My husband and I were craving Italian and finally decided to give this place a try. We've always shied away because of how loud the restaurant is that is next to them. Not their fault just a little unfortunate. They had their own live singers that night and it worked out well. We stood for a minute before being sat. The hostess was kind and gave us the option of the area to be seated in. We sat for around 10-15 watching server by server pass us by. I tried getting the attention of one and she just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. At this point we decided to leave. At this point a server who was prepping to leave for the night opted to stay and take care of us. Her kindness quickly turned our experience around. She offered us an app and a dessert on the house to make up for the first impression. She brought us a fici bruschetta. It was different from bruschettas I've had in the past but in a good way. The bread and oil they bring to the tables are also really good as well. I ordered agnolotti and added blackened chicken. My husband ordered a medium rare carre di agnello (lamb shanks). My food was great. The pasta tasted super fresh and the sauce was so so yummy. My husband on the other hand received very well done lamb shanks. He tried eating it but along with them being I overcooked they weren't seasoned well. After much convincing on my part he asked for a different dish. He ordered the parpadelle with blackened chicken. He was much happier with this choice. Again the pasta was fresh and just right. We ended up getting the tiramisu and it may be the best one I've had. They ended up comping our entire meal which they most certainly didn't have to do. We had to beg them to ring us up for something so we could tip because rasheeda and Maggie took such great care of us. I would really have given this a 4.5. They only lost the half due to the other servers negligence and my husbands lamb. But as long as the ladies we had are there we will be back. read more

Just had a wonderful dinner with friends at Salute. The outdoor dining area is fantastic and all six of us enjoyed our dinners from salads to entrees. Entrees included snapper, seafood risotto, and homemade pasta. All were delicious! Our enjoyment was enhanced by the amazing service provided by Jessica, our friendly and attentive server. Without skipping a beat, she split salads shared by each couple, made excellent suggestions for wine and entree choices, and provided separate checks to each couple without request. They have a high end service, good wine list with adequate prices and large selection that range from Italy (mainly), France, Spain, Napa, to Australia and South Africa! My husband and I decided to go here to celebrate my birthday. It's a place that I've walked by a hundred times during the day (only open for dinner). I've always wanted to try it because of it's outdoor seating and nice, casual vibes. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. Sometimes they have live music. When they don't you can always count of listening to the close-by musicians at Mattison's next door. They also have outdoor heaters so keep you toasty on a brisk evening. The menu was filled with tasty sounding food. The waiter was helpful in recommending something for our special evening. I had Linguine Scoglio which was a pasta with marinara sauce and filled with a hearty portion of shrimp, mussels, clams, and calamari. It was not something I had tasted before and it rocked my world! The husband had Carre di Agnello and wow! It's a dijon mustard and herb crusted rack of lambs. It was so tender and full of flavor. The waiter offered tiramisu as a complimentary dessert to celebrate the special occasion. He offered to take our photos too. Needless to say, he went above and beyond to make our night special. We sat outside which was nice but for an upscale Italian restaurant they had a guy playing an acoustic guitar and singing 60's rock music which ruined the feel. fantastic location. we were a group of 5 and sat under the roof outside. our wait staff was wonderfully attentive, and our server Fatih was very nice and efficient. everyone enjoyed their dinner and the offering of crunchy sliced bread 2 times. i would offer a suggestion on a few things: i think if you shrunk the menu offerings down to half as much or less it would be much better. less is best, and makes it easier to choose. plus it seems more elegant to have a smaller menu. my meal was the pasta with spinach and ricotta? it was extremely tasty but it just seemed like it should have included a side, possibly a house salad. lastly it would nice to have a weekly 3-ish course meal special, per person or couple. these are just suggestions because you have a great restaurant and bar and your food is very tasty. we all enjoyed our dinner. thank you! read more

Did a takeout order for 5 people. The food arrived earlier than expected and was very warm and fresh. The eggplant parm was amazing as was the penne vodka. Fresh mozzarella bufolata was also great. Very good bread and the olive oil provided was delicious. House Salads were pretty basic. Only problem was they forgot one item on the order, a caprese salad. I called and told them they can just refund it versus sending one item out. No desserts were offered on the menu. They should add something. So we went to Bevardi's Salute for dinner. The food was superb, and the atmosphere was perfect. I don't think I've ever written a review about a restaurant after only one visit, but our first visit here was so good that I decided to break that "rule". We had tried (to no avail) to get into one of our favorite downtown Sarasota places to eat, and walked down Main Street looking for options. Mattison's was just too noisy. We stopped next door and were reviewing the menu at Salute! when the hostess walked out and greeted us. Frankly, it looked like the restaurant was closed, but that was deceptive due to the extensive size of the place. She showed us the inside dining options and we chose to eat in the "Wine Room", a lovely brick and bottle lined room with six tables. Our server, Natalia was appropriately attentive and made the specials sound so appetizing that we chose the Burrata Mozzarella / Melon / Prosciutto appetizer and the Seafood Risotto entree -- both to share. All that with a nice bottle of Chardonnay from their wine list and we were in culinary heaven. We spend half a year in the Bradenton/Sarasota area and the other half in Northern New Jersey. This is the first Italian Ristorante in Florida that gave our NJ options a run for their money. We will surely be back! read more

We have been to Salute many times. We learned during our most recent visit that there is a new chef, Marco. The food was always great...it's now even better. We had a grilled octopus appetizer, which was outstanding. For entrees, we had ravioli aragosta and chicken carciofi. Both were also excellent. As always, we requested our favorite server, Maggi. Has a lot of possibilities but disappointed. Has great outdoor seating, very nice music, and the menu looks fantastic. But the service was very slow, to the point we considered getting up and leaving, and then when our food arrived items were forgotten and the food was served somewhere between slightly warm and cold. In my case, the dish being so cold it was ruined and caused the homemade pasta (kind of a signature part of the restaurant) to turn into a glob of ............. something. I literally couldn't pull it apart and at one point just flipped the single glob over trying to coat it with the warm liquid on my plate. Our waiter seemed nice enough, she just didn't seem to care much. I suspect our dishes were cold because of her lack of urgency. Would I go back? Maybe. There were a lot of people there and all the appearances suggest our experience was an outlier. It's a nice atmosphere and seems like there's the possibility of authentic and tasty Italian food. Where to start? Party of 9 celebrating 2 birthdays. Reservations were for 6:30 pm. 3/4 of the party was seated at 6:30 the rest had called the ahead to the restaurant to let them know the rest of the party was running a few minutes late. No worries... Everyone sat by 6:45 pm. Now we wait. Tick tock..... 7:00 rolls around and our waitress pops over to fill water glasses...... disappears. Few minutes later, another person drops off ONE basket of bread along with ONE small dish of oil with a DASH of seasoning in it for a table of NINE! We grab another waiter to bring us more bread, oil, and S&P. 7:10 pm.... our waitress shows up at take our drink order. Then leaves. We get our drinks about 8 min later. No complaints. But our waitress disappeared again. 7:15 pm.....30 minutes after our entire party was sat.....One of our party complained to the hostess and we were told we would get another wait staff member. Good. Then at 7:20 SHE (same waitress) showed up and says "Are we ready to order?" Well, we might be if you stuck around long enough to tell us the specials for the night??? So we all finally order. We ordered 2 carpaccio apps for the table. I should have taken a picture! It looked like a green wreath of arugula! The meat was buried underneath the greens. Ok. No biggie. One dish had balsamic vinegar splashed around the plate, the other nothing but lemon juice. Now we wait again. 8:00 pm....Hostess noticed my drink was empty and brought me another. 8:30 pm, we complained and questioned when our food was coming. Was told by the waitress that she had just asked the manager to check on our dishes. 8:40 pm. Food arrives with help. At least 3 people serving us! A little overkill but we'll take it since staff had been non-existent for 2 hours!!!! Here's the best part........ almost everyone's dish was lukewarm at best. We're talking Pasta alla vokda, Filet mignon, Saltimbucca, Chicken Parm...potatoes not fully cooked (came with the Filet and chicken parm), pasta cooked much less than al dente. Ridiculous. We, of course, complained. They offered a round of drinks. Hmmm...... 4 people were not drinking and the fifth and sixth person were not having another drink, free or not. So they offered a dessert sampler platter. Ha ha! For 9 people the took one piece of tiramisu, cannoli, and Chocolate mousse cake, all cut into the smallest pieces possible. Then stuck them on a platter with some whipped cream and a few cut and mushy strawberries. The ugliest thing I've ever seen! We discussed the bill with our server. She took off the drinks on my family's bill....2 drinks.... about $22. Took the meals off another couple, and a meal off another bill. Gave 3 people another drink on the house. We FINALLY left at 9:40 pm!!! THREE HOURS FOR DINNER! We had plans to go for birthday ice cream after dinner. But it was TOO late. Everyone by this time was tired and ready to call it quits for the night. We paid the parking meter for 2 hours thinking that was PLENTY of time. We said something to the waitress at 8:45 about the meter and her response was to let us know that they don't give out tickets after 8:30! Good to know if we EVER visit again. Here's the thing. We had 10 people for a birthday celebration back in Sept. Believe it or not.... same waitress! We had issues back then but not to this level. Many in our party blamed the kitchen. While yes, the kitchen was a part of the problem, our waitress had very little communication with our table. Each time she was at our table it was for a minute and then she was gone. As a former waitress myself, you need to greet your table and tell the specials. Nope. Have no idea her name nor were we welcomed to the restaurant by her. The manager, knowing we were having problems, never popped over to apologize or talk to us in any capacity. Now if you're wondering if we left tips or not... yes. We left tips based on what our bills would have been if they had not comped some items. Actually, my husband tipped 25% (not intentionally though) based on what he thought the bill was going to be!!! His math was off. Bonus for our awful service. Normally, the food and service is good. But the last couple of times, not so good with last night being horrendous! Yes, they were busy, but so are a lot of other restaurants and they still manage to deliver decent service and food. A lot of the problems could have been alleviated through communication from the restaurant staff. After a 2 hour wait, we were all too upset to enjoy our evening. Call the police! Given the load of options of outstanding eateries in and around Sarasota, a bad meal is criminal! The service was "ok" when we were finally waited on after having to ask one of the many hosts/hostesses. The chicken in 2 of the meals was very dry. The sides portions were very small, 2 pieces of broccoli and 2 tiny potatoes cut in half. The sauce was bland. Might I suggest new heat lamps? The ones there "have seen better days" per the guy who lit them and I must agree with him. They are rusty and rickety and the swaying post made us nervous while we ate.
