Great experience again with Bill. I had another project with recessed lighting in my home. Bill came and gave me a fair estimate and explained everything he was about to do (long story short - I have a complicated home, and it wasn't going to be daisies and roses. He would have to open up lots of walls and ceilings). He even pushed back on my project a bit and challenged whether it was worth the cost. I appreciated that feedback from him. Bill made the best of my difficult room situation and did a professional job. Midway through we discovered the ceilings were going to be trickier than we expected, and he explained why I now had extra holes in the ceilings due to discovering new ducts and pipes up above. I'm a reasonable guy and just attribute that to the discovery process of owning an old home. Now normally hiccups like this would push the project timeline and budget out a bit more, but Bill just came back the next day and completed the job, no fuss, and at the same price. I cannot more highly recommend Bill (Beyonergy) for work he recently did on our home. I had a combo heater/vent fan and light fixture in our bathroom, fail. I tried to replace it myself, but noticed some really funky wiring that was not only a mess, but missing a ground wire. Bill made the call on very short notice and found the problem immediately along with a solution to fix the faulty (and dangerous wiring). Bill is very communicative, clearly explains what he discovers and gives the options on how to remedy work done by sloppy or unqualified contractors that came before him. We lost power to our detached garage and Bill responded immediately. His standard call-out rate was a little higher than another, but something drew me to Bill and I'm so glad I made that decision. The job turned out to be one of those annoying, tricky ones. Other electricians might have walked away. But Bill was extraordinary. He was extremely communicative. This review is long overdue! Since my regular electrician (David of Tinpa Electrics) was swamped, he recommended that I call Bill to help with some lights that needed to be installed in our home. Bill was very prompt in returning my call and we were able to schedule a lighting installation at a convenient time for me. I have nothing but high praise for Bill's workmanship. He was very mindful of the spaces that he was working in. He could have charged me the original quoted price and installed a very heavy light fixture in my sons room, but he didn't install the fixture because he showed me how much of a safety hazard it was. He deducted the price from his original quote with no hassle even if he already did some labor opening up the ceiling and making his assessments. We had a wall outlet that didn't seem to be working properly. It was potentially even dangerous. So I contacted Bill Vuong at Beyonergy, and he came over right away. Indeed, there was a breakthrough in a hot wire's insulation that had momentarily shorted to ground when I had inspected the outlet. I understood that there was a $150 minimum charge, but the "problem" with our can light turned out to be that we bought the wrong-shaped bulb, so the bulb wasn't screwing it all the way. So, the solution was to buy another bulb. I'm not sure this was a solution worth $150. read more

Bill is a knowledgeable electrician. My duplex in Alameda required some new sub panels to run internal electricity from the exterior boxes. My place was having some electrical problems and I was referred to Bill by one of his partners. Bill explained everything I needed and most importantly Why. I know stuff like this can be costly but I think Bill's quote and rate was very reasonable. You know how remodeling can be? All those contractors who seemed so nice at first turn out to be less reliable and nice than you thought...BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH BILL, the owner of Beyonergy. I have worked with Bill throughout my remodel, converting a warehouse into two residences, and he has always been a pleasure to work with. He shows up when he says he will and works efficiently and professionally. I especially appreciated that Bill was willing to work flexibly with me in laying out my electrical and lighting plans on the fly (of course i had generic lighting plans on my drawings, but we ended up creating something quite different). I also had to remove several old panels and transformers, and all the work has gone smoothly. All city inspections have gone well. My first call to Bill was to check if a 220V outlet was working. He informed me of the minimum charge before he came out, and once he got here the check took only a few minutes. Bill charged me less than the minimum charge since he was in the area anyway and the call was so short. It was his fairness that made me decide to call him back when I had a major remodel to do. Bill was a real pleasure to work with. We needed to replace one of the fuse panels on our 1890 victorian duplex. The house wasn't built with electricity and this fuse panel looked like it was from when electricity was first installed. There were also 2 "new" circuit panels but unfortunately new in this case meant from the 1960s. So the whole thing had to be replaced and if we're doing all that upgrading the amount of amps coming into the house made sense which meant a new thicker wire running down the house. Also a grounding rod. To save money I did some of the non-electrical leg work. The outside of the house must be flat and the ground level in front of the panels. I also went down to city hall and waited in line to pull the permit myself. If you're getting a service upgrade make sure you hire someone experienced with the intricacies of Oakland code. There are a million rules about number of inches this must be from that, how the sticker labels must be placed etc. Bill showed me how to safely open everything for the city inspector but he was nice enough to come by for the inspection (which wasn't part of the deal). Now we are just waiting for PG&E to do an inspection and make a permanent connection. Bill put the whole thing together over 3 days but it's going to take PG&E 2 months to do an inspection. read more

I was empty headed and tried to tighten up a really old wall plug that was loose without turning off the breaker fuse which exploded in my face! This took out power in part of the house. I reached out to my normal electrician David at night unfortunately he was out of town and referred me to his friend Bill. Bill's voice mailbox was full so I sent a text msg and he was very responsive and was able to make it out the next morning which was a Saturday. Bill is very wise and knowledgeable and took the time to explain to me how my electrics worked throughout the house and he fixed and replaced my wall plug and checked my wires and fuse box. The box was old and suggested a replacement due to a recall and broke down the costs but there was no pressure. He noticed I had swapped out a bunch of other wall plugs throughout the house so he was kind enough to check the rest of them and made suggestions for the type of plug for each room. He even recommended more affordable places buy them vs the big box stores. He is quite conversational once he starts explaining the inner workings but that seemed to be his way of making sure everything was understood completely by me which was great. I had been trying finish 2 bathrooms as part of a difficult remodeling project on a 75 yr old home in Oakland. My contractor flaked out on me before the final city inspection was done. Based on Beyonergy Yelp reviews I gave Bill a call and he came out the next day. He looked at the bathrooms and pointed out some things with the GFI circuits that were done incorrectly that would not pass the inspection. He explained in detail what needed to be done. The charges for his work were reasonable plus he could complete the job the next day. I passed the final inspection with no problems. Besides his good work the outstanding thing in my mind is how responsive Bill is to phone calls and texts. He gets back to you quickly! He also can usually get to the job within 1-2 days and even saves Saturdays for emergencies. read more

Bill is knowledgeable, competent, responsive, and honest. He was one of the first electricians to respond to our inquiry (we left messages for a dozen), and came out very quickly to look at the job. (We may have lucked out that he had just gotten back from vacation. Some electricians were not taking new work because they were so busy.) His bid was similar to other bids we got, but he was more competent than some, explaining the code requirements as we walked through the job. Ours was not a huge job -- installation of outdoor 240V and 110V plugs, repair of another outdoor plug, installation of 3 indoor plugs, and wiring 240V to a detached garage, via an overhead wire. Bill returned my call quickly, and arrived when he said he would arrive. After I'd shown him what we needed done, he asked to wash his hands to keep the new fixtures clean. Frankly, that was a first in my experience and I really appreciated it. He also made sure to protect our hardwood floor as he worked. I had Bill replace our old 60's style, yellowed can lights with new LED lights. I had also wanted him to install push button dimmer switches in two rooms, to replace existing toggle switches (to bring us back to the original era of our home); however, Bill explained that what I'd bought was not compatible with the new lights. I had numerous questions and Bill was clearly knowledgable as he answered my questions. Despite having to take time with the switches, he did not charge me, despite installing one in our dining room! His price was very reasonable. I'm hoping we can use Bill for an upcoming remodel (I know the general contractor has his own guy, but I plan to discuss using Bill instead. After the brick foundation of my mother's three story 1898 house was completed, I needed to get the basement level rewired. I contacted many electricians, with which the majority just came out to look at the job and never followed up with an estimate. Bill from Beyonergy Electric was one of the few, who actually followed through with an estimate--a very reasonable $ estimate. He was also very frank in telling me that, "No one is going to connect new wiring in the basement to the existing knob and tube on the upper level because that is a fire hazard." What I needed was a complete re-wiring of the house--a major undertaking, that all the other folks didn't have the integrity to tell me. Bill warned me,ahead of time, that he would have to open up a lot of walls to re-wire the upper levels, and that there would be a lot of dust. Bill didn't "sugar-coat" any of his words, and gave me the reality of my situation. Long story short....Bill was very accommodating in working with my schedule. He always gave me a "heads up", what area of the house he was planning to work on next. I felt guilty that Bill had to work around all the 30 plus years of accumulated clutter in the house. He stayed on schedule, if not actually a little ahead of schedule. As promised, I could still stay in an area of the house that wasn't being retrofitted. In the evenings, there was always working electricity when I returned home from work. Bill also pointed out and remedied some electrical grounding issues I had with a recently installed water heater. He did this free of charge--no pun intended, because "water and electricity don't mix." When I had the old galvanized plumbing upgraded to copper,in this house, the team of 4 to 5 plumbers said, "You're house is a nightmare to work on...." Beyonergy Electric had mentioned to me a lot of "nightmarish" obstacles were also encountered during the re-wiring of the entire house. I found Bill from a list of recommended electricians from the Golden Gate Mother's Group (via my wife). I wanted to have my electrical circuits "grounded" and wasn't sure what that meant. I had a phone consult with another electrician who suggested a $2-6000 job. Bill had a more practical approach. He could do a complete re-wiring that could cost that much; alternatively, if we were really concerned about safety of my family and electronics, then replacing GFIC receptables would do the trick and bring everything up to code.
