From the moment you walk in, Marilyn at the front desk is incredibly friendly and welcoming. She explains everything clearly, is always helpful with any questions I have, and has been patient and flexible with my limited availability and occasional rescheduling. Cindy has been my dental hygienist for nearly all of my visits, and she is wonderful. She is gentle, reassuring, and very thorough in explaining the condition of my teeth and gums. The best dentist I have ever been to! I have been going to SF Dental since I moved to the city 3 years ago and look forward to every visit. It almost made me want cavities so I could go more! After 18 months of not seeing the dentist due to COVID, I decided to try a new dentist in SF Dental. BIG MISTAKE. Dr. Kim was dismissive of my questions regarding the difference between a crown and a filling, and why I would need a crown. I have never gotten a crown so I wanted to get educated. I would think most people do before going through an unpleasant procedure that costs money. A crown costs 4-6X than a filling. Then, when I asked her to point out the cavity on the x-ray, she responded, "Can't you see that obvious big hole?" My bad. I guess if you go to her dental practice, you need to be a trained x-ray technician and not ask too many questions about your dental health before they go to work on your teeth. She then abruptly got up and walked away. Rude. My dental hygienist wasn't encouraging and said, "You waited too long to get your teeth cleaned." Well gee thanks. It's a pandemic and people weren't vaccinated until 1Q2021. As a religious flosser and brusher, I've never had any hygienist say I had poor dental health, which is why it was so obvious they were using the hygienist to push for more work done. Bad business practice when people finally realize what's up. When I went to get my filling done, they put a less experienced dentist to do the work named Dr Caitlin Desmet, instead of Dr. Kim. It felt like a bait and switch. During the procedure, Dr Desmet treated the dental assistant in a very impatient and passive aggressive manner, like she was beneath her. You can tell a person's true character by the way they treat their colleagues and assistants. It is a shame good manners is lacking at SF Dental. You would think dentists would be the most patient and most thoughtful to new patients who are referrals of existing clientele. Instead of shaming a new patient, you'd think they'd be encouraging. I'm definitely not going to return. Dr Desmet, please try and treat everyone with more respect, especially if you just joined SF Dental in October 2020 and recently graduated from dental school. Dr Kim, we know business was tough in 2020 and it's logical to want to try and win back as much business as possible as the pandemic fades. However, being unwilling to put a patient at ease before doing crowns, root canals, and other major work is disappointing and not good business. It takes two sides to build trust. And if you can't be bothered to answer questions and explain things to new and existing patients, you will lose patient trust and ultimately business Please have more empathy for future new patients who have not seen the dentist during the pandemic. Patients are looking for guidance, encouragement, support, and trust. Which is exactly the opposite of what I experienced at SF Dental. read more

I've had horrible experiences (lots of judgement and rude comments) with past dentists which has hindered me from making dentist appointments for the past 5 years. Dr. Lam is the best! She is so considerate, transparent, and kind. I had a lot of work to be done, and I was so so so scared :( Dr. Lam was able to clearly explain what needed to be done and the possible outcomes in each case. During the procedure, Dr. Lam explained each step which helped calm me down. I appreciated how she was able to tell I was nervous and checked in once in a while to see how I was doing. COVID-19 Update: - love their safety precautions: negative COVID test results are required to make an appointment - my treatment room had a Blueair air purifier and there are air purifiers throughout the office - outside waiting until your appointment - staff wears face masks/face shields - restroom has been converted to virtually all no-touch appliances - love seeing offices like this that are taking steps to ensure the safety of their staff and their patrons!!
