Yeah cuts like a knife.......here comes the emergency room visit..... Cooking at home can be a dangerous sport sometimes. I would like to submit as evidence my adventure in the mixed culinary arts this past Sunday evening. I was making some black beans and rice for supper. I was prepping the vegetables and started to slice up an onion and somehow sliced a bit of my left index finger...OUCH! Well that wasn't the first word out of my mouth but that is what I felt at that moment. I bandaged myself up only to discover Monday morning that the wound was going to need a professional opinion. I made my way to Beverly Hospital and their ER. The staff was courteous and professional. I had a nurse look at the wound in under 15 minutes and a doctor in an hour. Another nurse came and applied the new dressing and administered the Tetanus shot. The check out process was quick too. If you find yourself in need of ER attention in the North Shore you are in good hands at Beverly Hospital. read more

I loved my labor and delivery experience at Beverly Hospital! They were so kind, and I LOVED that I had a dedicated nurse all to myself. She was great! The Maternity floor was great, too. All of the nurses gave us a ton of great advice, and the classes were wonderful, too. I loved that I could choose to room-in or keep the baby in the nursery. I didn't feel guilty at all about sending him to the nursery when I needed a bit of rest. I can't give this hospital 5 stars, simply because there certainly were flaws with our stay (the nurses' station was LOUD at 7 am). But, overall, I would definitely recommend this hospital to future mothers and fathers. read more

I've been here more than a handful of times for different reasons, mostly the ER. The building is very nice and the lunch food is very good. The waiting times here are ridiculous for anything. If you are lucky you will get an attentive nurse. There are a few great nurses and doctors here, but most of the time you won't get them. If you have a true emergency I don't recommend coming here, although there's not much choice in the area. read more

This is really a great hospital. When I say great, I mean they are really great. The doctors are knowledgeable, helpful and know what they are doing. That being said, they have one glaring error, and for a hospital, it is a HUGE error. It's their ER. I've never been to another hospital emergency room so I have no basis for comparison, but every time I've been there (once for me, once for my dad and twice for my grandfather) they have taken forever to get us into an exam room. This has to take away two stars because it can be argued the ER is the most important part of the hospital. It's a matter of life and death. When we went with my dad, we thought he had a heart attack. Every time I've gone, it has taken AT LEAST an hour. If you come by ambulance, then you do get taken in right away. But, what they don't realize is it is sometimes more convenient to come by car. I think they think if you come by ambulance, your illness/injury/condition is more serious. WRONG! All that being said, they are for the most part a great hospital, especially because they are right down the street. I think it was stupid of them to build a parking garage, because frankly that is a waste of money. I wis they would use that money to hire more doctors or do whatever it is they have to do to reduce waiting times. Note to Beverly Hospital: It's not about how many parking garages you have, what matters is saving lives. Yes, you need some of the latest technology to assist you in saving lives, but that doesn't include parking garages. read more

My parent had surgery here and we NEVER got any updates on his discharge day. They kept him another day with out informing any contacts. Lost pay with work because of your lack of communication. Our family will never use you again. read more

ER specific review . This isn't a review of one particular visit. More so the last number of visits I've had. I've had day long waits for problems both big and small. Long waits after drs have referred me to visit immediately. I am a CNA and take pride in safety precautions & cleanliness. I've consistently seen nurses here use no gloves/ not wash hands before medical procedures. One woman in my room at a time did this before wrapping my fresh stitches. She threw out a bunch of trash with no gloves , and went on to wrap my stitches with no hand washing! I stared at her as if i had seen a ghost. How can anybody be so careless? Staff here needs some formal retraining. I was horrified to tears. I got out as fast as my discharge papers came. That was my last visit there, and I'd never bring myself (or anybody i know) to this Emergency room location. read more

Beverly Hospital is up and coming. It looks good with the new renovations and parking garage. It is a bit confusing for a new person coming in, as I was just last year. It was all a bit overwhelming and not knowing where to go. The desk attendant seemed preoccupied. I am sure the work is constant and busy for her but it didn't ease my anxiety. To top it all off, I had some blood work done. They apparently had a new person do it and couldn't get blood out. She kept moving the needle and after a gasp and an ummmm she said I can't get anything. The other nurse was like do this. That is when I looked down in horror to see nothing coming out. Then it spurt like old faithful. I was so grossed out and I am not even the type to freak about blood. Needless to say it didn't give me a good first impression. I have been back since and had other blood work, examinations and everything was top notch. Staff was friendly and helpful. Just one bad first experience. It happens but it definitely effects the rating I gave. Loss of a star due to that. read more

I don't even know where to begin on this experience. This past Wednesday I was brought into the er by ambulance at 8:45 pm. The norm seems to be, being left on a gurney in the hallway. Ok....I get it, they were busy. It's now roughly around 3 hours I had been laying there before the nurse ( Geneva ) got to me. Not only did she lack compassion but boy....was she rude rude rude Not only was she rude and bitchy...she obviously doesn't care about patient safety. I watched as a man was brought into the bathroom on what one would call a hoyer lift. While he was in the bathroom, I watched nurse ratchet ( Geneva ) go into the gentleman's room. I think she changed his sheets but she did most definitely take his used chuck off the bed and throw it in the soiled linen container without gloves on. Gross I thought. What threw me for a loop was the fact that as I was watching her I noticed she did NOT wash her hands nor did she use the hand sanitizer dispenser and she then proceeded to the iv cart and come to my bed side to put in an iv. Are you kidding!!!!!! Oh Hell No!!!!!! Anyway, after that nightmare, I asked for a warm blanket. I was told that I could not have one because I had a fever and the chills. Ok....can I just have a blanket? About an hour goes by, still no blanket from nurse ratchet. The woman who took me down to get a chest X-ray was kind enough to get me a blanket. ( Thank You, whoever you are ) By this time, I'm pretty annoyed and beyond aggravated. Finally at this point I decided to try and get someone's attention. As I layed there being passed by like I was invisible, I loudly called out..... HELLO, CAN YOU SEE ME, COULD I GET A SIP OF WATER, A TYLENOL, MAYBE A DR? Apparently the ER dept don't like when you speak up because that means they actually have to work. I felt like saying, oh geez...I'm sorry I'm sick and you actually have to do your job. I didn't mean to interfere with your conversation about what you had for dinner or who did what over the weekend or who's doing who. I saw a lot of staff doing NOTHING and Not for nothing but if you don't like your job...don't take it out on the patients. Remember...YOU picked your profession. Another RUDE person there was DR Poorvu. I have a history of kidney issues, have had a few nephrostomys, and here's this asshat hitting my kidney region pretty damn hard. Literally I was like....wow, omg you don't have to hit that area so hard and He says ignorantly and with attitude, "I didn't hit you that hard" um, yes you did or I wouldn't have said anything. After hours of being treated so poorly and rudely. I was finally admitted and brought up to a room at 4:30 in the morning. I can honestly say that the Er dept at Beverly Hospital SUCKS! Not everyone who works down there is as horrible as that nurse and er dr but it has definitely declined in recent years. Once I was brought up to J5, it was smooth sailing. I had so many kind and wonderful Nurses. They were very professional, wore gloves, and didn't use foul language around patients like they do in the ER. Extremely unprofessional! read more

This review is strictly for the ER department. I've had positive experiences in other parts of the hospital (maternity, inpatient) however the services provided by the staff in this Emergency Room are boderline criminal. I arrived at the hospital via ambulance for a moderate medical emergency. I waited 3 HOURS without seeing a doctor. I can't imagine how long I would have had to wait if I came in via the front door. The only person that came into my room during that time was a nurse to take my vitals and ask if I was suicidal (standard questions I'm assuming, but it was weird nonetheless) and a 21 year old medical student who didn't know her ass from her elbow. After waiting forever without getting any help, I put my clothes on and walked to the nurses station where there were multiple people just hanging around doing nothing to ask if I could have my discharge papers. I witnessed multiple patients in other rooms with serious medical emergencies who were being completely ignored or yelled at by the medical staff. I don't understand why the ER is so bad here when the rest of the hospital is great. TAKE MY ADVICE AND AVOID THIS ER AT ALL COSTS. read more

I have heard of ER horror stories here, but fortunately my experience was not like those. Maybe it was a good night I had an emergency on? I got in and registered relatively quick and seen by a nurse and doctor. Only thing that took a while was getting discharged, which made no sense. Waiting area is very nice and clean. Overall 100 times better than expreiences I had at Salem, where the waiting area is jammed full of degenerates and slime. read more

When I was in extreme pain, in the ER and asked my nurse for something like tylenol, she said, I'd be fine in 10 minutes. This behavior was repeated by her three times. I signed myself out. I had already been in the ER for symptoms of a heart attack for 10 hours. I thought I could go home and get Tylenol and wouldn't have to beg. This was a bad experience. This happened on Wed. June 14th. I arrived around 6:30 p.m. and left around 4:20 a.m on Thur. morning. In the past my experiences at Beverly Hospital were good. read more

Can i give this hospital a worse rating because i would. The nursing staff were extremely rude and were very slow to respond. I could hear them complaining about the patients and swearing in the hallway. The staff seemed more concerned about playing in there phones and gossiping with each other. I waited hours for anyone to respond and had to get up and gonto the nurses desk to get anything. I am unsure if Lahey cares about their patients as i have had better response at the Lahey hospital in Burlington. There needs to be change in the staff culture because it is disgustingly poor. My wife was called by her primary care doctor after seeing the outcome from an X-ray take a few hours earlier. We were told by her doctor to head to the Lahey Heath Beverly location in MA. She was told see would be seen within 30-45 minute but after nearly three hours we still haven't been seen. I can't give a full time frame to when we were finally seen because I had to write this while still waiting for the care that was promised in 30-45 minutes. When asking the front desk for a time frame they were unable to provide a time and said that there were only two people ahead of us but after watching five other patients (that had arrived well after us) get the attention she had yet to receive. The front desk attendants still said there are just a few people ahead of us. I remind you this is after a doctor requested that we head directly to the hospital to be seen and that they had called ahead to admit us as soon as possible. Updated: still haven't been by a doctor at the old lahey hospital. They did take a second round of blood and vitals. I guess the last one ran out since they were taken over three hours ago. read more

I 2yr old son was admitted Oct 17,2017 we spent 3 days on j5 the nurses and doctors were excellent although not always on same page my biggest complaint is the kitchen, omg what a disaster not one day went by that my order wasn't messed up or completly wrong,one day my child's dinner was just not sent and when I asked the server she said ok I'll be right back and never returned, and I must say the food is terrible, I've stayed at this hospital when both my children were born and I used to rave about how the food was so good and the service was excellent, the staff in the kitchen are rude and not helpful what so ever, and the best part is when I was a kid I used to work in the kitchen and I remember it being much much different ran than it is today. Beverly Hospital used to be a great facility, however I see from the ratings that they are going down hill. My services were fine, the problems I ran into was when they over billed me. They refuse to take care of the issue and refuse to contact with our insurance or resubmit correctly. Poor customer service. read more

We brought my mother in law to the Hospital ER because we had heard good things. The ER staff was nice enough and reasonably quick. The admission process was typically long, but once we got her in, they messed so many things up it was scary. The nurses were given her med list 3 times, and they still got it wrong and forgot to give her some of them. The key one was for Atrial fib. She was diagnosed with a UTI and it took them a while to give her the antibiotics. They had her for 24 hours before a doctor saw her and gave orders for treatment of her swelling and an IV for dehydration. Slow, unresponsive, making mistakes with meds, means I am not going back there. While I am not a big fan of Salem Hospital either, at least I felt they were on top of things. Update from Day 2. Things seem to be getting worse with the hospital's attitude. My MIL has slipped into delirium very possibly due to the lack of one of the medicines they should have given her. My wife complained and they said that they were going to administer it this afternoon. As 4:30 PM they had not and she continues to decline. We are worried sick and they can't seemed to be bothered to do anything. read more

Overall Beverly Hospital is nice looking- you can tell a lot of time and money was invested to make it feel like a hotel when you walk in the door. As far as healthcare overall, they're OK. If you are consumer driven and cost focused then DON'T come here. I came to the ER as I was in horrible pain and it was the closest hospital. I had an ultrasound and labs, NOT admitted, refused pain medicine and I was charged over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. Listen people, unless you are in desperate need of an ER then go somewhere else. I will say the ER staff at the front desk was very cordial, the nurse assigned to me was indifferent so overall it was a poor experience. I will actually go to another hospital even if I am in a life threatening situation given how expensive this hospital is!!! read more

I had a knee replacement and I asked too many times for pain meds, so they ignored me for 5 hours!!!!!! When they "looked into it" they came to the conclusion that "they were late giving me my meds" Have you ever gone 5 hours without pain meds one day after a knee replacement? Its not pretty. I brought my youngest daughter (who was 3 & 1/2 at the time) in to be seen b/c I was concerned about pain that she was feeling on her side & ended up being accused of child abuse! NEVER AGAIN I went for my pregnancy and from start to finish it was the worst experience. First ultrasound: I went by myself because my husband was out of town. When I asked the nurse if I could video chat with him during the ultra sound she said no due to HIPAA laws. Then the radiologist came in and asked if two men that sold the ultrasound machine could join to help her navigate the machine....is that not against my own privacy? Labs: I had to get blood work done. There was only one person doing labs. One patient was low functioning came in in a bathing suit with no pants. She got her blood work done before me. She must've soiled herself because when I sat down after her, the seat smelled like feces. The lab technician didn't clean the seat in between patients. I had to clean it myself before sitting down. Labor and delivery: I went into labor after 8pm. The main entrance closed and the only way in the hospital at that time was through the ER. I went into labor during the height of the flu season and when I walked through the ER to enter into the labor and delivery area It looked like something from an apocolyptic movie. So many people with masks coughing and sneezing. I had to stand in that room for 5 minutes until a nurse let me in. Thanksfully, I didn't catch the flu while being in labor. The plan was to give birth at North Shore birth center. But due to my baby pooping in me, I had to go to Beverly Hospital. I was in labor for 42 hours, I used no pain meds during my delivery so I relied on my environment to encourage me to keep going. Not all the nurses were bad. During active labor, I had a nurse name Dawn who was not personable at all. She barely spoke to me during the time. When I asked her, 39 hours into labor and in pain, how long this was going to take (as it was my first baby), she replied with, "stop looking at the clock!". She did not communicate what she was doing and would change the position of the bed making me flop around WHILE in labor. She went to lunch during the labor and did not say anything to me. Thankfully my baby came during that lunch hour and I had a replacement nurse, Rachel, who was encouraging and supportive during my pushes. When I got to hold my baby for the first time Dawn came back and started to control how to do the latch and touched my nipped, again without telling me what she was doing. Aggrevated, I gave her a look and told her not to touch me. When we were getting ready to leave labor and delivery and go to the maternity ward, Dawn was telling another nurse in front of me that "trouble was coming", I asked her if she meant another staff member (trying to have a conversation with her) and she said 'no", which means she meant another patient. It disgusts me that she is supposed to take care of people and would speak like that in front of other patients. I spoke to the L&D manager about Dawn's behavior and she said that they were going to have a better transition from birth center to Beverly hospital. She didn't address the specific contact between Dawn. Lactation Consultant: During the first month, I exclusively breast feed my baby. I noticed that he wasn't increasing in weight, I called the LC of Beverly hospital about it and she said I need to call the pediatrician to discuss about the weight and that she didn't have an appointment until next week to check on my supply to my child Before I could even call the pediatrician, he was calling me stating that he already got called by the LC about this issue. Why would she tell me to call my pediatrician if she was going to do it right after we spoke? If I had to do it all over again, I would go to Salem Hospital. read more

Horrible hospital. Spent 3 1/2 hours in the ER in intense pain. By the time they called my name, I was so angry that I snapped at the nurse who told me I was lucky to have waited only that long. No, I should have gone elsewhere to a hospital that is properly staffed and that bitch should have apologized for the wait. I ended up being admitted and was put in a room with 3 other people which was way too many people in a room and the bathroom door wouldn't lock. It was gross. The only good thing was that the nurses who came in periodically were great and really attentive. read more

I came here twice for my toddler with uncontrollable fever and coughing at midnight. 1 in Dec and 1 in Jan. What a great care we received. They take the time to exam, diagnose, and give treatment plan. I find all the staff to be friendly and caring including receptionist, nurses, and doctors. We were lucky to get the same wonderful doctor - Dr Hogan. ER is not a fast food restaurant, expect to wait. I don't know why people with non emergency conditions come to ER and jacking up the wait. read more

Spent 3 days at the Beverly Hospital in early June following surgery, and I went home wishing I could stay awhile longer! From the nurse who checked me in for surgery to the girl who wheeled me out to my car 3 days later, every person I met during my stay was friendly, courteous, and helpful. I've never spent time in a hospital before, but have always heard horror stories ... I'm so glad this experience went as well as it did, because surgery is scary enough without worrying about what's going to happen next! :) read more

My mom was admitted with the flu and it was a terrible experience. Some of the CA's were very rough with her when washing up given she only weighs 115lbs. To get a nurse or CA to assist with going to bathroom, well you may as well just go in you pants. You can ring but no-one comes in right away. I imagine they have too many patients to care for. None the less it was the first hospital experience and I wouldn't go back. read more

Due to the fact I have been diagnosed with a rare chronic illness I frequently require trips into the ER at Beverly Hospital for the treatment of migraine headaches, dehydration and vomiting. I have been dealing with Beverly Hospital and its affiliated doctors since 1997 with this problem. MAYBE 10% OF THE TIME I AM TREATED WITH THE RESPECT AND DIGNITY THAT I DESERVE, MAYBE! UNFORTUNATELY, the other 90% of the time I am either NOT TREATED AT ALL after waiting hours, called a drug seeker (or other cruel name), used as someone's lab project or admitted for a drug therapy that never ends up working. I have even had one doctor and nurse after waiting from 1-4am tell me that they were the only two working that shift so I would be there another 3-4 hours and should "learn some patience"! Imagine a hospital staffing one doc and one nurse only for an overnight shift, yeah right, lying bitches! EVEN MORE UNFORTUNATE I AM CURRENTLY AN IN PATIENT RIGHT NOW DECEMBER 10, 2012! Being admitted isn't as bad as it may seem because the hospitalists will talk with my doc and at least least listen to his suggestions. The know it all doctors in the ER, they seem to have their own agenda. Some will call my doc and listen to his suggestions but I have been told straight out "they don't take orders from my doc!" Christ, why should they check with him, he has only been dealing with my sickness on a regular basis since 1997! Basically if I had another choice I would be there. This hospital and their inability to cooperate and coordinate my healthcare needs to sustain a viable healthy status is an utter failure. I am now 100% disabled and I blame Beverly Hospital. I've lost my home and my job. Don't trust these guys because when they don't know what they are doing they wing it and when it goes wrong it's all on you! read more

I have been an inpatient at BEVERLY HOSPITAL a number of times. I have been in the E.R as well as with my son and have waited and waited before even being signed in. Ridiculous!! Unless you are brought in by ambulance you better hope and pray your injury or sickness is not serious.You go from one big waiting room to a exam room just to wait even longer.I on a positive note,the doctors when you finally meet them and get treated are definitely the best!! read more

Bf injured his hand at work, and went here last week. All they did was clean it and stitched it up. Now a week later swollen hand still and unable to lift his finger. We went back here. We checked in at around 11:40 pm on Saturday night. Got x rays done and after that it was all musical chairs to 4 different nurses. Asked the same questions and the same answers given. It's now 2:22 am on Sunday and he is still not being seen by a doctor. He's still sitting on a bed at a hallway in the hospital. read more

I recently brought my 3 year old son in to the ER after he cut his chin open on the living room table. The staff was able to get him back to a room quickly. My son was less than cooperative and the PA working with him was very patient and accommodating. He gave us options in terms of sutures & sedation and was very quick & efficient. We were in and out in maybe an hour - 1.5 hours tops. I will continue to bring my children to this emergency room, as well as myself if need be, as they have the best bedside manor and work efficiently, to the best of their ability. read more

Just do not go to the ER. After two hours of waiting I was put in a room by a nurse or nurse assistant who never introduced herself, she told to change my clothes and disappeared! Although I was in pain but I decided to leave after 20 minutes cuz maybe she'll come back 20 more minutes later to take a silly history and then I wait for another 1-2 hours to see a doctor who may order an xray that will take 2-3 hours!! It's like they tell people go suffer at home, at least you feel more settled and have family near you instead of indifferent faces. P.S. I went to the bathroom in the waiting area and there was no water (the bathroom on the right) so I entered the second one just to wash my hands!! read more

They saved my mother's life. She is an old woman who had a massive pulmonary embolism with clots in both lungs and both legs. The doctors got in touch with me immediately (out of state), presented situation and made a recommendation for TPA right away. It worked. Nursing staff fantastic. We are forever grateful that this hospital has dedicated and knowledgeable staff who clearly know what they're doing. read more

I was born in this hospital and all of my children were too. I have a significant medical history and have had much more surgical experience than the average person. Have I had bad experiences here? Of course, nobody is always thrilled when they are sick, in pain or worried about a loved one. I have also had many wonderful experiences at Beverly Hospital. My 5 year old daughter suffers many allergies and struggles with asthma. She has been admitted twice for breathing issues in her short life and I could not have asked for better care. Today my precious girl was having a lot of trouble breathing and was not responding to her regular treatments so off we went to the ER. From the time I walked in until the time she was seen by the doctor was under 15 minutes and treatment began immediately. Yes, sometimes people do wait for a long time but that probably means there are people with more serious issues that are being dealt with first and that is the way it should be. If you are truly, medically too sick to wait, you won't be made to wait. I know waiting sucks, it bothers me as much as the next person but as a mother of three children who have real medical problems, I understand the need to prioritize and try to remember that when I am the one waiting. read more
