Happy I came across this office after recently moving to the San Francisco area. All the staff there are extremely accommodating and make sure that your comfort and knowledge of exactly what is going on with your teeth are at the forefront of your experience. Chisako, who manages the front desk, makes you feel welcome, engages with you in conversation, and works with you to find the times/dates that work best with your schedule. I have never had a miscommunication with them regarding my appointments and they are always on top of reminder calls/emails or texts. Chisako makes the administrative end of a dental visit a breeze. Dr. Fung is a patient and personable dentist who will make sure that any and every concern is addressed while providing you with the education that allows you to make informed decisions on your treatment. They make sure you know exactly what is going to happen and show you on x-rays, scans, etc. where the cavity is or why they recommend a specific treatment. I recently got a filling done by Dr. Fung and every step of the process was clean, professional, and painless. This review is overdue since I moved out of the Bay Area a few months ago, but I still wanted to make sure to share. I am so appreciative to Dr. Presley-Nelson's office. I've had some tough dental experiences in the past, so was very anxious about dentist visits. They put me at ease right away through gentle treatments, being educational, and creating a long-term dental treatment plan for me. Also, during cleanings and treatments, they gave me standup comedy to listen to with a headset - it's harder to be anxious when you are giggling. The entire staff is wonderful and clearly operates as a team. They really care about their patients. When my temporary crown came off, Dr. Fung was so kind to meet me at the office while it was closed for a holiday weekend to re-adhere it. I've moved out of state, but I wish I could still be a patient at this office! read more

I'm a dental assistant here but also a patient. The dentists (dr Presley-Nelson and dr Fung) and the hygienist (Kathleen) really care about their patients. I've only worked here since October but I've witnessed how much extra care and effort they give in informing the patients of the dental care/procedure that's about to be done to them and also how thorough they do all procedures. Also chisako (the office manager) is patient, respectful, well-mannered and works hard. The other two dental assistants I work with too always go above and beyond and don't cut corners. Doctor Beverly Presley-Nelson is a very sweet lady. I've had the chance to shadow and work chairside with her two summers ago. She taught me a lot about dentistry and also showed me many tips and tricks too! One of my favorites is when she gives anesthesia. As she is giving it, she gets her dental assistant to pinch the patients ear and also apply pressure to the area between the patient's thumb and index finger. For some reason, this completely removes all the pain from the shot! She also offers a wide variety of CDs that you can listen to as she does her procedure. This dental office is probably the most friendly office I have ever encountered. The staff members are all so friendly and they tend to their patients very well. The staff members joke around and have fun, but when it is time to operate on a patient, they become serious and get their job done in a timely fashion. Kathleen and Chisako are also very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a very friendly dental office to get your teeth checked out, I highly recommend Beverly! She's a very sweet and gentle lady who I can never get tired talking to. She has inspired me to continue on my path of becoming a dentist myself! read more

BEWARE -- ^^ SCANDALOUS & UNSANITARY ^^ [ EMERGENCY -- HIGH ALERT ] When I first arrived at Beverly's " Dental Cave, " ---1749 Taraval Street, in San Francisco, I noticed how exceptionally small / tiny the so-called dentistry was. I entered the "super-small" waiting area, and I was greeted by Beverly Nelson's manager, who dressed like a field-farmer / vegetable picker, with a large bandana around her head. The small manager receptionist desk, and the patient sitting accommodations, occupied the same super-small area. The uncomfortable L-shaped, wooden-bench, that only seats four people, causes everyone's knees to touch each other, and you have to pull your legs inward, very close, so someone can walk by-- and allow the small-narrow front door to open. Also, there are nasty / filthy /seedy old-café, front window curtains. I am now highly suspicious of the high-bacteria in the air, and lack of sanitation of the dentistry instruments, that are used in the patients mouth. Including injection-needles. ****** There is absolutely "NO" ------- Disability Wheelchair, Assistant Walker, etc., accessibilities in this so-called dentist facility. According to California State Law, this so-called dental office is not in compliance. OKAY! now I am entering the "Super-Narrow" dentist chair area, that lacks proper space between patient chairs --------- and does not have adequate partition dividers, to prevent "flying food particles, filling shavings, bacteria etc.," from creating a "full blown cross-contamination," breeding area. Oh! What an enviormental health tragedy! I also observed, that the X-ray operator, did not protect himself from the ongoing exposures, and did not wear a "radiation build-up" badge monitor. ^^^ NOW! -------- The experience, that I have encountered, from Beverly Presley-Nelson. 1) She deceived and lied to me, when she stated to me, that she was knowledgeable in "Partial" impressions & Repair" procedures. 2) I had an appointment ----- I went in and she attempted to make an impression, she realized that she did not no how, and she began referring to this procedure, as a "STUDY." She placed excessive "wax" on my chin, outer cheeks---and smeared it all over my teeth and inner cheeks. I was highly discussed. I told her I was here for a partial impression, not a "STUDY." She acknowledged to me, that they are the same. Oh! What a profound liar she is! I was in the dentist chair, over an hour. 3) What Beverly Presley-Nelson was doing ------------ was using me as a "Practice Dummy Patient," ---- without my "signed permission." She also stated, that she made the "STUDY" wrong, and that it was not satisfactory, to send it to a licensed "Dental Laboratory." (It was done totally wrong --- including the wrong material) 4) What she had done was totally unethical and illegal. She did this to acquire an illegal "Study Model," for herself---only, which also FAILED to do. Her plan was to make a excellent impression partial, so she WOULD NOT have to send the impression to the "DENTISTRY LABORTORY." She was trying to bypass the Dental Laboratory, so she could "Pocket the Money, for herself. 5) Beverly, does not have a California State License as a Dentistry Laboratory practitioner, for new or reproduction partials, clasps, etc., etc. 6) After this major deceptive action against me ------- Beverly had the nerve, to plan a second SCANDALOUS act ---- to sent me a fraudulent "financial bill," for an unauthorized, illegal "PRACTICE STUDY," that was not a impression. I came to her so-called dental office, to have a Impression made --- Only! 7) Beverly's "Advertised" Dental Procedure Services, are 45% FRAUDULENT, to attempt to lure you into, her so-called dental office. Beverly is 100% INEPT. Beverly has also refused, to give me my "Paid-in-Full X-rays." She is holding my "personal X-rays," as hostage/ransom, and will only release them to me, if I give her money for an illegal and unauthorized, " PRACTICE S T U D Y. This review is several years late. I'm not much of a Yelp person - in fact this is my first review ever since signing up in 2012, but Dr. Beverly Presley-Nelson and her staff, particularly Kathleen, deserve the business and recognition! My first appointment at Dr. Presley's practice was a few years ago and like this review, was long overdue. Prior to that, I had held off going to the dentist for years after a horrible experience with another dentist elsewhere in the City. I knew that I had to see a dentist, but after what I had experienced the last time, to say I was dragging my feet was an understatement. Upon arriving at my first appointment, I filled out some paperwork including a rating of my fear of dental work. I don't remember what I put - likely somewhere in the middle even though I was actually quite a bit more scared, but Dr. Presley and her staff did more than enough to put my worries at ease. They explained everything they were planning to do, and told me what to expect going into things. The hygienist, Kathleen, is a master! I prompted myself to write this because during a recent appointment I was literally fighting to stay awake during my cleaning. To go from fearing the dentist to being comfortable enough to doze off in the chair is frankly, something that I didn't think was possible. Likewise, Dr. Presley is a joy to visit. She makes going in for dental work easy and keeps the environment lighthearted and fun, while doing quality work and explaining the details so that a layman like me can understand. One of the things that struck me as unique and impressive was her use of comedy during dental procedures. When I need more than a cleaning, they're ready with audio players preloaded with standup acts and headphones for you to listen to while you're being worked on. It makes a huge difference, and combined with her experience and gentle touch, I can say that I have zero anxiety about going to the dentist anymore. On top of all of this, which is already so impressive in my book, they make coming into the office feel like visiting family. It is genuinely a positive experience. They know their patients well and take the opportunity to catch up with everyone when they visit. There are dozens of pictures on the walls with happy patients and their families and they even have a newsletter that is actually worth reading. Who sends family pictures to their dentist?! Who actually reads newsletters about dentistry?! Happy, grateful patients who feel like family, that's who! Great work and experience every time. 10/10 recommend. read more

Let's face it, having someone else's hands in your mouth is not a walk in the park, but at this office, it's a lot like comedy in the park! I don't need much done with my teeth, mostly my cleanings by Kathleen (goddess of pick and polish), and my exams by 'Doc' aka Beverly. Been coming to them since 1989 because they always do such good work. Kathleen is gentle, thorough, and laughs easily. Dr. Beverly is an educator and a humorist at heart. Need I say more? Dr. Presley-Nelson's practice has a very welcoming environment. Everyone is very sweet and meticulous. I have seen Dr. Presley-Nelson, Dr. Fung, and Kathleen (the hygienist) for the past 5 years now. I never knew the correct way to brush AND floss effectively, but upon siting in their chair, I was shown how to improve on my oral health! The clinicians here really educate you to improve your overall health, as well as answering all the questions and concerns in mind. They give you options and they do not twist your arms and be aggressive about doing this or get this done unless it is really urgent. I love how the Dr's prioritize what needs to be done to save my tooth as well as keeping my finances in mind! When anesthesia is given, the assistants here distracted me by applying acupressure to my hand and ears. During fillings or long procedures, I was given comedy tapes to listen to and it was nice! It has been tough finding a good doctor, but I'm glad i encountered this office! read more

BPN put headphones over my ears to block out the negative comments I didn't need to hear ("5 and bleeding"). Then during any injections she had her helper pinch my ears to distract me. Very good. read more

Our family has been going to Dr. Presley Nelson Dental office for many years and find her (and Dr. Fung) extremely good, proficient, and professional and their staff very friendly, helpful, efficient and accommodating. We had been to many dentists prior to Dr. Presley Nelson (some moved, some retired, some passed away) and we have been so fortunate to find this dental office! We are extremely pleased with both the care and quality work we have received (and at very reasonable prices)! I would highly recommend Dr. Presley Nelson to all ages (our children started going to this office by the time they were 8)--she's highly competent and patient with all our questions and concerns. Doctor Presley-Nelson is serious about comfortable dentistry. My daughter has moved to Louisiana, but waits for her visit to San Francisco to get her teeth worked on. Doc keeps a library of audiotapes, music, classic radio shows, and audiobooks to keep you distracted on headphones while she drills on you. read more

Very nice office staff and dentist, but some problems with both treatment and attitude.

OMG!! I came in for a swollen gum, and thought that I was just going in get an x-ray taken of the area. I was called because Dr. Presley -Nelson had a cancellation. I have been going to a downtown dentist for the last 5 1/2 years, who was just convenient because of where I worked. I got let go from my job, and had no dentist to go to. I went to the office, filled out the forms, and was seen instantly!! No wait at all like downtown. An X-ray was taken of the area, and she told me that I needed the area to be cleaned out. She gave me the option of doing it today, or rescheduling. I am a very nervous, anxious and apprehensive patient, but since I was there,-----what the hell. I had ALWAYS HAD NITROUS, AND VALIUM before any dental treatment..... She does not have any of this, BUT..........Her injection, after the topical was PAINLESS!!!!!! Her assistant and her combined do a great job of numbing the area with a "Pinch system' She does the injection, and the assistant does random pinching(up and down) of your earlobe, while she holds the space between your thumb and forefinger as well. Dr. Beverly also starts to sing the star spangle banner at the same time, hitting the high notes which ALSO takes your mind off of the injection!! I can not tell all you phobics out there to GO TO HER!!!! GO!! GO!GO!!! P.S. Her hygienist, Kathleen takes the most easiest, gentlest full mouth set of x-rays I have ever had!!!! read more

I have been seeing Dr Beverly Presley-Nelson and Kathleen, her dental hygienist, since around 1988 when I lived in SF. Since I moved away to the South Bay 25 years ago, I have continued my 2-3 times per year trek to see her and her excellent staff. Now my adult daughter sees her when home from college. She is friendly, thorough, honest, reliable and cares about the comfort and the education of her patients. And laughing through procedures while listening to comedy routines on headphones is the best. I cannot imagine going anywhere else! read more

Besides providing high quality dental care, she is very patient and thorough and takes a lot of time to explain dental issues and treatment options in great detail. Dr. Fung is ... the ... woman. I recently moved to San Francisco and haven't needed to visit a dentist besides normal yearly check ups. This time, it was a bit of an emergency. I chipped my tooth and I was able to make an appointment two days later. Tooth fixed, no problem, no pain. Highly recommend!!!! read more
