I came here to purchase a simple lock for my bike seat, and they installed it for free for me (and it didn't seem like a simple task either - took maybe 10-15 min of their time). On first glance, you might think the bright and clean interior and relatively high end Specialized bikes would make this place pretentious, but that couldn't be more false. The staff is really helpful and nice,and clearly know what they're talking about. They gave me some great advice about a problem I was having, even though I clearly wasn't buying anything that day... It's also a breath of fresh air in the Philly world of hipster (or whatever you want to call them) bike shops that are commonplace. I purchased a real bicycle from them more than a year ago (after riding a walmart brand bicycle for so long). I signed up for their 3 years service plan. I'm glad I made that purchase. There are a lot of things about bicycle that I don;t understand and I trust Bicycle Therapy to work and do the maintenance on my bicycle. They are super nice, professional, quick, and cheap. I had a flat tire fixed, front and rear brake pads replaced for less than $50 in total. I will definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for a new bicycle or to get any bicycle service. I scanned the reviews both good and bad. I don't have the knowledge to evaluate their repairs in detail but I have never had any problems with them. Their prices are reasonable I never noticed any gouging or upselling. My only criticism is that ever since I started using them I have felt a coldness on the part of the staff, as if they were too hip for me or too knowledgeable or I was too clumsy. This could be an age difference thing but it's an impression I can't shake and it's been consistent no matter the person that helps me. My most recent visit was no exception. I've been there a few times for spare parts or to get flats fixed in a hurry. Most of the time, the service has been great. I had one bad experience last May. I readjusted my seat before departing on a ride and realized it was too low, so I stopped in to get it readjusted. When I got to the service counter, Tech number 1 wasn't really interested in helping anyone, but managed to muster a "Can I help you?" Dude was miserable. I asked to use two allen wrenches to readjust my seat, which wasn't permitted, so he came around, raised the seat a bit, re-tightened the bolts, then went away without saying a thing. Tech Number 2 (who had helped us the week prior and was super cool) got a vibe as to what was happening and was kind enough to come around the counter after Number 1 had left, make sure it was a good height for me, and then he wiped the grease from the exposed portion of the seatpost. He also threw in a "Thanks man - enjoy your ride. No charge for this." If it wasn't for Tech 2, I would have never returned. Having worked in specialty sports retail for 15 years, there's no excuse for treating customers like that. If you're that hungover or miserable, fake it or call out sick. read more

Visited the shop twice when looking for a new road bike and received incredible service from John. He spend 20+ minutes with me reviewing what I was interested in, how I would be using the bike and what they had that fit the bill. Test rode one bike the first visit, and John offered to have a second bike assembled for a comparison ride later on. He called when the second was ready and once again provided excellent service when I returned. Due to other circumstances, I didn't end up making a purchase from the shop, but I'll definitely be gearing up in the future and will be keeping them in mind should I need any parts, clothes or repair services. read more

There could not be a better bike shop in Philadelphia. I was promptly greeted and taken around the store by a very pleasant worker. He showed me everything I needed and all the different price tiers with explanations of why some things were more expensive. Furthermore, he didn't try and only sell me the expensive things- I got honest input of what would be best for my needs. After I found everything I needed, he installed everything on my bike for me. The other workers in the shop were friendly and chatty while lights and non-quick release poles (yes, that's the technical name) were installed. This place is perfect. This is a really solid neighborhood bike shop. I always go in there with something little to them (which is of course huge to me as a non-bike expert), and they usually handle it and charge me nothing. As a result, I'm happy to funnel all of my bike-related business towards them. They give honest opinions on what you should do with your older equipment and I never feel like I'm being unnecessarily up-sold. These guys do a great job of fixing bikes, but BEWARE. They have a habit of doing unnecessary work. They trued my wheel, and when they returned it to me told me it needed to be replaced (worn rim). They tightened my bike headset, then told me it needed to be replaced. They replaced it, and did a nice job, but charged me for both jobs. Everything I have them do ends up being more expensive than they say. But they do a nice job in the end. read more

BT is my first choice for important repair work and safety-critical parts like wheels and brakes. I've been there many times in the last four years, and they've always done a professional job in a reasonable amount of time. As far as I can tell, their mechanical knowledge and attention to detail has been excellent. I've also never seen them be difficult or rude to customers, and they've never given me misleading price quotes. My only complaint: they'll often "up-sell" by suggesting expensive parts. To be fair, I think this is because most of their gear is high-quality, high-price stuff and my budget is, um, not high-end. But they also sell modestly-priced parts without being rude or pushy, so I think they deserve all 5 stars. Personal favorite: when replacing cassette & shifter cables, they actually adjusted the derailleur correctly! I do appreciate a well-tuned shifter :) read more

You can tell that cycling runs in the staff's blood here. A nice thing about Bicycle Therapy is the stools outside the work area so you can watch and try to learn as the mechanics fix up your bike. Bonus points for the cute pitbull that occasionally comes to hang out. Everytime I see that dog, he makes me miss my pit back home! The prices for repairs seem reasonable, and their bikes and accessories seem averagely priced for brick and mortar bike shops, but I wouldn't bet on getting a crazy deal here. The extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff is what you'll want to come for. They helped me out a ton when I was looking for a new bike, and even though I went with a different store, I still bring my commuter bike here for repairs, if that says anything. read more

Customer for life after my experience here. Even though I came in with a $300 dollar bike, I was treated with the same kindness and respect as the man next to me with a $3000 bike. My back brake had broken, and needed to be replaced. Dan, who was helping me, also checked my front break for me and adjusted it, for free. I know this probably took them less than an additional minute, but the gesture was above and beyond what I've heard others receiving at other shops. Walked out less than 15 minutes with a repaired bike and positive attitude. Dan is the man! Whether I'm buying an expensive bicycle or addressing a flat tire - they just always seem over-busy, understaffed, and not as good at communicating/not as patient as other bicycle shops in the area. They seem less eager to be helpful - like they're resting on their laurels a bit. Other people I know like them, and it varies by staffer, hence the second star. read more

This is my favorite bike shop in the city. They sell a lot of high end Specialized bikes but I'm just a middle aged beginner with a low end road bike and they treated me royally. This place is a joke. First I brought my bike in for popped tire that shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to fix, it took them 4 days. I probably would have never gotten my bike if I didn't call and ask them where it was as it seemed that they completely forgot about it. Secondly after I got off the phone with the employee Sam, he and all the coworkers thought it would be a good idea to make fun of my name saying "poor kid has it hard enough with a name like Hunter". The only reason I know this is my roommate was in the shop getting his tire fixed and overheard them. Once Sam was confronted about what he said he tried to tell me to just take the bike and not pay for it just trying to get rid of me. This shop is unprofessional, unkind, and I wish I can give them 0 stars. read more

I can't say I know much about bikes. I did call early on the day to inquire whether bicycle therapy had any road or hybrid bikes for $400-$500 and the man on the phone was acted like they had a bunch. Sure come in, we have a few we could show you. He even rattled on about a Jamis commuter, specialized vita, etc. etc. as if there were much more. Based on this information I was given, I hiked to the store that day (this is not close to where I live) only to find out that they don't have bikes in my range. The girl who helped me was polite and very nice. But the Jamis was something like $480/$490 and the specialized vita was $520. Nothing else. So when I called earlier, the person on the phone knew they only had two bikes at my max price range or more. I realize my budget is probably unrealistic for this higher end bike shop, but I would have appreciated more transparency and honesty when I asked about pricing. I'll end up getting the specialized and going over my budget, but I won't buy it here. read more

I'm no expert cyclist, but I know a great service when I see it. Went into Bicycle Therapy last week for a fit on the Novara Strada that I had bought from Craigslist over a year ago, riding it without making many adjustments. Naturally, my back has been killing me. The owner graciously installed the cleats on my shoes, then went to work. Even before I got on the trainer he adjusted my seat. Then he spent over an hour taking my measurements, fine tuning the bike, replacing the tape, and replacing my stem with a shorter one. My rides this week have been pure butter, an incredibly improved ride with no back pain. Can't say it was cheap (fits start at $75, and go up from there to include well-over-a-hundred fits that include serious guidance on biking form; tune-ups start at $60), but an incredibly professional and nice staff make it worth every penny. read more

On my quest for shoes to wear mainly at spinning class, Bicycle Therapy really helped me out. The staff is extremely nice, attentive, and accommodating. The staff took their time with me to answer questions, explain things, and to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. Some places seem to get annoyed when they find out that I am getting the shoes for spin class. Almost like I am wasting their time since I am not ready to buy a bike and use them for that or a serious biker. However, I did not feel like that happened here at all. The person helping me showed me the shoes I would want and what to stay away from, explained why the different shoes would be beneficial to what I wanted them for, etc. They helped me with my clips that I would need and installed them for me. They even told me to come back if I had any issue with anything being uncomfortable or if I needed my clips adjusted. I didn't feel like an outsider or an inconvenience here, I felt like a valued customer! I really appreciate the time he took (I was here for a while and had plenty of questions) and his willingness to help me since I really didn't know much about the product I was buying. It was also much appreciated when he made sure I could get the colors of shoes I wanted (because of course style is important)! I could not be happier at the service I received here! They're my go to place for flat fixes and other bicycle maintenance issues due to their quick turnaround and convenient location. There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, but I'll repeat it anyway: Bicycle Therapy is the best. When I first moved to Philly and started biking, they took a look at my junky old road bike and helped me understand the gears. When I was ready to upgrade, they listened carefully to what I wanted, then suggested the perfect hybrid bike. When I messed around with the build of my mountain bike, they fixed it without judgment. They also have a great selection of accessories and gear. Although I'm not an expert cyclist, I have a lot of fun with my recreational riding and commuting. It's nice for a shop to respect that without scoffing at someone who's not a gearhead, which has been the case elsewhere. When I finally buy my first real road bike (which will be happening at some point in the not-so-distant future), I will definitely be coming here. You should come here too. read more

The single biggest fear in going into a bike store is that one will appear uncool relative to the employees. This is inevitable... because the truth is... they are cooler than you. This doesn't mean they're smarter than you, or better looking, or even a better cyclist. And they probably aren't wealthier... because honestly, you don't get rich working in a bike store. But working in a bike store... or any boutique, specialty store... such as a record store, a head shop, a vintage clothing store, or a vegan grocery store.... in other words... stores on the fringes of societies dominant needs... these work environments don't provide riches, or fame, or even health insurance. But they do provide one huge fringe benefit that everyone wants, but are unwilling to pay the real price for... which is the power to be cool all day and night. One might ask... what is cool, and why should hipster bike store guys get to be cool. Well, if you have ask... you probably aren't very cool. Coolness never evaluates itself that way. Coolness is not self aware. Coolness is a state of being wherein the individual follows along certain social trends and adheres to certain group dynamics because they like how it feels. They buy into a lifestyle. Some lifestyles are understood to be cool, others are uncool. This is no different than buying into any lifestyle. For instance, let's assume somebody wants to be a lawyer, so that they can have status and wealth. So they go to law school, get a job, and work 12 hours per day to reach that goal. They enjoy status and prestige, and can go into any store and buy stuff. They are on top of the world. Given their position they can afford to be condescending, know-it-all, boring pricks to everyone else... BECAUSE they are lawyers. It's an unspoken reality that comes with that lifestyle. But then the lawyer goes to the bike shop with their credit card, and they want their social status to follow them in their like an entourage of boot-lickers. Instead, they are confronted with a collection of borderline slacking hipsters who don't seem to give a shit about weaseling money from THE SUIT. The lawyer immediately goes into the psychological equivalent of cardiac arrest. Underlying the shock of the moment is the presumption that wealth should trump all things in American life. Sure, these hipster cyclists dedicate their lives to all things cycling, and sure, they don't make much money, and sure, they ride hundreds of miles per week to maintain cycling careers on a shoestring income. But in the lawyers mind, all of that is irrelevant in the light of his credit card purchase. The fact that (in this situation) money isn't trumping actual lifestyle is shocking to all, and it seems like a mortal sin against the economic imperative of kissing the customers ass. Thus the meltdown that the phenomenally rich yet terminally uncool have upon encountering bike culture... which they cannot dominate with their bank account. I myself am not a cool bike store employee. I don't wear skinny jeans, trendy shoes, or have piercings and tattoos in just the right places (or any places, for that matter). I'm not rich, though I make more money than these guys, I presume. And yes, it pisses me off when I get an attitude dropped on my head at this place and others like it. But what is the alternative? To wish for servile and fawning store employees who step-and-fetch-it in a pathetic "the customer is always right" approach. Believe me, if you find a place like that, it's even more annoying than the worst bike-hipster dude. The Bike Line stores were like that... where the manager of the store had a Harvard Business School approach to customer relations. If you came into that place, they'd write up a work order ticket just to pump up your tire. Bike Therapy is a laid back place. Sure, they drop attitude here and there. Hey, they can't help it... they spend all day in skinny jeans and cool hair styles... how do they know how to act to those of us out in the "real world"... a "real world" dominated by boredom and bland conformity. We go the the bike shop for a shot of something different, then piss and moan when we get it. Here's an idea... treat a trip to the bike store as if you're traveling to a foreign country. Just enjoy the locals. Consider their snobby attitudes as simply a cultural affectation that you should take pains to understand, rather than as some behavior to condemn, least you become an ugly American in your own country. read more

This is, hands down, the best bike shop I've ever been to. Everyone I've met, whether in the sales or service department, is very helpful and patient, and always takes the time to educate me on the products and services. I have been going here for the last year since I moved to Graduate Hospital for various repairs and smaller purchases (though not yet a bike itself). Each time I go in, I am impressed with the level of service, the fast turnaround times, and the friendly, not-at-all-intimidating approach from the staff. And the owner's dog, Diego, is adorable and so chill. I attended their Roadside Repair class yesterday morning, and learned an incredible amount. The instructors, Josh and Andy, were very knowledgeable, yet able to communicate everything clearly to beginners. When the 2 hour class was over, I felt much more confident and empowered to do the roadside repair basics - take the wheels off, change flats, align the chain, etc. I was a complete novice when the class began and I so appreciate the hands-on, step-by-step lessons and their patience with all our questions. After the class, I had scheduled a bike fitting with Toby. I have been riding my Specialized bike, which I purchased from Craigslist, for about 9 months. While I've used it for triathlons and training rides, I never had it adjusted to fit me correctly. I'd only adjusted the seat's vertical position. Toby spent an hour measuring angles and distances, adjusting the seat, vertically and horizontally, and the handlebars, so everything now fits perfectly. I went out for a 30 mile ride afterwards, and felt more comfort and power than before. Five stars for everything, guys! Thank you! read more

I had a bike built up by these guys. Good job building bike except that they didn't identify that my frame had some off-traditional spec parts. Instead, they wanted to drill the frame out. Also, quoted me $50 for a bike build and ended up charging $80. Scary part is that if I didn't know more about bikes, I might have let them do some really questionable sh#t to my ride. read more

The shop had some select gear that seemed targeted towards hardcore spandex suit cyclists, not really a place to go for bike accessories like messenger bags. The bike selection was drool worthy and included a handful of sharp looking commuter bikes. I also appreciated their collection of silly bike bells, especially the one that was hamburger shaped. The price of a basket and installation fee ($20 for everything, and done in 4 minutes) was the best I've found so far in the city. At Bicycle Revolutions I think I paid $30 for the same basket with installation and they had to keep my bike overnight. I would definitely recommend and return to Bicycle Therapy. read more
