My 100th First to Review!…read more I always find it somewhat awkward reviewing medical professionals... from doctors to dentists, therapists and the like, the unique relationship formed between specialists and their patients seem a strange thing to attach a review to. In any case, the scenario is easier when you have only good things to report. Over the years I have had to switch primary physicians a number of times. Since having left my pediatrician for obvious reasons, insurance changes have forced these necessary adjustments. Fortunately, these exchanges have led me to Dr. Michael Campbell's care. Dr. Campbell is an energetic, knowledgeable, and personable physician practicing Family and Internal Medicine in Fall River, MA. A 2001 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, this physician works out of Millview Medical Associates and is affiliated with several surrounding medical establishments. As a healthcare professional myself, it is sometimes difficult to find a physician who will treat you like a patient. What I mean by that is many physicians expect and assume that you know everything there is to know about certain conditions, lab work findings, and medications. This is not the case with Dr. Campbell. He takes the time to willingly review and explain concepts that though familiar to me, are a nice reminder, refresher, or lesson when it comes to my own life. I can only imagine this service is enhanced for those lacking a medical background. He never appears to be in a rush with appointments and don't let this statement fool you... I usually only have to wait about 15 minutes to be called into an examine room. I always feel as though my statements and concerns are heard thoroughly and options in care carefully weighed between the benefits, risks, and what would work best for me individually. It's nice to feel as though you have a working and collaborative relationship with your physician. If you are looking for a primary care physician and he is available to accept new patients, I highly recommend Dr. Campbell for your overall health needs.

Well run practice group of competent medical professionals and helpful support staff…read more Primary care is facing a crisis. Primary care docs only get paid for about 40% of what they spend time doing. The reimbursement rates for what primary care docs do get paid for are significantly lower than they are for specialists. The economics virtually demand primary care docs sprint through their day seeing as many patients as possible, dedicating as few minutes to each as they can get away with. These structural problems, and other concerns, mean the country is facing a primary care doc shortage of 50,000 practitioners over the next decade. But here in Massachusetts, primary care in has been in crisis for years. If you're reading this review looking for a new primary care doc, you probably already knew that. Pros: Millview Medical, which is a Steward health care affiliated practice group under the direction of Christopher Joncas, MD, employs a small army of support staff to let the doctors do what they are there to do - practice medicine. The staff are generally kind, responsive, and competent. And while that should be the standard, it is, in actual fact, extraordinarily rare. The docs with whom I've interacted all have provided medically indicated and appropriate care - and if that sounds like damning with faint praise - it's not - competence is what I value above all else in a physician. Cons: I'd like to see them adopt the kind of patient portal other health care systems have (Partners has patient gateway, Caregroup has patient site) which allow patients to have access to all of their health records and securely electronic message providers. That is a massive capital expenditure and will, undoubtedly, have to come from Steward - hopefully meaningful use will spur them on to it.

I wasn't happy when she "skewed" my bloodwork data with a formula for an "average smoker" which I was not, causing my cholesterol levels to go up and then she tries to push a statin med on me which my body did not require! The last straw was her inability to diagnose a skin infection after I was strung by a bee. The woman left me in pain calling it neuropathy trying to get me on Gabapentin! I had to go to the ER for proper treatment! I am a smart, educated woman, I know what is wrong with me, and funny once I got on an antibiotic......I got better!! She does not listen to the patient, she has HER notion in her head and doesn't go beyond what she feels, doesn't matter what we say. Had I not gone and gotten on an antibiotic God only knows how far the infection would have gone. And it is on my head, near my eye I might add. I cannot continue to see a Dr I feel is not treating me correctly, and I feel I know more about my problem than she does.

I recently have seen Dr Rice due to a motorcycle accident and he has been nothing short of amazing. He is caring, listens to me...doesnt make me feel bad when I tell him about the pain I am experiencing...he immediately offered me a note about being out of work, is sending me to PT and making time weekly to fit me into his schedule weekly to check in with me. To add to that, Karen (medical assistant or maybe nurse) she has called to check on me & has listened to me without judgement as well. I honestly didnt expect my medical care from sstar to be as topped notched that it is, but even Betty gets back to me immediately when I call. Basically everyone there are thorough and LISTEN.
