I took my bike in for a general maintenance and it took them 4 weeks to finish the work. And they didn't fix my brake levers right. I had to re-request that they fix my brake levers right. When I went to back in to pick up the bike for a second time they still had not fixed the brake levers right. This is a running shop and a part time bike shop. There maybe a mechanic on duty, but generally not. And there will be a delay to do any adjustments. read more

I have been a Mountain Bike Rider on and off for the last eight years. I had tried other bike shops in Napa throughout these years however, their focus generally is with cyclist rather than mountain biking. Until a few years back I finally stumbled upon these guys! The crew here delivers customer service that is second to NONE! And they are Mountain Bike savvy! Great guys, David and Eric. I just took my bike in there after not being ridden for a couple years and being exposed to the elements in LA. They were very nice and knowledgeable about mountain bikes. Did not recommend unnecessary extras but took care of business. Since I will not be riding the bike until I come back from LA, I told them to plan delivery for next week. Every time I've been here, I've received excellent service--even when they're busy and even though I'm an amateur. I ended up purchasing a more expensive bike than I would have because of their recommendation, but especially because they are welcoming, friendly, and seem very trustworthy. This isn't a discount store, but it is a locally owned business, and I'm glad to make my purchases here even though they aren't the cheapest. Next time I buy a bike from them I'll have to remember to go back and get my free 30-day tune up! I missed out this time around. Just moved to Napa & expected any sort of bike shop to be as overpriced as the rest of this town. However- I was pleasantly surprised to find Bicycle Works to be very reasonable- probably less expensive than where I was going before. Staff is always friendly & service is super fast (wheel trued in 1 day- I'm used to waiting a week for pretty much everything). When they needed approval to do a more technical repair they called to discuss my options before proceeding- & actually called. My experience w/ bike shops has been not so great (a little flaky, a little "we have more important things to do than actually talk to customers", etc) so I'm happy to have found Bicycle Works. read more

I have taken my bike twice to this store after finding something wrong with my bike at the Park and Ride across the street. The first thing I noticed is how convenient it is. This shop is close to a transit hub in Napa, making it easy to get to from most points in Napa. The next thing is how friendly their people are. Even though they are aware my bike is an inexpensive Huffy, they don't criticize the vehicle, unlike how other bike shops in the Napa/Solano area do. Their prices aren't bad either. For a tune-up, it would cost about 60 dollars in total, and items are usually inexpensive as well. For example, a tire tube usually costs four dollars, compared to six dollars elsewhere. read more

After waiting until the last minute we needed to have our bikes tuned up after they'd been neglected in the garage for almost 2 years, we called Bicycle Works and they agreed to take both the same day and have the repair done by the next morning (there was a different staff member who took the bikes on delivery and was skeptical they could finish so quickly, but they were in fact done by 10:30am the next day!). We had two Jamis Coda steel frame with flat handle bar bikes tuned up and had new tires and tubes installed on one of them. Tube prices are reasonable here but I got the tires from another shop a while ago and never got around to installing them myself. They could've charged me for a couple services I advised may be needed but they saw it was unnecessary and didn't up-sell or over-sell. That struck me was a good indication of honesty. My wife is not a bike expert but she was the one who dropped the bikes off - staff were accommodating and respectful without talking down to her as a notice nor pressuring her into addition services or things to buy. The price for the two tune ups and installing two new tires was just under $170 which was just what they'd estimated. They offered to call if the price was going to be over $200 but that wasn't needed. They have a good selection of bike rack parts which I thought I might need, but again they found a solution that saved me from needing to buy an extra item - very honest. The tune up itself was just fine, not great, nothing special, but got us up and running at the last minute. They didn't adjust the shifter cables (or if they did it was a poor job) on one bike, but it was okay going in. Otherwise the tune ups were as expected, solid B grade which was good given the short timeframe. I've been to The Hub for similar work and had similar experiences. Good to know we have a couple reasonably priced bike service shops in Napa, I'd go back to either of them happily. read more

Though I didn't buy from them, it wasn't due to a bad experience. Andre (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was very patient with me and helped me find a great bike! Today I thought I was going to buy that bike at Bicycle Works, but I didn't. I hope I made the right (expensive) choice! I have been coming here for the last 20 years. They have always treated me right and always done a good job. However this last time I brought my old 10 speed in that hadn't been ridden for 10 years. I asked for a tune up and wasn't too satisfied with the final job...HOWEVER...this bike IS old, so that could be the simple fact of it all. My tires don't hold air (even though the tubes were supposed to be replaced), the brakes aren't what I would consider good operating condition, and the gears are still klanky. I realize this bike is old so I am not slamming Bicycle Works, but I would have like to have been warned before taking my bike back. I ride to work and back in SF everyday, dodging cars, pedestrians and train tracks. Good gears and brakes are a NECESSITY here. read more

I got my first bike there in 1977. I was 7 years old then. I could have bought many other bikes since then from other places, but why? The customer service is second to none. They don't even have any advertising. It's all word of mouth. So, now I am using my mouth to say that I bought my last bike there and they hooked me up recently when a broken valve stem near the shop could have shopped my bike and ended my ride at any other store. When the crew there saw I was carrying groceries, they immediately put my bike on the stand and got me a new tube. I was out the door in less than 15 minutes! Awesome crew! read more
