I'm not even sure how to describe Beyond the Edge. I typically stop in when there is a game I want to watch. I've been in for soccer, football and baseball. Every time I have been able to see what I came for. This is key in a sports bar. They even label the TV's during football, another key for when I am posting up for the day. The crowd is super diverse and I've never had bad service. The food is standard sports bar fare. The queso, bomb! Also if you like the Bears this is where you should be during football season. Overall it does what I need it to. My only qualm, which is standard to most Nashville bars, is that it's too smokey. When is Nashville going to hop on the no-smoking wagon???? read more

This is a smoky sports bar with friendly service. But the smoky aspect of this place is REALLY offputting for me to the point that I will not be coming back. Why are there still places that allow smoking inside? My entire body and clothes and our cheese dip was covered with second hand smoke. But I guess if you don't mind that everyone chainsmokes in your face here, then it's not a problem. Beyond that, their happy hour was 2 for 1 beers, and they had a big selection of beers, local and well known ones. The food menu looked unspectacular, with typical bar offerings like chicken fingers, burgers, nachos. We got the chips and queso. The queso was delicious, but the chips were cold and chewy in parts. Dumpy and smells like an ashtray. Even the bartender reeks of smoke! I couldn't leave fast enough! Being a smoking bar and being unclean are 2 entirely different things. Having employees that actually smell is just not acceptable. read more

Despite the cheesy sports bar feel, I really love Beyond the Edge. I say this mainly because of their Cheese Flautas. Oh man, they are like the love child of a taquito, a spring roll and a cheese stick. Totally knocked my socks off! Other than that, the drinks are priced pretty standard and they do have a pool table and dart boards if that's your cup of tea. All in all, I go for the yummy food and booze. This place is a non-smokers nightmare but they have a great draft beer selection and the food is above average than typical bar food. It's my least favorite bar in 5 Points unless it's happy hour (which is quite often) and then it's worth the trip. I always sit on the patio though because I cannot breathe inside, even if it's a slow night. Great service, typically busy, fun patio, good place to watch a football game and cheap eats. read more

I have spent some solid times here hanging out with my hubby and friends. However, I think it brought most of the solid times myself. Here are the pro's the outdoor seating is great and the indoor activities like pool and darts are good. I like that you don't' feel like you are in the middle of some chain sports bar as well because that just inspires me little. I also have never gotten a bad drink from there. My gripe is that the food is really not even good bar food. The beer and wine selection is fine but the service is always slow. I realize that waiting is not the end of the world but if I am going to pay a fairly premium price for just OK food, drinks, and sit on really unattractive furniture, then I would like to at least get it quickly and not wait 20 minutes for the check. That 's kind of been the norm for me when I have gone unless it was 2 pm on a Tuesday or something. Probably not my first stop on a rare night out but all you twenty somethings who are free to party unabashedly, I say go for it, there is certainly some merit to this place. read more

If you are a Chicago Bears fan, this is the bar for you. Not only do they show the Bears games, they offer 2 for 1 on beers. The food is delicious. I'm hooked on the sweet chicken salad. You can get it on top of a salad or grilled with cheese in a buttery croissant. Smoking is allowed, but it didn't overwhelm. Service was speedy and friendly. read more

This place just never seems to do it for me. There's nothing really spectacular or unique about it. They do have a larger selection of draft beer than a lot of bars, but 3 Crow, which is next door has an even bigger selection and a much better atmosphere. They have an outdoor patio but it's tiny and every time I've been there I haven't found an available table. There are a lot of tvs set up and it could be a good place to watch sports, but there are just way better places to visit in Nashville. Their food is mediocre at best and the service is s l o w. Even when they're empty it takes 10 minutes to get a drink. They have dart boards, pool tables and some video games which is neat if you're specifically looking to play pool. I've never had a particularly bad experience there but I haven't had a great one either. 5 points just has a lot better establishments to offer. read more

I think my problem with Beyond the Edge is its lack of coziness. I love a good dive bar, but the best ones have a coziness, comfortable, almost like drinking at home feel. This doesn't. It's in the middle of the coolest neighborhood in town and it has the feel of a strip mall bar. The food isn't bad though- and the barbecue chicken pizza is pretty good. They also have a good selection of really cold beer, a feature essential to every good dive bar. I know they have some good events here too - like Lightning 100's CD listening parties. I think if the owners work on the atmosphere a little, it would be much better. read more

I had heard about this place as it is where DA BEARS fans hang out and watch the game. So being in the neighborhood and thirsty on a Saturday afternoon I stopped in for a few pints. The staff was attentive and friendly as could be expected! Great beer selection both on tap and in bottles. My only complaint, the hipster patrons. The damn hipsters in the East side are nutso. So Nashville let's chat. It's 2017 and like smoking is gross. Please stop allowing your restaurants to smell like an old tired ashcan on the sidewalk. It's repulsive. So I tried Beyond the Edge even as gross as it smelled with the tobacco fires lustily burning. Beyond the Edge is where the menu went and not in the best way. Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla was a good idea in theory. Buffalo Chicken salad one step up. Very soggy nachos were on the appetizer menu. Black beans must be drained if pairing with chips. Great draft beer selections (2nd-most options in East Nashville probably), and best bar food on this side of town. The atmosphere is unique because it's a "sports" bar with "extreme sports" wall decor and a decidedly un-jockish crowd. But I honestly come here for the food. I love the wings (buffalo or XXX) w/ curly fries, and the wraps (esp. turkey basil) and quesadillas (esp. the hummus one) are my favorite options for something hearty but not greasy. read more

It's your typical sports bar where you can grab your typical beer and pub food. They have 25 beers on tap, a nice variety, many of them local brews. The bar is very spacious with plenty of pool tables and darts. I could see this as a great hang out to watch a game, play some pool, and have a beer or 5. As far as the food I had the Buffalo Chicken Grinder with curly fries. Fries were delicious, crispy and well seasoned. The sandwich itself was good, not great. I'm from Buffalo so my expectations are always high for something that is buffalo style. It hit the spot but was nothing exceptional. My partner in crime had the Amaretto Chicken Salad Sandwich which was a surprise. If you like chicken salad this is a great sandwich. Good flavor, not drenched in mayo, with a surprise sweet ending. I would definitely come here to watch a game, grab a beer, and play some bar games. If I was in the mood to eat I would save my appetite for another restaurant. read more

I have only been here once and don't have much to say except that I had a weird experience. I ordered the Porkslap Pale Ale and was brought the Moo Thunder Stout. The server assured me that he had brought me what I had ordered and I'm still confused. I don't know how ordering a pale ale equates to drinking a stout. I may be back, but I will be more careful in choosing my beer next time. I will also leave my jacket in the car as it is very smoky inside. read more

Great neighborhood bar! My boyfriend and I had been hearing great things about this place so we decided to try it. He had the wings.....and they were some of the best wings in town! The wings were cooked perfectly, great heat level (we ordered buffalo), and the curly fries...DELICIOUS! I had a flatbread sandwich which was also great, but I enjoyed the wings so much more! Let me start off by saying that I'm an introvert. Why is this relevant? Because I'm super picky about my social hangout spots. I've been shootin' the whiskey and eating their grub for about 6 years. It's easy there.....and that's a huge thing for me. The people that hang out there come from all walks of life, and that says a lot about an establishment. The staff is super awesome and they now have an extra bar area in the back room. The porches are pretty fantastic....and so is their jerk sauce. Beers are cheap, the food options are plentiful, and the servers are personable. There are plenty of 2-4-1's throughout the week if you're always broke like I am. It's a highlight of East Nashville and is great for observing people from a corner with a nice cold beer in hand. I'm giving five stars and a thumbs up all the way. read more

Their 2 for 1 beers allow you to mix and match the beers as long as they are the same price. The honey BBQ wings were amazing and the french fries were heavenly!!!!! First time there it was 2 for 1 magic hat draft beers and I had good wings with a pretty large sandwich so, yeah... I enjoyed it. They have an outdoor area and a side "non smoking room" (which is about half as smoky as the main area) for those of us who hate smoke. Lots of cheap drinks and tons of sports games on. Our waiter did forget our order, while checking on the table next to us 5 times, so we waited on one drink for half an hour. Maybe he had a bad day...when I sat at the bar the service was great. There are places you want to be great but poor management bring it down. The beer selection and menu variety are strong for a local stop. The staff are nice but they are understaffed and not following a zone plan so they float around trying to keep up with the pace. If the servers had strict zones and 1-2 more on a shift, it would help move customers in and out in less than the current 1.5-2 hours. I hope the management can tighten up the operation. This place isn't good but I love it. I've been told not to eat the food here by someone that worked here but I will eat it any day of the week. I walk here from home frequently for 2-4-1 drafts with friends. Actually I probably don't come here unless it's 2-4-1 draft but it seems like it is all the time. If you like the sports you can see big games on the many screens accompanied by loud fans. Cigarette smoke abounds so your eyes might burn. Throw some darts if the back room isn't too crowded. Beer selection is "ok". EDIT "pretty good". Pork quesadilla is great if you're a little drunk. Several alternatives next door if you need to move on. Bring your social dog if it's porch weather. Went here After Mad Donnas. I really really liked it for the service, food and customers. No I was not drinking and I was no scoping out anyone. However people were Nice here. The servers the customers and the food looked pretty dang good. Chatted with a guy and his girl and the nachos looked great, pizza amazing and the salad made me want to order one although the pizza had my attention. I went to chat with a friend who had beer. Ok really?!?! I Do t drink beer but 2 for 1 is pretty tempting and wine by the glass is also very reasonable at 5 or 7 dollars per glass. Wish I Loved beer. Would be awesome. Did do some people watching as stated above and people seemed comfortable here. Do u ever look around and see that? What are their stories and are they here bc hungry or tired or just for the food. You can play trivia and some tables enjoyed it but they were not allowed. Service was really Good for the little we ordered. They have a bar seating area and outside. All looked inviting. I like hanging out here on weekend afternoons when it's not crowded. Any time other than that, the smell of fried food and cigarette smoke is enough to make me go elsewhere. The food here is decent, but nothing I'd ever have a craving for. That said, when it's good, it's pretty good. Sunday 2-for-1s on the front porch are a great time when the weather is right, and in Nashville, that's pretty often. You can always head somewhere else nearby after a few rounds. read more
