Riding by I missed it. Once I looked it has it name posted across the top of the building. The parking lot is adjacent to the bank beside it and is small. The cost of the items are within the same price point as REI or Trek. This is small bike store with an incredible selection of items. They also carry Hill Killer garments as well as Trek items. However, I went in for flat bike shoes but they did not have many shoes. What I saw was clip ins. I looked around and of course adventured to the clearance table and found some socks and and a saddle bag. There were 3 staff members inside and the female was very inviting and friendly. Depending on your time and if you want to patronize small businesses like this I would say this is your go to. But if you want a bigger selection of items to choose from this is not the place for you. read more

I decided to take my bike into the Bicycle Connection was n Hunt Valley recently for a shifter replacement and a general tune up. Since I have my spare bike ( Trek road bike that Bill the owner sold me probably 20 years ago), I wasn't in too big of a hurry. The notice comes a day later that bike work was completed. I went to the store a couple weeks ago and experienced very poor customer service by Bill. He was supposed to order a bike for me. Told me he would follow up in a week. Took my name and email. A week passed, never heard from him. Followed up next day. He answered phone and barely remembered our past encounter. He said he would call me right back. Again, never heard back from him. Called the next day, person who answered phone said Bill wouldn't be in till Monday. Left my name and number for bill to call Monday. Once again never received a call back. Bike Fitting Guru System specific review. I had a fitting done and it was low quality. The Guru bike used is falling apart, inconsistent resistance, loose handlebar, etc. My last fitting was done using the Retul system and that was much higher quality. Maybe use Guru if you want new bike recommendations, but this fitting did not do any adjustments to my own bike. read more

Great experience today shopping at The Bicycle Connection in Cockeysville. We have had several recommendations to shop at a place like BC. We have been riding mountain bikes for a number of years and have 20 year old bikes -- serve us well for sure. Having several friends that road bike, we have decided to delve into the road arena. Most of the places we ride are set for road bikes already. We know a little bit about road bikes -- listening to friends and watching some good YouTube videos. BC was our third or fourth stop at a bike shop. Immediately we felt we were in good hands with Bill. He listened to us and understood us. He showed us several bikes. We even showed him a used bike that a friend is selling and he helped us consider that purchase. Once selecting the bike that I thought would be best, he let me ride it around the block. I was sold. Bill also helped us with accessories. His advice was solid. read more

I had my bike stolen a little bit ago and ended up covering it but it needed a few things fixed. I took it in to drop it off for repairs. When I got there there were 2 employees, a young adult and a middle-aged man who were both behind the counter texting/doing something on their phones. Neither even looked at me as approached the counter. When I said something the along the line of "Excuse me, I'm looking to get my bike fixed", one of the 2 looked up and said that someone would be with me in a moment, then WENT BACK TO TEXTING! I couldn't believe it! I almost walked at that moment but stuck around for a few moments until someone came out of the back, saw me and asked what he could help me with. I explained the situation to the person helping me and asked how much it would cost to fix the bike. I was told "well, it really depends". I asked a couple of times for a more concrete answer until I finally said something to the effect of "if it is the worst case scenario, how much am I looking to pay" until I finally got any kind of idea about the cost of the repairs. When I dropped off the bike I was told someone would email me when it was done and a promise it would be done in 9 days. I hoped that I had just had an abnormal experience and hoped that things would be a lot better when I picked up the bike. On the 10th, day I called as I had heard nothing from Bicycle Connection. I was told that my bike had been finished for almost a week. Why they didn't contact me is beyond me. I went in to once again find the staff member on the floor to be texting. For the second time, I was told someone would be with me in a moment only for the man to go back to texting.After almost a minute he finally got around to helping me and called someone out of the back to go get my bike. It is absurd how poor their customer service is. Even in talking with them, I felt like they were inconvenienced by my business. The only reason that I given them 2 stars was that the work on my bike seems to be done well. I would suggest staying away from The Bicycle Connection unless the owners have a serious talk to their employees about service, priorities, attitude, and the use of cellphones read more

Let me just first say that the 3 star rating is based on the large selection of bikes and accesorries they have. I first found out about The Bicylce Connection through a friend who purchased a bike here. I went to the website two days ago and the website had a huge ad about a big sale they were having on the weekend. Well that got me pretty excited being that bikes can be pretty expensive. So I decided I would call before I went out there. And I also wanted to get a look as to what was on sale before it actually began. Well once I spoke to the manager he let me know that the sale was LAST weekend. Umm how would I know if the website didn't specify an actual date...Well he let me know of some other bikes similiar to what I was looking for were on sale. I drove out there it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I loved the price it just wasn't for me. The bike that I wanted was there of course it was no longer on sale ;( I could have purchased the bike there but I decided to buy it from Race Pace only because its closer to home for when I have to bring it back in for tune ups. **Note to management: do a better job updating your website** read more

I previously had a 1 star review of this place from years ago. They have improved tremendously since then. Over the past year I have made this my go to bike shop for just about everything. Their prices are more than fair. Sometimes they get beat on price by REI but not often. Their service team is the area of most improvement. Years ago this was a serious weak point for The Bicycle Connection. Lately it has been stellar. They have gone our of their way to find low cost solutions to repair problems. I have even had them find lower cost repair options AFTER I agreed to a higher cost estimate. Their staff is friendlier than ever and recognizes me when I walk in the door. Triggered bike mechanic provides belligerent customer service... "That's because you're a DICK!" shouted the bike mechanic at me on 5/25/2018. He was responding like a petulant teenager to my questioning his customer service. A bit of background... I had gone to Bicycle Connection to pick up my wife's bike after a minor tune-up. The mechanic retrieved it and said the total was $122. I asked how much the base cost of a tune-up was. He responded gruffly, "What it always is...$80." When I asked what bumped the bill up to $122, he told me it cost $12 to change the tubes (per tire). I rolled my eyes and said, "Wow." He responded defensively: "If you think that's a lot, call other bike shops and see what they charge!" He then glared at me and demanded, "How long does it take YOU to change a tube?" (Quite a pissing contest...let's compare tube-changing prowess!) Not believing any store employee who expected to keep customers would be acting this way, I said, "This is definitely the worst customer service I've experienced in my life." "That's because you're a DICK!" I responded, "Sorry, I'm just reacting to your behavior." "You started the name-calling!" he retorted. "I never call you a name; I just pointed out your bad customer service and ignorance." "Ignorance?" he asked incredulously. "YOU'RE the ignorant one, because you have to come here for bike repairs you can't make yourself." I replied, "So your customers are ignorant because they'd rather be doing something other than bike tune-ups...doesn't that work provide you with a living?" He then brushed by me, storming off to the back of the store while adding huffily, "I stopped listening to you long ago, man." In a half-serious way, I then asked him if he'd hold the door so I could wheel the bike out of the store. Surprisingly, he did...but only as a way of getting in a few more barbs. He first bizarrely suggested that I asked him to hold the door so I could "get [him] to come outside" because I wanted to duke it out with him (!). As I walked out, he leaned in close and uttered, his voice unsteady, "You'd better watch yourself...this is a small town." Wow. Later that day, I emailed both Randy Hall, the owner of Bicycle Connection, and Bill Pikounis, the store manager whom I'd been friendly with for many years. I recounted my interaction with the mechanic and asked if it was expecting too much not to be verbally abused and threatened by their employees. I soon heard back from Bill, who wrote, "I'm sorry that you had to witness that. No you don't have to look for another shop [I said I'd do this if the issue wasn't addressed]. Randy has been away for the week. When he returns next week, we will be dealing with it." Several months have gone by, yet that was the last I heard from Bill, and I got no response at all from Randy. I've only had occasional contact with Randy over the years, but he always seemed focused most on the bottom line rather than good service. In this case, he decided to ignore a customer complaint, likely because he didn't want to deal with his disgruntled mechanic. Exact motivations are often subjective. What isn't subjective or forgivable is Randy's and Bill's failure to follow up about the complaint, leading me to conclude that Bicycle Connection is all about low ethical standards and poor customer service...as long as they can turn a quick buck. read more

High on Prices, Short on Service - Do business here at your own risk. Having purchased 5 bikes at The Bicycle Connection in as many years I can say with confidence that there are some very knowledgeable and courteous people who work here. However, those individuals do not outweigh the ones who lack the level of knowledge and/or respect to deserve your business. It does not matter if you have purchased a $500 bike or $5000 bike, as I have done both - and a few others in between - they do not care, enough... Furthermore, the level of communication and coordination within the business has presented me with unnecessary delays on multiple occasions. Very rarely are things done when they say they will be, it is not convenient and again, most the service staff do not seem to care. It pains me to say that as I mean no disrespect to the few good, honest, and reasonable employees there, but again - it does not make up for the poor performance of the majority, and the overall poor experience that goes along with that. Do business here at your own risk, as your experiences will likely vary over time. Shop around and be aware of other bike shops in the area that will appreciate your business more - and continue to try to earn that business in the future. Developing those relationships is important and until The Bicycle Connection realizes that they will continue to live up to their over-priced, under-serviced, and less than knowledgeable reputation - as I have found ALL of those things to be true currently, and in recent years. The service staff are the most condescending and arrogant part - more so than any other bike shop I have ever been to. In an unfortunate pairing the sales staff is limited in what they can offer, their ability to negotiate pricing - their world revolves around Trek's MSRP, not much else exists... If this review means anything to them they would fix that 'approach' to their business model, spend less time correcting - and offending Customers, and more time understanding the needs of their Customers. They could then use that correcting/offending time saved to provide the types of quality bikes, accessories, and the service that a Consumer should expect. Quality and attention compliment understanding, and they have staff that could deliver, but fail to execute. Until these things are fixed there are more responsive, attentive, and less expensive options in the area. To be clear I would give this place 4 stars for Sales staff, though limited, followed by 3 stars for the selection (Trek, mostly), with 2 stars for the Service (staff, service, and labor responses in general), 2 stars for the location (a tight corner and small parking lot), and finally 1 - maybe even 0 stars for the individual effort/experiences of some staff, which greatly take away from the experience one should/could have given the proper courtesy and attention to detail. They really, really need to work on this. Overall 12/5 = 2.4, so I'm 'rounding down' and going with 2 stars. Hope this helps to clarify. read more

Potentially dangerous to shop there. While I have multiple complaints from my last experience there, I'll give you the top three reasons to not shop there. 1) sales staff do not know much about bikes and will lie. Granted it was only one person, but I was comparing components on two bikes for my son and asking if one set was better than the other. The salesperson muttered out something akin to 'maybe' and then a few other things - not answering the question. I finally interrupted him and told him to just say he didnt know if he really didnt know. He finally admitted "I'm not sure". This is basic component stuff here people- he would have told me the sun was blue to sell a bike -- good thing I knew better. 2) Incompetent mgmt. Not sure if business is so good that they dont need to respond to customers phone calls or not, but apparently so. One of the managers was supposed to call me back twice-- the second time I even called myself and he said he'd call me back in one hour. Days later-- I finally went and just go my bike back. 3) Which leads me to the potentially dangerous part-- if the sales staff is incompetent and will tell you whatever you want to hear just so you buy a bike and the mgmt is also incompetent and doesnt care about customers-- that tells me that the mechanics are probably just as incompetent as the others. After dealing with the rest of the 'team' there, there is no way I would risk my life by riding one of their bikes. read more

I've been into this store 3 times over the last few years, each time thinking maybe things have changed and it will be a better experience. However, it's always the same. The guys behind the counter don't acknowledge you when you walk in, even if there's only one other customer at the counter (or in the entire store). When you ask them a question, they respond with a curt response and grim faces. The only times I've seen them act friendly (on two separate occasions) was when someone was purchasing a bike valued over $300. More so, their selection of bike parts is terrible. I'm not sure if I can fully justify this statement because apparently their parts are stored "downstairs", in an area where customers aren't allowed to browse, but it's hard to know exactly what you want if you can't browse through what they have. Also, the parts they do have are very overpriced. If you're thinking about going into this place, I would say avoid the hassle and find a better bike shop, or just go to Amazon. read more

Horrible experience. We went here today to buy a bike for our 9 year old daughter, who is physically disabled. She can already ride a bike, but we wanted to buy one for her that was perfect and very comfortable for her. When we got there, we found a bike. A woman helped us out who was actually very nice. The woman went back inside, after taking the training wheels off, so my daughter could try the bike out. The owner/manager came out about a minute or two later, to inform us that we could not try the bike out after all, because they don't allow people to "teach their kids how to ride on his property". We attempted to explain that she already knows how to ride a bike, but she was trying to find a more comfortable way of starting the bike, but he said that "she clearly doesn't know how to ride a bike." He was so shockingly rude in his tone and the way he was glaring at us, that we were a little stunned. We got our child off of the bike, gave him back his precious $200 KID'S bike, and left. My husband called him later to find out why exactly he was so horrific in customer service, and the man started to yell at him at the phone about how 'great' he was in customer service and how many years of business he's been in. This is my first review ever of anything. And we've had bad customer service before, Lord knows. But it wasn't anything ever like this, and it involved our child, who was sobbing in the car when we left. She understood why we were leaving, because 'that man was so mean', but it still doesn't mean that it didn't hurt her. read more

I've been going to The Bicycle Connection for regular maintenance like tune-ups, tires, tubes, etc for a few years now. Their service has always been priced reasonably and their staff have always been friendly. But when I was recently shopping for a new bike, they didn't seem very knowledgeable about their products (or maybe they just weren't interested in the sale since I wasn't spending a huge amount of money). I went in on two separate visits to discuss buying a new bike and they barely wanted to give me the time of day. I am a Trek fan who has been shopping at bicycle connection for the last four years. Over that time I purchased four bikes, most recently, a Domane SL 6 during their annual Trekfest sale. My experiences have always been great. They go out of their way to get me the bike I want at the best possible price and follow up with great service after the purchase. The staff are very knowledgeable with a laid back approach In which they offer you options but do not try to press the sale (My last purchase took place over about six months). The owner of the business is Randy. I was in the shop inquiring about a set of carbon wheels for a road bike, Randy came out of the blue and yelled out "why in the hell would you buy those, no one uses those anymore becuase they are junk". Needless to say the set of wheels I was referring to was on their showroom floor, as they had just taken over a shop that went out of business. The wheels were marked down to a blowout price according to the shop folks. I found them from another shop that has customer service. Staff is ill trained. They beleive Trek is the only cycle maker which their only brand. Friends tried contacting Randy to be involved in local charity rides, he blew them off rudely as well. read more

Our bike broke on the NCR trail and a nice lady on the trail recommended this store for replacing a broken chain. We went into the store and they would not replace the chain, telling us we would have to wait until they could squeeze the job between other jobs. The fact that we were in the middle of the ride and didn't have the time made no difference. They could not take 5 minutes and put on a new bike chain and enable two people return to the trail to finish the bike run. Rude and unprofessional. read more

I feel compelled to say that each and every person with whom I had contact could not have been more helpful, more friendly, more encouraging to my son, as the bike was for him. What a wonderful store! First of all, there's the selection, second to none (I did shop around). But more importantly, the salesman (Chris) was so extremely helpful, ensuring we got the most suitable stuff. Obviously, there's a safety consideration with bikes, especially bikes and equipment for young people: no time to go on the cheap at a discount place. Not for my grandchildren.
