I happily joined to live vicariously through her life successes. And damn! I was blown away by how many beautiful fixtures there are! There was so much that was beyond my imagination. There were modern, vintage, mid-century, and luxury lights. Our style is mid-century modern, and we picked out a few that fit that aesthetic. Though, I would say there were just a few lights in the style. They were also somewhat limited on lighted overhead fan choices. But the best part was the customer service. We were able to build a "wish list" with an associate, where every item that piqued our interested was populated under her new account. There, you can review all of the details and customizations (like color, type of lighting, finish etc). There also seemed to be a lot on sale which was a treat!

I thought about fixing it myself but decided to hire a pro. Finding a place which restores old lamps which also had good reviews required some research but with the assistance of Yelp. I finally zeroed in on Lightworks. They did an excellent job of restoring my lamp. In addition to replacing the switch they also replaced the cord. They even found a plug which is appropriate to the era (see picture). They are not easy to find. They are located at the back of a rather large building with several tenants. Go north on 14 th Street from East Hennepin about 3 blocks until you reach Winter Street. Keep going straight across Winter on 14 th. It dead ends after about a block and Lightworks is on the left. In addition to repairs they have a nice selection of light fixtures which are restored originals or replicate vintage fixtures. Great if you have an older home. I highly recommend.

If you are going to be doing anything that will require a sizeable amount of lumber, come here. You'll save a significant amount of money. Even a red cedar 4x4x10' will be $20 less than what you'll get at Menards or Home Depot. And that is just on one piece of wood. Plus, it feels like they take care of their employees as I see some of the same people and this is from shopping here multiple years. There are other things offered here that are from different manufactures too like doors, interior hinges, etc.

It didn't give me great confidence, but I'd read good reviews of them so I went ahead with it. After about a month I emailed several times to get a status update and wasn't getting a response, so I called and left a message. Then I got an email reply a couple days later, saying they were sorry, that they have the wood and will send photos next week for my approval. Discovering it hadn't started assembly and was already overdue by a couple weeks was a real downer, and now emailing me photos of wood sitting in their shop would take a week? I waited more than a week and emailed again asking for an update. Silence. So I drove back to their shop and an employee showed me the wood he said was for my order. I sent a follow-up email after my visit pleading for them to begin assembly on it as soon as possible. Forget sending the photos to me (I was worried they didn't know how to send an email with photos by that point, and it would only slow them down another two weeks). No response. Several days later I called, at my wits end about the 'email black hole' that seemed to tragically envelop their shop and their inability or unwillingness to update me. I left a voicemail. A couple days later I received an email reply to my phone call saying that not all of my wood was there and it would take too long to get the rest so he was canceling the order. Unreal. This was the worst experience I've received communicating with a business in a long time. A lack of updates and follow through left me in a bind, and I now must start all over again after 8 weeks waiting like a fool on a piece of news I should've got after 48 hours.

The guy loaded them up and I drove off, again very friendly and helpful. My project started two weeks after that. My contractor went to open up the boxes and started to work. When he got to the third box, five out of six tiles were cracked or broken. My contractor told me they should stand by the tile and do an exchange. So I called them to let them know and that I was in the middle of my project and needed another box and that one box was broken, so would I be able to bring these pieces back and exchange for a new box? They informed me that once the tile leaves their store, they aren't responsible anymore! Do they think I enjoyed driving another 30 miles to deal with this in the middle of my project? So I asked I'm supposed to just buy another box with no assistance? She informed me that it was company policy! I asked her to talk to a manager, she came back and said, sorry we can't do anything for you. WOW! Thanks for letting me know you have such a crappy policy and ZERO customer service! I should've shopped at the TILE SHOP! Next time we will be.
