We immediately took him to baptist since they deal with alot of pediatrics and since they pride themselves on having every specialty "under one roof". Needless to say after 6 hours, we were discharged with no real answers, only more questions. The next day we went to Vaughn Regional ER. The care we received while there put Baptist to shame in comparison. They ran tests that Baptist didn't (or failed to), got him in for a pediatric ultrasound and echo, and treated us with five star care from start to finish. The nursing staff (2 wonderful women and 1 male) were truly amazing. Brandon, the X-ray tech was excellent, truly wonderful at his job. He put both my son and myself at ease and made the entire ultrasound and echo procedure stress free. Even the nursing director, Phil, came by to personally ensure we were receiving excellent care. The ER doctor, Dr Pinon, had some of the best bedside manner I have ever experienced. You could tell that him and his entire ER staff work so well together and want every patient to feel cared for and to give them the best standard of care possible. They had us in and out in under three hours, yes you read that right. They ran all the correct tests, performed all the correct procedures and gave us real world anssr Whatever has happened in Selma with the leadership changes is working! This hospital is finally headed in the right direction.

I frequently had to go to the nurses' station for help. Most staff moved slowly and showed little concern for patient comfort. We had to ask every question; nothing was volunteered. At discharge, we were left without needed medical equipment due to poor communication between staff. A few team members were kind, but overall, the standard of care needs serious improvement.

I called the receptionist to make the appointment and asked for a morning appointment. She gave me the option of 9:15, 10:15, and 2:15. I asked for the 10:15 time slot. When we arrived at 10:15 it turns out the receptionist made the mistake of booking the 2:15 appointment time instead of the 10:15. We drove over an hour for the appointment and told the receptionist the situation and how there must have been a miscommunication on both ends. She refused to try and work with us and just said you have to come back at 2:15. She did not ask the doctor or nurses if they could squeeze us in because there had been a miscommunication on both ends. After the experience at Demopolis and now at Tuscaloosa I could never recommend UMC to anyone. I asked to transfer my child's records to another facility that day. As a healthcare professional myself I know that miscommunications can happen and you try to work with your patients. I will not be recommending any of my future patients use UMC.

We wasted time, money and most of she sat in pain for 3 hours when if they would have said when we walked in, "I'm sorry we don't set bones, take her to the children's hospital" we wouldn't have had to have two hospital bills! I was like I checked in online, the girl told me walking ins get preference and I should try med 360. I had waited hours for my child to see a Md and they tell me well you were not a walk in. Why have an online system if it doesn't work or your employees don't follow it.

Was originally told by the surgeon that I would be able to go home after two days in the hospital. Despite the delay, I was pleased that the doctors kept me until they were satisfied I could safely go home. My recovery at 3 weeks post surgery is going well. I am a 78-year-old widower from Auburn.
