I am not sure why we were able to get in at Chaz 51 this evening, but we did. We like to go for dinner after golf. Chaz 51 has a bar menu that's perfect. After golf we prefer the bar rather than the main dining room. Their bar menu has shrimp tacos, beef Wellington, mussels and ahi tuna and many other upscale meals. We do miss the live music in the lounge. Sigh. Folks if you want a fantastic meal this is where you need to go. The main dining room has a fantastic menu which includes steakhouse fare and one or two seafood dishes. The lounge has an upscale bar menu. All in all I have no idea why it was so easy to get in. Decided to go out for dinner and wanted something on the nicer side. Didn't feel like driving to Sarasota so went to Chaz 51 in Venice for the first time. We didn't have a reservation but were seated promptly in about 10 minutes. This must be a popular place for celebrations as we were asked by 3 different people, literally every employee we interacted with, if we were celebrating anything...tonight we were just celebrating dinner! I was prepared to splurge and spend any amount of money tonight. Started with a couple of old fashioned drinks. They had an impressive Bourbon menu, however...They didn't have the Blantons Gold, didn't have the regular Blantons, No Eagle Rare, only had enough Four Roses for one, it was hard to get anything special as the actual selection was limited. We ordered the $22 Bacon wrapped scallop appetizer and were disappointed to only get 3 very small scallops. They were good but we expected more for the price. How do 2 people split 3 tiny scallops? They came on a bed of spinach, which I enjoyed. I ordered the 11oz strip steak with blue cheese crust which was cooked as ordered and tasted fine. Nothing special, but a decent steak. My wife enjoyed the pink snapper however, she ordered rice and it came with potato wedges instead. Our server was very nice and was attentive. However the second round of drinks took too long to come to the table. Like 15 minutes too long. Our meal with appetizers and drinks and tip was around $200. We love Chaz 51. Our go-to steakhouse in SW FL for birthdays and anniversaries. The service is top notch, excellent cocktails and solid wine list. The atmosphere is upscale but it's also casual. The steaks are always quality and cooked to perfection. Don't let the fact that the restaurant is in a strip mall/plaza fool you, this is a great steakhouse with phenomenal food!! This was our second visit to Chaz 51 and definitely our last. The mixed drinks were awful and the wait for our entrees was over 30 minutes. And the restaurant was empty! Initially, we were very turned off because the steakhouse was so highly rated, but it ended up being literally in a strip mall. The food was good to very good. Waitress was on point. First time trying out this wonderful establishment! Celebrated my Mom's birthday, we loved the food ( lollipop lamp chips, sriracha shrimp over colorful slaw, zucchini fries and chilled crab salad. We stopped here to have a birthday dinner. Great choice! We started with the pick two. My choice was the Caesar salad with a bowl of French Onion Soup. My wife had the House and the French onion soup.The salads and soups were both delicious, although there was too much dressing on the Caesar and not enough on the house salad. Next I had the naked beef burger with grilled onions,green peppers and mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly however the onions need to be cooked longer. My wife opted for the chicken tacos. Very impressed with Chas 51. When I made the reservation, I mentioned that we were celebrating an anniversary. When we arrived, they greeted us with a Happy Anniversary wish. There was also a nice card on the table. The service and the food were top-notch. A couple of constructive comments: the green peppercorn sauce was good, but I couldn't taste any peppercorns. I also would suggest some sort of screen for the windows. When you're dining in a fine dining establishment, you don't want to look out the window and see a parking lot. Highlights of my dining experience here are the appetizers and customer service. Appetizers ordered were the sriracha shrimp & zucchini fries. Both were very tasty. On the flip side, I did not enjoy my entree. I ordered a medium well NY strip with French fries. Was delivered to me well done & the fries were old and awful. The owner/manager did try to make it right but serving me a better version of my order actually done as ordered & stayed to make sure it was to my liking. Much appreciative of that great service! Updating my review with a very mixed opinion. After my first trip with the waitress moving a plate into my hand resulting in a double lined burn on my finger, the owner reached out to me wanting to make a new experience upon my return. So, we gave it another whirl. When I made the reservation, I commented in my notes on the yelp reservation that we were returning and to please let the owner know because he requested that. I honestly do not think anyone relayed the message. To start off with we had one waitress, and she was not very knowledgeable about the menu. When we asked her questions, we could never get a direct answer and she was very vague and left us feeling a bit awkward. An example would be I asked what the upgrade was for the spinach salad with the coconut dressing and she said that it was only spinach leaves and coconut balsamic dressing. Sounded kind of odd to me, but I ordered it anyway because I like coconut. When I got my salad, it was literally spinach leaves, feta, and a side of what tasted more like Italian dressing to me. Later when we got our bill, there was an eight dollar charge and I asked the new waitress that we had about it and she started explaining a salad that was nothing like I received with spinach and fruit and nuts and all kinds of stuff. She did removed the charge. Then, my friend is celiac and inquired as to the options on the menu and went over things because she will get very ill if she has any trace of gluten. Later her French onion soup was set in front of her. She dipped her spoon in and had bread on it. At this point, a new waitress came over and the owner came over as well with apologies and I know they were taking accountability for what happened and apologetic. I'm assuming we had a waitress change because of the soup mix up. Our new waitress was very communicative and deserves praises for kindness and attentiveness. Our entrees were good and cooked accurately. I loved my baked potato and scallops. My friend says that his lamp was cooked really well and that is a challenge to do so! I was a bit confused on my entree, as I ordered surf and turf thinking it was just plain medallions, but they were set on a mushroom sauce and I hate mushrooms. The confusion really was on my end and nothing with the restaurant because the item above it gave a thorough description of what their petite medallions were and this was that entree combined with a seafood option. That was completely my mistake. At the end of our meal, we were offered desserts. I asked for bread pudding to go and my friend ordered crème brûlée. We were brought the crème brûlée and I never saw my bread pudding. At that point I was just full and thought it best not to have it. The owner did step outside with us as we left and inquired again as to all of our experience and where they failed. In my honest opinion, Chaz is a upstanding restaurant owner who truly desires to make sure his employees and chefs are held to a high regard and that his patrons all have a noteworthy experience. The scallops in the appetizer did not taste fresh at all. Rather bland even with a mildly spicy dressing My dinner salad with filet was very nice. Meat was flavorful and tender. Salad was fine but could have used some dried cranberries or something sweet. Plenty of blue cheese... nice touch of avocado...salad dressing was nice but I'm glad I got it on the side as it would have overwhelmed the salad My husband had seafood diavolo and he really enjoyed it. This is our 2nd visit to Chaz 51 and it was delicious . Our server, Shay, was amazing! She was very knowledgeable with the menu items and has a fantastic personality. I had the Surf & Turf with a baked potato. So delicious, both the meat and lobster were tender and full of flavor. My husband had the 14oz Boneless Ribeye with Linguine Butter Sauce, he said the Ribeye was very flavorful and juicy, the linguine was one of the best he's ever had. We also had the Sangria which had a mix of tangy and sweetness, very refreshing. We were too full to have dessert, but we are taking home cheesecake and crème brûlée, looking forward to them. I will start by saying this is the best steak in Florida but sadly they continue to make big time mistakes and below average service. Spelled my name wrong for the birthday card and told them to correct it and was still spelled incorrectly on dessert. Total fail! They do try to make it special for a birthday with decorations on your table with a card but they need to know how to spell names correctly! No apologies given. Felt like it was bad luck to have a misspelled name also. Bad omen. Been here for the 2nd time and it has been confirmed for a consistently well done steak. But they've messed up my drink orders the first time around. Our waiter was not friendly at our table and kept pushing the same drink for me to order but I did not want it. He hardly came by but was seen nicer to others when the guests weren't as nice to him but had bottles of wine at their table. Very odd to see. Feeling a bit discriminated and not comfortable around him. Big space and they get busy. This was for a special occasion and a very far drive so the dinner should have been better than expected for the overall experience but at least the steak was good. The appetizer bread was excellent. That's about it. The steak was not good. The picture is supposed to be a 6oz filet mignon. It was not, not even a filet and definitely not med well. The picture of the plate that I showed was half of what supposed to be the replacement filet mignon. The replacement was not enjoyed and it was not eaten. You did not replace it with a bigger filet mignon it was replaced with a sirloin. 2nd the fact that it was turned around quickly made it even clearer that a different piece was not cooked. What we got was plate that was waiting to get picked up. The plate came back with carrots that were not ordered And under cooked and it was a sirloin and not a filet. Very disappointed in our dinner at Chaz. We waited nearly 30 min for a dinner salad after ordering and then 5 min later our main course arrived. The steak was marginal at best, drowning in peppercorn sauce. The lyonnaise potatoes could have been simple breakfast potatoes. I will say that the wait staff was very warm and concerned about our service. I feel badly for them that their tips likely reflected poor kitchen management and lackluster food for many customers. This was our first time dining at Chaz 51 Steakhouse and glad that we did. At first I was put off by the decor as it seems like it needs a bit more to add to the dining experience. Glad that we were seated in a booth and that they had frosted glass so you had some privacy. The bar was away from the main dining area which I was happy with given that area sometimes can get loud. The hostess was very welcoming. Our waitress, Jess, was friendly and we enjoyed speaking with her. She was attentive and patient as well which we appreciated. If it wasn't Valentine's Day I would give it lower. We had 7:00 reservations but were 30 minutes late being seated. I think they skipped us because others were being sat. The server was newer. It took a long time for him to take our food orders. My salad was sitting around for a while as the lettuce was limp. It took forever to get our food. We were given half off our wine and many other tables were given freebies. The steak was overcooked for both of us. The restaurant was so short staffed, and the service people tried so hard to make everything okay, we actually felt bad for them. A 2 hour wait for main courses. We were a big family group of 16 people, many visiting prior to Thanksgiving. I wanted my adult kids to have the fun experience of the bubble topped cocktails. The bubble gun was broken and there was no bartender. Our wait staff had that job on their shoulders as well. Drinks weren't good so even a smoke bubble wouldn't have helped anyway. Almost everyone enjoyed their steaks--filets & New York strips. The mussels were tasty but at least 1/4 were not opened so inedible. The lobster tails were very small but tasted okay. We have heard of this hidden gem since we moved here about six months ago. We finally had some free time from unpacking, and decided to check it out... let's just say "didn't disappoint" is an understatement! Hubs and I decided to try the wine flight (mainly my decision!). The presented wines were top notch, and the presentation was fun! I had the filet with mushrooms and potato wedges. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare, the mushrooms were tender and juicy, and the potato was crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside (someone clearly knows what they are doing!). He started with sriracha shrimp ... perfectly fried... not rubbery at all! Then moved on to the NY strip (again perfect Med Rare!), loaded baked potato, and broccoli (someone is healthy!). It's rare to find a loaded baked potato around here, so this hit the spot! Should also point out, both dinners included a starter salad and we opted for the ranch, which was quite possibly the best I've had in ages! We will absolutely be back... and next time I'm trying the Bubbly Dorothy cocktail for a pre-dinner cocktail - high end vodka (Kettle), St. Germaine, lemon, and bubbly!
