I don't have the most complex taxes in the world but I had a few issues that I felt like I needed a tax adviser. I got Kim's name from my financial planner who helped deal w/ some finance issues after my dad passed. Anyway, he didn't know Kim but someone on his team suggested Kim. Scheduling was fine, I was able to get in relatively quickly. When I introduced myself, I said I got her name from my financial adviser. She asked me who he was, and when I said his name, she went on about how well she knows him, and it's great to work with one of his clients. I should've known she was a shyster then. I didn't say anything and just nodded my head, it was during work hours and I just wanted our mtg to be as efficient as possible. Anyway, she looks over my statements, and looks up at me and says "well haven't you done well for yourself". Um, yeh, my dad died and left me some money. Aren't I lucky? I was pretty offended, it's like she was sizing up my financial situation in some sort of creepy, greedy way. After reviewing my paperwork, she told me it'd be $1200 to file. I was shocked, but it was late in the season and I needed to get my taxes filed. She said "I'm not the cheapest, but I'm very good", actually, she should've said, "I'm a total rip-off but at least I fill out the correct papers and submit them on time." I didn't learn anything new, I didn't save any extra money, I simply had the correct forms filled out and submitted on time. From looking at the other reviews, it's pretty clear that $1200 is her base fee, which is INSANE. I highly encourage anyone to look around even a little bit, and you'll easily find other CPA's that will give you great advice for a quarter of the price. Oh, if you file taxes w/ Kim, you get a login to a website where you can upload additional forms. And you'll get to download your taxes at a later date. Wow, so worth it. read more

I agree with Marina H. I had the same experience. Kim seemed very personable when I first met her and it seemed like I would be taken care of. She listed her many years of experience and the fact that all of the returns are checked by two different people. When I mentioned that the $1200 was high, she said that the cost was essentially a retainer for her services for the entire year (e.g. tax planning, answering questions, etc). The same thing that happened to Marina happened to me. While she's responsive through email and phone before she has your money, you have to hunt her down after you fork over the funds. It became so bad that I put in a weekly calendar reminder to either call or email Kim. Even after I filed my taxes, I would try to contact her with questions and she never got back to me. I told myself that I lost a lot of money and need to move on. Then I had to revisit this frustrating exchange with Kim when it came to getting my old tax return for a mortgage application. She was so bad about returning my emails and calls that I started numbering my emails in the subject line. Since the mortgage process is so sensitive to timing, i made it a point to email and call every single day. Finally, I heard back from her and she said that her uncle, sister-in-law and nephew died, and she had a hard time dealing with it. I'm sorry to be callous, but she is running a business. We are not friends and frankly if that was the case, one would think that if this were a professional business, she would make arrangements to have someone answer emails and phone calls to tell clients that she would not be available for personal reasons. I've been down this road of non-response from her before, so I was reluctant to believe any of it. To summarize, if you are looking to do an individual tax return, look somewhere else. You don't get what you pay for with her. read more

While Kim is very friendly and her staff is responsive, I didn't feel like I got what I paid for. For starters, I qualified for free federal tax returns based on my income this past year, but at neither meetings with Kim, was I informed of that. I also was frustrated at how it took about two weeks to get copies of my tax returns when they were finally finished. Despite providing commuter and rental property information, which I knew I had to fill out for another state, my return did not reflect either. It did not account for all the other life changes I had this past year (including temporary unemployment, moving expenses, interview expenses, etc.). She said it wouldn't have helped me nor would I have qualified for any exemptions, but I remain skeptical. Kim answers your questions and took the time to make some 401k and Roth suggestions, and she quickly reviewed my returns with me, but I felt her services are VERY expensive. If you have done your taxes before, like I have, I would suggest saving your money and doing it yourself unless you have a HUGE life change. Coming here wasn't worth it, IMO. read more

I usually do my taxes myself but I had a bunch of questions about incentive stock options and whether I paid taxes on them correctly in the past that I didn't feel comfortable just using tax software for. I got in touch with Kim a little bit late in the tax season but she fit me in her schedule. She had people on her team answer my questions and prepared my return in a manner with which I felt comfortable. She also sat down with me for about half an hour to recommend stuff I should do to save on my taxes in the future. Even though I'm sure she was extremely busy, she was very responsive via email and phone. Can't recommend her enough to anyone looking for tax help! read more

I first approached Bey & Associates in the beginning of March 2013. I got a very good impression from the first meeting, and while their services were at the very high end for the area (around $1200), I thought I would have the worry-free tax filing experience for a change. My supporting documents were in a very good shape, and it took another day or two to fill in the gaps for what was required to file a return. They asked for the payment upfront, and that alone should have raised a red flag. But read on. A week after is when things turned sour. Kim wanted to change our appointment date (completely ok!), but was very vague about when she wants to reschedule. I tried reaching out by email and phone to clarify when the date and time for the new appointment, but got absolutely no response until 4 days later. When we finally met, we walked through the tax return, and she has suggested a few things that would help minimize my return. When I finished implementing the suggestions, the calculations of promised benefits were off by $1500. Instead of asking me if I could adjust more, I was left with that number. After the detailed walk-through meeting, it took 3 weeks of very frustrating communication (missed appointment, no email responses, no call backs) to get my questions answered and get the finalized tax returns. Lastly, If you are considering her tax planning service, I would advise against it. I got a binder with some information in it, but no specific personalized action items for me. Spend your money somewhere else. Having gone through this frustrating and very expensive experience once, I don't see myself going through that ever again. And you shouldn't either. read more

Bey & Associates gives off an impression of professionalism, but I found them to be very bad at communication. A few weeks ago, I had a consultation with Kim and left her some old tax returns to look into whether or not I should file an amendment. She promised to get back to me with more information in the next couple of days, but I never heard back. I followed up by phone and by email several times, but nobody ever bothered to return my calls. For someone who says that she is looking for long-term clients, I found it strange that Kim and her office staff seemed so disinterested in follow-through. As a side note, Kim's fee structure is on the high end. She quoted me $850 to prepare a joint tax return and $1200 for a year's worth of all-you-can-eat accounting services. read more

Kim is professional, responsive and truly a pleasure to work with. I'd always used TurboTax in the past, but after working with Kim I have a new appreciation for the saying "you get what you pay for." She helped me find credits that I didn't even know existed...and which I'd apparently been missing for years using TurboTax. Kim's meeting with me were of significant benefit because she provided me with tax advice that I would not have otherwise known nor would have taken credit for and if I had my own returns. I actually found Kim through Yelp as I previously used Turbo Tax. Not only is Kim very nice and professional but she was able to answer all my tax questions and was able to provide me worksheets to maximize my tax deductions. She works with many different clients so I was surprised she had a great knowledge in the real estate industry as well as with my LLC. When I received my returns, she actually took the time to explain each step of the process. In addition to her tax expertise, she was able to explain how to maximize my 401k and Roth accounts. Tax Planning Goddess! Kim helped me with some very complex tax planning questions which allowed me to make early decisions which will save thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. She is very up-beat, friendly and conscientious. I read a couple of poor reviews and couldn't figure out why anyone would write a bad review about her since my experience was so great. So I checked out the reviewers and found that they were critical of everything they reviewed - even when they wrote a good review it would contain some sort of mean jab. So maybe Kim was smart to make sure she didn't get these people as her clients. Nobody needs mean people in their lives. read more

I am so glad I went to see Kim when I got a "love letter" from the IRS asking for thousands of dollars in unreported taxes from 2011. I had done my own taxes on line, and thought I followed all the directions properly, but somehow I made a major error. Kim looked at the letter and my return for about 45 seconds and said, "I think I can definitely help you with this. You don't owe all this money." A week later she contacted me that she had amended my 2011 return and, not only did I not owe any money at all... I was getting a refund of a hundreds of dollars! I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is frustrated with trying to figure out the tax system. She is fast, efficient, and really knows what she is doing. Just to be clear I work in the accounting/audit field so I am particular when it comes to CPAs. I made an error filing my 2011 tax return and received a menacing letter from the IRS. Kim went through the possible steps and outcomes during our initial consultation. I decided to go with her services following the consultation. I thought that she was extremely knowledgeable and personable. I also appreciated the fact that I came to her prior to the onset of tax season. I was so pleased with the results. July 2011 I don't even know where to begin when it comes to saying what a wonderful job Kim has done for me. I called her office, left a message, she returned my call the same day and the first thing she says to me is "send me your stuff and I will see if I can help you. I don't want to take your money if I cant help you." That's unheard of. I sent her my information and she called me at 930 PM to tell me that she was working on my case-even though I had not given her a dime and we had absolutely no discussion about compensation. Kim went out of her way to meet me on a Saturday and she invested at least 6-8 hours before we even discussed compensation. She is committed, hardworking, direct, and amazing. Absolutely amazing. Sept 2011 ***I wanted to update my review, in case some out there has received a letter from the IRS and is going bananas. After Kim worked on my case and sent it in the worry of owing more than $10K made me lose sleep many nights in a row. One unsuspecting day I went to get the mail and there was a letter from the IRS, I didn't want to open it. When I finally did, I felt as though I got my life back, worries lifted, gray hairs stop growing, lines and wrinkles faded. My claim was adjusted and the IRS OWED ME!!! How awesome is that. I called Kim and she was as excited as I was, how crazy is that.
