I came in looking for a smog check and was told my catalytic converter needed to be warmed up by driving more (I received a NOT READY status). I did 30 mins on the freeway and was told again that I needed to drive even more to warm the cat up. After almost 100 miles of freeway driving and hours of my time the technician told me I needed to drive even MORE and that was the only way the car would pass. Obviously this is very unusual and when I asked if something could be wrong with the car he said I just needed to drive more. After this he got frustrated with me told me he "gave up" and that if I went to get a second opinion from someone else they would just tell me the same thing... he stormed back inside and I never saw him again. Luckily I did NOT take his advice this time and I went to another location and after a 30 minute assessment and a quick 10 mile drive the technician diagnosed an issue with a part, fixed it and passed me for $45. Saved me another few hours of driving and another 100 miles on my car had I listened to the guy at Beverly Hills Smog. Quick and easy as this process should be. The job at this smog check was ultimately not finished and I never received any further advice on what might be wrong with the car that one would expect from a professional at a shop like this much less an offer for a refund considering I never even got a proper pass/fail. There are plenty of places around with this rate, I would recommend choosing another spot to go to who can give you real, useful advice in the case that something is actually wrong with your car. read more
