one for ages two to five and another for ages five to 12. Other park amenities include barbecue grills, open play area, picnic pavilions, pickleball courts, restrooms, tennis courts, basketball court, and exercise trails. Many of Parklands city baseball, soccer, tennis league, and lacrosse programs are held in the park. While this large park is perfect for sports, it can be enjoyed by anyone who wants to take the kids to play or who enjoys outdoor recreation and exercise.

Frank McDonough moved from Chicago to Florida to escape his hay fever in 1954, two years before Light House Point even became a city. He served on the city commission from 1963 to 1968 and then was appointed mayor in 1968. He was re-elected until he resigned in 1984. In 1989 he was elected as mayor again and formerly retired in 1993 while still staying active in city affairs. In 1982 Lake Placid Park was renamed Frank McDonough Park in honor of his many years of service to the city. Frank McDonough passed away in 2001 at the age of 81. Frank McDonough Park started as a field that city recreation pioneer Dan Witt and some other fathers cleared so that children living in Light House point could have a recreation league of their own. Fifteen pallets of sod were donated so a football league could practice. Today, six acre Frank McDonough Park provides recreation to all ages in Lighthouse Point. The park has a baseball field, football/soccer field, sand volleyball court, 2 racquetball courts, 9 clay tennis courts which is home to the Lighthouse Point Tennis Center, a covered firefighter themed playground with two play area, one for tots, and one for older kids, and restrooms. Added to the park in 2020 is outdoor body-weight resistance workout equipment that includes a sit-up bench, chest press, pull-up bars, leg press, push-up station and more. This park is ideal for sports, play, and working out. The city has even staged concerts in the park in the past. Don't forget to stop by the Heroes Shrine located in the northwest corner of the park where you will find a memorial to those who serve in the military and first responders.

The kiddie water park is named Cypress Marsh Splash Pad was not in use today. Visited here today with my wife and had a good experience and was satisfied with the cleanliness of the park.

The half mile walking trail was nice with butterflies flying around. The bathroom was very clean with a maintenance woman working inside. Not sure when the front gates close but it is a nice park to visit for quiet time or with the kids.
