It's not everyday you hear "take off your mask." I assume most people like myself associate dental appointments as unpleasant. My experience at Lakeside dental was surprisingly stellar despite the discomfort of mouth contortions made for X-rays and the cleaning process. Initially I attempted to get appointments at other dentist offices. The earliest I could get for a new patient was 2 months out. I called Lakeside and they actually had openings but conflicted with my schedule. I pretty much gave up at that point. So what changed? *Unexpectedly Ashley (Staff) was proactive. She called me back the very next day without a prompt and let me know of an opening that worked with my schedule. She also confirmed that my insurance was covered there. So nice! *during my visit the entire team from the front desk to the dentist were experienced, warm and professional *x-Ray tech was kind and thoughtful. She made the really uncomfortable act of biting down on inconveniently shaped pieces more tolerable. *Dr. Giang the dentist, was super informative while interjecting some humor. He was really good about checking in if I was ok and answering questions. *the business took all precautionary measures to protect against Covid. *room with a view! everything about this place is great EXCEPT THE RECEPTIONISTS. wow. theyre just something else. Dr. Lowe(s) are all great and very caring and sweet people. I saw Dr. Cecilia Lowe because she was recommended by a friend. She's nice and a competent dentist. However, after comparing with other dentists, one of which is a very good friend of mine, I have to say it seems that Dr. Lowe is doing a little more than she needs to, just to bill more. I have never had a dentist perform a manual exam of the neck and floor of the mouth to look for tumors. The first time she did it, I thought maybe it's the new standard of practice. But once a year? I thought that was excessive for a man in his 30's and no history/ risk factors of oral cancer. The X-rays are too frequent. She said a molar needs a filling, and must be done in the next 6 months. Since then I moved. Two other dentists said it does not need a filling; it has now been 6 years and I have no symptoms. My molar apparently still does not need a filling. read more

I called and informed them that my daughter would be a self pay, and the front staff that I talked to quoted me a price that included xrays. I told her that we could have the last set of xrays sent over from the last dentist. She refused this and said it's mandatory to have xrays taken at their clinic. When I asked why, she said she said it's office policy and when I attempted to ask how many xrays they would be taking she cut me off and told me I should call a different clinic. I said I'm not calling a different clinic right now, I'm speaking with you right now and I have questions. I asked her again how many xrays they insist on taking for new patients and she said 16. Appalled, I hung up. If they make their money on forcing you to take unecessary xrays it's not the place for us. This place is classist, unflexible, and uncaring. read more

Excellent staff! Sharon the office manager is wonderful and very knowledgeable ! I was lucky to have Dr. Matthew Giang for my dentist too! He is up to date on new technology!all the staff and dr. Giang make it a point to acknowledge you where you do not feel like you are bothering them and you never feel rushed! I have been going to Lakeside Dental for well over a decade (maybe two?) because I feel very SAFE in Dr. Lowes care. She is very kind and gentle, and I love how she explains everything she is doing and she always walks me through the plan and gives me options based on my time and money and concerns. I have never had a medical professional be so thorough in explaining to me and giving me options, it helps me to feel in control in a delicate situation. I got a crown from them over a decade ago and I have had no pain or any issues with it, so thats a relief. Other than that, ive gotten basic cleaning and cavities filled:) I also feel that this office is very fair in their pricing as I do not have dental insurance and this is important to me as well. I seriously hate going to the dentist. Even getting a cleaning makes me break out into a sweat. My last dental experience, at some high-tech SOMA dentist, left MUCH to be desired. It put me off seeing the dentist for almost 2 years. So, I needed to find a new dentist. Called a few days later and asked if I could come in, so I did. Kind of wish they gave me an advanced notice, luckily I was free when they called. Saw Dr. Lowe, everything was quick and fast. The most important thing to have with any medical practitioner is trust. I've been to many dentists due to terrible traveling hygiene habits, yeah when you are on vacation... baddies in your mouth are pulling overtime! I'm no stranger to dentists. Everyone before Dr Tim Ng, I had this slight inclination that they had carved a miniature Mount Rushmore in my mouth and billed me for four crowns. It's back to that concept of trust. I mind if some quack is billing me extra, but what really gets me is if the same bozo fucks up my teeth. This causes me extra expenses and pain in the future. How many pimps you know with dentures? Zero. See enough shitty dentists and my street cred will go straight to zero. Here's a run down of their operations: 3 Dentists: Cecilia Lowe Arthur Lowe Tim Ng (brother, I believe, to Cecilia) Usually 2 receptionists, one is in charge of billing and a few dental assistants (usually as many as there are doctors on staff). Other pluses: a. For the little kids, they have a TV screen that they can play Finding Nemo. b. Said TV screen can be coupled with a little camera they have to take before and after pictures of bad teeth. c. Parking d. I've never had to pay anything out of pocket. I've had major work done, but this might be because they find creative ways to bill you for things. read more

This place is AWESOME, and I would know because I've been coming here for about 4 years now. Of my 23 years of life, I have never been to a more caring, thorough, and skilled Dentist. I removed 4 teeth with Dr. Lowe. The entire procedure went smoothly and she was there the entire time -- coaching me, comforting me, and making me feel like I was being properly cared for. I left the office with no pain. Once the numbing wore off, I ate some "jook" and watched movies in bed. Admittedly, I had to take a Tylenol at night but the days after that were cake. I was already eating solid food on the second day! By the third day, I was completely healed. THAT is how great and skilled Dr. Lowe is. Dr. Lowe will probably be my dentist for life. I can't say enough good things about this new dental practice or my dentist, Dr. Cecelia Lowe. Dr. Cecelia has taken care of my teeth for almost 10 years and my smile is brighter because of her. Dr. Cecelia is a graduate of UCSF and was asked to join a UCSF faculty member in practice after graduation. She is now starting her own practice along with fellow dentists, her husband and brother, Dr. Arthur Lowe and Dr. Tim Ng. UCSF is one of the top if not #1 dentistry school in the country and both Cecelia and Arthur are UCSF graduates. In fact they met while students there. You won't find a better dentist, she is friendly but firm i.e. "you need to brush......" and her novacaine shots are painless. Most importantly, their office at the corner of Ocean near 19th Avenue has free parking and is close to Stonestown mall (read combine errends). They offer lots of holiday & new patient specials. 7/20/07 Addendum: Can I just say I love Yelp. I just got a wisdom tooth extracted and although half my face is numb, my heart is warm and fuzzy from the utter love and kindness that I just experienced here. Everyone here was so helpful and accommodating. I had a emergency toothache from a wisdom tooth that decided to raise hell in the back of my mouth and thought I was going to die. I did not have a dentist set up here in San Francisco so I panicked a bit. I saw how highly rated Lakeside was here on Yelp and saw that even they accepted my horrible Tonik coverage plan so I gave them a call at 9AM. The nice receptionist told me to come in at 11 and 1 hour and $100 later, the little ingrate of a tooth was presented to me in a little plastic keepsake box. Dr. Lowe and the dental hygienist were so gentle and reassuring and responded to my every twitch of pain with an extra dose of anesthetic and a little arm squeeze. This is THE best dentist I have ever been to. Ever...and I have been getting my teeth cleaned since I was a baby. Here is why: + The staff are friendly. They REMEMBER your name even if you haven't been in for 6 months. They are pleasant and kind and don't make you feel like a jerk if you are late or miss an appt. + The dentists are extremely patient, caring and GENTLE. They actually care about their patients (whoa!) and have a superb bedside manner. They don't guilt trip you about not coming in often enough or if you admit to not flossing every day. + I had an emergency, one of my temporary crowns fell off and they opened the office an entire hour early to see me. I was freaked out and in a lot of pain and they took superb care of me. + The office is clean and modern. They have the latest "stuff" and that made me feel really good. Overall, I felt well taken care of. I have been a patient of theirs for over a year and I wouldn't go anywhere else, even if I left SF... I'd make the drive. This place is great! I have been a patient of Dr. Lowe's for over two years. I wanted to find a neighborhood dentist rather than travel to downtown SF. My previous dentist was a Yelp referral. He was good, but never had any available appointments and I felt like a back up patient. Anyway, I found Lakeside Dental Care on Yelp and gave them a shot. The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is convenient and (most importantly) free! You just need to wait patiently for a parking spot in the back as this office is located inside a medical building. Dr. Lowe and his dental staff are very supportive and skilled. I thought I've reviewed this before but I guess not.. Great customer service, I almost don't want to say so in case this office gets too popular for me to make my appointments! Teeth cleaning is an interesting experience, they use.. sound waves(?) I believe. I will have to ask what the proper term is. In the beginning, it was great because it feels less uncomfortable than traditional methods of cleaning but I am not a big fan of the sound, I realized. It's okay though! They're excellent medical providers here. Dr. Arthur Lowe is the dentist I meet with for cleanings. Him and his staff are always helpful, and takes the time to listen to any concerns one may have. Even if you don't voice any concern, they'll ask you at the end of the appointment if you have any questions. Very caring. I had a tooth situation caused from orthodontics last year and they were able to see me the same day I called, and fixed the problem quickly. Dr. T. Ng is the best dentist I've ever seen! Few weeks ago I had an appointment at 4 pm and the process will take an hr and a half and I was few mins late. And I'm sure I was his last patient of the day. Since I was late and the last patient there's a chance my process will be rushed but I was wrong, Dr. Ng took his time and explain every process to me and frequently checks if I was ok. And will always let me know ahead of time when I may feel pain or sensitivity in certain areas. He's also not the type of dentist who just constantly tell you to floss and simply say if you don't you'll get cavities. But instead he goes into detail of how the cavity is formed which gets you to understand why all dentist stress the importance of flossing. Whenever I don't understand something Dr. Ng would use another example to help me better understand it and this is when I can really see how passionate he is in dentistry. After years of sticking with Dr. Jang and associates, I've decided to move on because some of Dr Jang's associates just don't do a good job. The good - Very friendly staff and they have a fancy camera that they stick into your mouth to show you how badly(or good), you've been treating your mouth. They will show you those stains, before and after. Open on Saturdays. The bad - Very packed calendar, took me a month to get a teeth cleaning from my first time calling. Also another month to get my cavities filled. Everyone's schedule is different though, for me with a standard 9-5 job, you will have to be patient on when you can grab an appointment. The verdict - Great dentistry. Dr. Ng knows his stuff and I would definitely come back as my regular dental care spot. My teeth/gums felt clean afterward so I can't complain. And is it really a bad thing that their calendar is full? It just means they're that darn popular! read more

Dr. Cecilia Lowe is amazing. I used to go to Dr. Salimi on Geary and the cleaning done there wasn't anything amazing. Just brushing, flossing, polishing, and then some vitamins. Lakeside Dental gives you the works. They go through each tooth and clean it using a scalar. They then floss your teeth and polish it. When all the cleaning is done they measure your gums so that they can compare it to the next time you walk in for an appointment. Dr. Cecilia was very nice and accommodating. Though I was a little iffy about getting x-rays since I got them on my last dental trip, she was willing to wait until my next visit. I got the x-rays anyway. Little known fact from her: The yearly X-ray, with 6 shots of the jaw, expose you to as much radiation as a trip to Seattle, Washington would. After all is done she takes pictures of your teeth to show you on the monitor. Though it was a little disturbing to zoom into my mouth, it was very helpful in understanding what she was looking at and concerned about for my health and safety. Overall, I highly recommend Lakeside Dental. Dr. Lowe was extremely helpful, and they do a great job communicating with their patients and the cleaning. read more

I had my wisdom tooth pulled on Saturday morning......and saturday evening I was up and about.. I felt great!! Of course I was told to rest, so I took it easy, but I felt great. The dentist did an amazing job on the extraction. He was so gentle and I didn't even feel the shots he gave me! He made good use of that gel stuff they put to pre-numb your gums. After the numbness went away, I wasn't even in pain..... It felt more like when you have a small bruise ..my gums were just tender, but it was nothing, considering I now had a hole in my mouth and one tooth less. I highly recommend this place to anyone! Everyone there is so helpful and super nice. My dentist made sure to explain the whole process before starting the procedure and they were really good about explain everything I had to do to have a speedy recovery afterwards. Not only is everyone there very nice, but their prices are very competitive and in my opinion pretty inexpensive compared to other dentist in my area. thank you LAKESIDE DENTAL HINT (for anyone getting their wisdom teeth pulled) First of all... go here to get it done ;) .... Second, The worse part is a few hours after the numbness goes away. Try to sleep during those 2-3 hours!! After you wake up, and get rid of the gauze in your mouth, eat some ice cream and you'll feel great. (Having the gauze in my mouth was the worst part. It tasted like blood (gross) and it was touching my gums which was making it hurt a little bit. But once I took it out, I was fine! I'm not one of those people who dreads going to the dentist. I just hadn't been in like, five years. I am also a bad flosser, and, not gonna lie, I've been known to skip bedtime brushing, especially when vodka tonics are involved. Brushing your teeth can seem like such a daunting task when your BAC is raging at an all-time high. When I finally sucked it up and went to get a painful wisdom tooth checked out, I was expecting to hear something along the lines of "Floss more. Brush more. Be smarter when it comes to making decisions concerning dental hygiene, and life." But to my delightful surprise, Dr. Arthur Lowe told me no oral surgery was needed, and that even with my neglect and abuse, my teeth were gonna come out okay (23 years, ZERO cavities. Thanks, Dad!) He gave me a thorough cleaning, showed me my x-rays, and gaveme a new toothbrush and a syringe to help keep my wisdom tooth clean as it comes up (the tooth is coming straight in, so he recommended no surgery). I found Dr. Lowe and his staff to be extremely thorough, attentive, accomodating, and efficient. For Christ's sake, as his assistant was taking my x-rays, she actually RAN back and forth so that I wouldn't have to keep the bites in my mouth so long. Their office is conveniently located (I took the bus and it was literally a two-minute walk) and offers parking. My insurance paid for my cleaning, and I was expecting to pay half of my extraction, which would've been about $70, so from what I hear, their pricing is pretty fair/average. read more

I had Tim Ng by the way . 6-28-07 Went back today for in office whitening . I'm getting married tommorow and my fiance' insisted I do the whitening so our pictures look good . It took 2 hrs. Was realitively painless and cost $300 . I ate right after , no problems . It is uncomfortable for a while but my teeth are whiter than before . The staff did everything possible to make me feel relaxed and comfortable , but lets be honest , no matter what they do , metal objects, other peoples fingers and suction tubes in your mouth does not feel good ! But they did the best as is humanly possible . If you need whiter teeth you will be treated good and for a reasonable price . read more

The left half of my mouth is numb as I write this review. I came here since they had great Yelp reviews and also they accept my sucky Tonik Anthem Blue Cross insurance. The front desk staff is really pleasant. The waiting room is very tranquil with orchids and plenty of mags to help you pass the time. Dr. Lowe (the wife) and her assistant are very nice and put me at ease right away. I came in for a general cleaning, but was recommended for a deep cleaning since I had buildup. No problem, that's what I figured anyway. I went back today to do 1/2 of my mouth and although I was nervous, the most uncomfortable part were the injections. Otherwise, Dr. Lowe got all the junk off my grill and it was all done in about 20min or so. I was scheduled for 845a and was out by 940a. I paid out-of-pocket for the deep cleaning since my insurance didn't cover it. I highly recommend Dr. Lowe as she's very nice, pleasant, and considerate. She's very attentive to her patients and says "sorry" when she hurts me (from measuring my gum pockets... OUCH), which I thought was sweet of her. Her schedule is really packed (I waited over a month as a new patient to get in) and now my 2nd deep cleaning won't happen until July, probably (I can only do mornings). I have to say that I'm not TOO disappointed to wait a month though... read more
