Anne Kolbe does not allow fishing but Lake Forest Park does. Lake Forest Park has two overlook piers for fishing on the intracoastal waterway. The trail has a boardwalk that goes over channels that connect the intracoastal waterway with the Atlantic Ocean and West Lake. Lining the waterway is an important environmentally sensitive mangrove swamp. Mangroves protect shorelines from storm and hurricane damage, prevent erosion, maintain water quality and clarity by filtering pollutants and trapping sediments, and they provide nesting and breeding habitat for fish and shellfish and migratory birds. As the dying leaves fall off the mangroves into the water they form a nutrient rich soup that feeds animals. As the tide goes out the food and animals are drawn into the intracoastal to feed predators. The tide washes animals in search of food back into the estuary. Even if you are not fishing this is a very pleasant walk with beautiful views of the intracoastal. In the preserve you may see crabs, fish, birds, and even manatee in the winter. Sadly not everyone who comes here to fish takes their garbage back out with them. Take only pictures and leave only footprints.

In addition to the parks, Coconut Creek also has greenways. The greenways are closed to vehicles and make safe travel possible. The city has made many improvements to the greenways through grants from Broward Beautiful, Kodak American Greenways, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The paths are often short, most are only a quarter of a mile, but they are still a nice place to walk around. The Hilton Road Greenway is .28 of a mile. Like all of the greenways it has lights, benches, and garbage cans. The greenway begins at Hilton Road where there is a parking lot and it ends at Alexandria Boulevard. The pathway is paved but it has a barrier to prevent vehicles from going through making it ideal for biking, walking, or skateboards. On either side of the greenway are neighborhoods and a nature preserve. If the Hilton Road Greenway is too short for you, it connects to the newly renovated Winston Park Nature Trail that ends at Winston Park Nature Center. I had a lovely time exploring this area today. I saw so many birds, butterflies, and lizards. I haven't been here in awhile so it was nice to discover all of the improvements in this part of town. I saw a lot of people out enjoying these paths today. Coconut Creek does a great job of maintaining it's parks as evidenced by the well maintained greenway and the new nature trail.

And even though it was short, it was nice so I checked out the City of Coconut Creeks website to see what other Greenway trails they have constructed. At the time, the Hilton Road Greenway was the only other trail shown on the website so naturally we rode over here coming from State Road 7 (the west end of the trail). After leaving (going east) from State Road 7 it immediately becomes residential in a well manicured community. Then the entrance to the trail becomes apparent. It appears to be a roadway with a bike path separated by about 10' swale of grass but the roadway now includes a roadway closure barrier so only bikes and pedestrians on foot can come through this area. And the roadway was modified to be narrower than a typical roadway and now it's clearly not for motorized vehicles. Just like the Long Pine Greenway, the City of Coconut Creek did provide park benches and garbage cans and they maintain the landscaping. The south side of the trail is lined with the backside of residential homes but you really don't notice them since they are made private with a landscaped berm and large hedge. The north side of the trail is a protected preserve area but with the chainlink fence it's not the most lovely site but not terribly bad either. At the east end of the trail, the City constructed a small parking area so people can drive over and enjoy a nice stroll. It's another short ride (0.3 miles) but a nice ride.

Inside the park, there are many facilities like a soccer field, baseball field, and pickleball courts (which used to be a basketball court). There are also many trees that provide good shade. You can see different kinds of animals such as ducks, squirrels, parrots (a lot of them), owls, and iguanas. Today, I even saw a softshell turtle, which was very special. It shows that the park is well cared for and supports nature. The park is very clean overall. However, one problem is not the park itself, but some visitors. I often see people leave trash like water bottles, snack bags, and other garbage, especially on weekends during events or soccer games. This is disappointing because there are many trash bins available in the park. Overall, it is a beautiful and well-maintained park, but visitors should help keep it clean.

They also have two sets of swings that are small and medium. The park is fenced all around and there is soft padded fake grass on the floor. My only con is that there is no bathroom near the playground... not sure why they didn't think of that. Either way, it's one of my favorite parks!

The parking lot has only three spots and one handicapped space. The playground is small and clean, and it looks like the playset has been renovated. My daughter really enjoyed it.

This is one of several Coral Springs namesake parks. This park was dedicated to Paul Britton in…read more1994, the year after he passed away. Mr. Britton was a WWII veteran and Senior Vice-President for 15 years of Coral Ridge Properties which developed the City of Coral Springs in the 1960's. Coral Ridge properties enacted strict landscaping and sign laws to make sure the city stayed beautiful. Mr. Britton helped develop the roads and parks in Coral Springs. There is a nice little memorial to him in the corner of the park. Other park amenities include basketball courts, a picnic pavilion and a playground. Eagle Ridge Elementary School is next door. During the pandemic the city improved the park by installing concrete curbs around equipment and sidewalks as well as new wood fiber. The playground is still closed. There isn't much here but this park does contain a nifty little piece of Coral Springs history.

Love the fact that they have emergency stations all around with AED machines and around the lake with rescue flotation devices. Definitely was built with a child safety mindset as many kids playing sports at the park etc. Park is clean and well maintained all around. Parking is a plenty but can get packed and busy with local sports in play.

Excellent park offers baseball and soccer fields as well as tennis and basketball courts all very well kept. Bathrooms are clean and safe. There are also playgrounds and climbing areas for the kids and gazebos to celebrate birthdays. Classic family oriented Coral Springs vibe. Plenty of green areas and there are nice lake areas. Safety is always first in Coral Springs, you can find life vest stations all around the lake areas and AED and CPR stations with photo instructions complete with solar panel. Easy, plenty and convenient parking.

This park is called Rivermont in the Sailboat Bend neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale. It is an…read morearcheological site. Artifacts discovered there by archeologists indicate that the Seminole and Miccosukee tribe's ancestors once occupied it. The original property was known as Rivermont, located at 1016 Waverly Road on the banks of the New River, and it was dotted with oak and palm trees. A 1918 built pioneer home that sat on the site's midden, or mound, was demolished several years ago. Middens often contain domestic waste, which may consist of animal bone, botanical material, shells, potsherds and other artifacts associated with past human occupation. "This site represents the most intact and deepest surviving black earth midden along the New River, with at least 2,000 years of prehistoric occupation. It likely is the best-preserved prehistoric site in eastern Broward County," city archeologists said in a 2020 survey report. The report said the site has intact archaeological deposits as deep as four feet. Ceramic dating and archival research indicates the site was used during periods roughly between 500 B.C. and 1513 A.D., as well as during the second and third Seminole Wars (1835-1858) and throughout the middle 19th century. Prehistoric artifacts found at the site include shell refuse and faunal bones. The most common artifact was pottery - 1,414 ceramic sherds were found. Oyster shell, animal bones (mostly fish), conch shell, and charcoal were also discovered. Bone artifacts include bone point or pin fragments, perforated shark vertebrae, and a drilled shark tooth. Sunfish, gar, and shark were identified, along with amphibians and reptiles such as soft shell turtle, box turtle and alligator. Mammals identified at the site include deer and raccoon. During a 2006 survey, a blue Seminole glass trade bead was found at the site, and a human molar was found in one shovel test in 2014.

When you enter the preserve there is an interpretive sign with a map and information about the history of the preserve. From there you walk up a paved path to a boardwalk that takes you over the cypress strand swamp. It is just beautiful to see how this area looked before the surrounding neighborhood was built on top of it. After you cross the boardwalk you can take another paved path to the back of the preserve where there are two picnic tables. Walking around I was surprised out how large the preserve actually was. You can't get a proper scope from outside the fence. Residents of Broward County are so lucky this preserve was saved because it was slated to become an office building in the mid 80's. A bond was passed in 2000 and Broward County purchased the property from the Shooster family. Now you can see a variety of native trees and plants which include oak hammocks, live oaks, and ferns. The preserve is a safe haven to birds, butterflies, frogs, and turtles and vulnerable and threatened fauna including the Eastern Spadefoot Toad, Squirrel Tree Frog, and Florida Box Turtle. This is my favorite new place to enjoy nature. Come out and experience this natural gem.

It has a paved walkway that is about 1/3 mile long. There are a few benches and a picnic table along the way, but there is not much shade. Most of the walkway is out in the open. Not a preserve I would recommend considering we have so many other ones in South Florida with much better scenery and facilities.
