The patty was falling apart and not shaped properly. Looked like dog food. My boyfriends burger was the same. Most of it fell on the floor. What a mess. Tasteless burger. Fries are good. My drinking glas had huge chunks of food all around the rim. Gross! I told the waitress. Yet still charged me for it. Service was slow but it'll their defence it was packed. I came here for a work event with my Department after an all day off site. To start off, really good location on Spark Street and the patio is really nice. Unfortunately, our party was seated in an area inside. Since it was a Department event, it was a set menu for everyone and a set drink menu for everyone to pick from. In terms of drinks, it is pretty standard for beer but don't expect good wine here for more sophisticated wine lovers (according to one of my co-workers). As for the food, everyone started with a salad, for the main I decided to try their Mushroom Risotto, and ended with a flour-less chocolate cake. I have to say their food is not very good. My Risotto tasted bland and definitely under cooked. I state under cooked NOT al dente. Also the portion for the Risotto was kind of small even to my standards and I am not a big eater. Service here was okay. But keep in mind, I was here for a corporate event, so not sure how the service would be like outside of a corporate event. read more

Fabulous food and the beer menu is pretty dazzling. I ordered the Double Chocolate Stout which I found lovely. Cheese Pot for a starter had the adults pretty dazzled but my teen & tween weren't enticed. My son's $7 poutine was rated a solid #2 in Ottawa, the size being the biggest hinderance. Additionally ordered delicious fries saved the day! T I ordered &shared the 72 hour short rib which was beautifully plated & the puréed cauliflower, carrot & asparagus garnishing was divinity. I can't wait to go back! Probably without teen & tween but to order & share with adult friends. This place doesn't really cater to kids & mine weren't even impressed by their desserts. Been here a few times now mostly for appies and drinks for they have a variety of beers to choose from. Hadn't had dinner and decided to finally try the veal schnitzel boy was the portion pretty big and it was delicious. My first....and last visit to the Bier Markt started with an attempt to make a reservation for lunch hour on a Friday. Apparently this is too low brow or uncool of a request as the man answering the phone implied. I was very curtly and rudely informed that lunch reservations were not accepted on a Friday. I attempted to inquire about general seating on the patio for a party of 8 when I was also curtly informed that they only seat parties of up to 6 on the patio. Not a great start. My co-workers and I routinely go to Sparks street for lunch. Our average bill is usually ~$100 2-3 times each week...and we are loyal to establishments that provide good service. Having been rejected in our attempt to book a reservation we decided to head to the restaurant early to secure spots on the patio, even though alarms were already going off in my head. Upon arrival we noticed the patio was 1/5 occupied at most with several 4-seat tables next to one another. We asked the hostess at the door if she could accommodate 8 people on the patio. We were then informed that a party of that size would have to eat inside because they refused to seat us in 2 adjacent tables. Really!?! So much for customer satisfaction. We ended up being seated in a fairly busy (high traffic) section of the restaurant. So service is lacking to say the least so far...maybe the menu and our server would be better. The menu had standard fare with nothing outstanding or special in anyway. The only option that was remotely entertaining was the Poutine Flight which sounded fun. I stuck with the "Vitagreen Salad" with chicken, salad being my usual lunchtime meal. The salad was overpriced at $18. The chicken was dry and flavorless, obviously overcooked. The salad itself was lackluster with an overly oiled dressing and blanched, or should I say bland, almonds. I would definitely not order it again. Another member of the party ordered the mussels; however, he was informed that they were not available. Lunch on a Friday (we arrived at 11:30) and they were not prepared to offer all the items they had listed on the menu!?! Again, really!?! The one saving grace for the establishment might be their beer which they had plenty of and a ton of variety. I went with a Vanilla Java Stout which was fantastic if not a bit overpriced. Our server, Erica L., was also very knowledgeable and friendly. Her service (unlike the other two employees I dealt with) was fantastic and flawless. All things considered there are better establishments to eat at in the downtown core and on Sparks St. itself. I would highly recommend D'Arcy McGee's on the corner of Sparks and Elgin. D'Arcy's is great pub with good food, good beer, better prices and above all else much better service! I will not be returning to the Bier Markt anytime soon. The poor service left a worse taste in my mouth than the bland overcooked, overpriced food. read more

Had a terrible experience this past summer with the manager. I have a serious allergy, and when my food arrived after having clearly told the server of this she was unapologetic. After waiting for a long time for the first plate I told her I didn't want anything. The manager came over and dismissed my allergy and tried to tell us that he could confirm no contact with seafood. We have visited this establishment numerous times before and each time were reassured that certain foods I could not eat. He told me the opposite and was unapologetic of the servers lack of awareness of what she served to me. He basically told me nothing he could do --- thankfully he eventually removed the dish from our bill but it was enough that we wouldn't support establishment again in near future. read more

I like their beer but would describe the food as unremarkable - particularly for the price . The space is well laid out and enormous. You'll never have a problem find a spot here. For its proximity and selection of beer, it's a good place for a meeting over a pint. read more

I love their crab dip and grilled smoked ham and cheese (which comes with a Swiss cheese fondue). Delicious!! One disappointing thing is that they do not have root beer. The place is pretty noisy, but food is served rather quickly at lunch time. The last few times I went at lunch (on weekdays), I went around 11:45am and no reservation was needed. Mmmmm Beer. Bier Markt is the latest beer restaurant/bar in Ottawa, and instead of making their own they focus on having a wide variety of beers. I came with a couple friends and we sat at the bar. The service was excellent adn the beer menus are really easy to understand, including explanations of the various beer styles for the uninitiated. Beer wise I had a really great dark lager from Brazil of all places, as well as an excellent ale from California and a Wheat beer from Ontario. All were excellent. My friends were also impressed with the beers they got from a variety of countries, including Estonia. The prices were fairly reasonable, especially given the selection, my only complaint is that the seemed to be out of quite a few of the beers on the menu. For food, I ordered a wurst board, which consisted of your choice of 3 sausages from "seed to sausage" a local sausage maker as well as 2 traditional German pretzels (the big kind), some cheese, and mustard. It wasn't cheap, but it was really tasty, all 3 of the sausages I had were excellent and it was more than enough food. My friends had a poutine and a schnitzel that they both liked. Service was good, but could use some improvement, I found that sometimes the bartenders were hard to find when I was thirsty. They were very kind and professional though, so no problems there. If Yelp could give 4.5 stars i would, but at the price point and the fact that they were out of a lot of beer then I can't quite give them a 5 star yet, but there is a lot of potential here. I was very surprised that I liked this place, especially since the reviews I read made me think this is 'just another beer place with average food'. How wrong I was?!! Mr. H and I had a good 5 hour wait till dinner but we needed a snack and a drink, it was hot out there! We got a table at the patio and I really liked the atmosphere of the place. In spite of the reviews the place was packed! Mr. H loved the beer selection, had two that he loved and since I don't drink beer, I opted for the beer cocktail (love those!). My beer cocktail was amazing! We also shared the Pastrami Flatbread which was so good that I actually wanted to cancel dinner and just eat here. I loved the food so much that I wanted to come back the next day for lunch but we were running late and hence could not. I'm definitely going back to Ottawa and will definitely be coming back to Bier Market. PS: Service is great! read more

We ate here last week after a long working day. We arrived at 7pm, and our group of 7 was seated within 2 minutes. The beer menu was pretty impressive. The selection of flights - collections of 6x 7oz glasses of various beers in a theme was expansive. I ordered a flight of mostly blondes, and was not disappointed. The food menu was limited but good. Its all german pub food, and a lot of the items are designed for sharing. I had the pork schnitzel, which came with gravy, green beans, mashed potatoes, and shredded cabbage. The german fellow with us said it was decent German food. It tasted good going down, and it stayed down when I worked out later that evening, so it meets my seal of approval. read more

This place has a particular bar atmosphere with a lounge in the back, lots of beer choices (as a bier market should) and several big screen TVs so you are essentially guaranteed to catch the game, whichever game it may be at the time. The booths are relatively comfortable and the beer we tried tasted quite decent. My three star review comes from a couple different aspects. The service was not fantastic as we were left at our table for quite a while before being served, waited quite a while for our beer once we ordered (it was not very busy), and barely saw our any staff after our beer arrived. The female staff were all dressed in very tight, short dresses, appears to be a dress code requirement and a couple of the girls didn't look particularly comfortable. Lastly, it was incredibly loud, even in the lounge area in the back, and it really was not that busy -the noise came from the many televisions and the few customers in the front; the acoustics don't do any favours for this establishment. I would go back with friends for a game night/bar experience but I doubt I'd ever be a regular. read more

Like many reviews before me I will say that their large beer selection is good, but their food quality is lacking. I had the calamari, which was small, dry, and tasteless. My main was the fish and chips which were also dry and forgettable. If you're looking for a drink with friends I world say go here, but if you're looking for dinner I would recommend that you pass. read more

The food was way way WAY too overpriced for what was being offered. My mom and I ordered the BBQ Chicken Flatbread ($16) and a sharing board with Bier-Cured Pastrami Salmon, Peri Peri Shrimp, Jalapeño Pack 'N' Cheese, Maple Roasted Beet Carpaccio, and the Crispy Brussel Sprout Leaves ($28). The best thing about the experience was the service. Our waitress was very friendly, patient, and knowledgable about the menu. However, the food took too long, even our waitress acknowledged that. The next best thing were the brussel sprouts. They were flavourful, and I like crispy sprout leaves, so nothing to complain about there. The rest of the sharing board was a disgrace. Portions were too small for the price of the board. The mac 'n' cheese was flavourless. The salmon was palatable at best. There were 3 shrimp. 3. The beets were sliced so thinly it made 'Carpaccio' seem like an exaggeration. Bread slices and mustard were included with the board, and they were probably the item with the most value, but still way too overvalued. At an average of $5.6/item, we felt robbed. The BBQ Chicken Flatbread was decent at most. It was like they bought the bread from the grocery store and forgot to put half of the toppings that they were supposed to. I can easily make something better at home for less than half the cost. Will not be visiting this location, or any, ever again. 1 star for good service and brussel sprouts. read more

The Bier Market is a great stop for beer lovers, wine drinkers, food connoisseurs, and mixologists alike. They literally have something for everyone! It seemed like the wait times for a table at dinner time was usually 20-45 minutes, but we just sat at the bar and were able to order beer and food no problem. The bartender was very knowledgeable about their extensive beer list and offered samples for anything we wanted to try. The food was phenomenal, I ordered the fish with frites and the boyfriend got a burger with fries. The fish was breaded beautifully and the Cole slaw that came with it was rustic and a perfect combination. The burger was cooked perfect and was delicious as well. Great stop in Ottawa! read more

This place is part of a Canadian restaurant chain that is really conveniently located in the middle of a big pedestrian street mall. It had a big crowd at lunchtime, while most of the other places around didn't have many people, so we took that as a good sign. There weren't any outside tables available, but we got a nice comfy table/booth inside. They have a nice sized beer and cider list - I got a gose from a local brewery that was probably the best of that style beer that I have ever had. For food, they were out of mussels, unfortunately. But I did like the sausage board - they have a couple of different "artisanal" sausages in different varieties, a big pretzel, small crunchy pickles and nice spicy mustard. It is listed as an appetizer but was plenty for a meal. The only real downside to the place was that things moved slooooooowly and we didn't see our waitress very much. Be prepared to be there a while, but the place does have a nice atmosphere to hang out in. read more

My friends and I were really excited to finally eat at The Bier Markt a few weeks ago. The thought of a couple of drinks and eats out on the patio would make for a fabulous night. When we got there, what looked like the manager and the hostess were eyeing my friends and I up and down. My three friends and I were quietly chatting and eagerly awaiting to be seated. Once we were seated, we had the waitress come over to our table to ask us about ordering drinks. After we had requested some time to look over the menu, she approached the table again to now accuse of us of being too inebriated to order and told us that we would need to leave and that she would not be serving us. I can assure you that my friends and I were incredibly respectable, quiet and we literally each had a cooler about 3 hours before we went to the restaurant - we were in no way showing signs of inebriation. Being almost 30 and really quite aware of our bodies and how much we should have to drink, we were flabbergasted that we were now being kicked out of a restaurant for the first time in our lives. The hostess was not only rude to us, but also let us know that she was a part of the decision making process for kicking us out. I will never recommend this place to anyone. We are not only embarrassed by the accusations but it completely ruined our whole night. read more

My friends and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. I ordered the pork schnitzel. It was awful.. I should have sent it back. The pork was over cooked..so much that I had to cut off parts of it because it was unchewable. Red Cabbage and Spaetzle were served as sides and were tasteless and dried out. The plate must have sat under a warming light for some time because both the Cabbage and Spaetzle were somewhat stuck to the plate. Awful! $25 for the meal alone.. Overpriced! The decor was nice. I can't comment on the beer, but the food is.... meh! I've come here twice. The first time I ordered the ahi tuna burger - it was OK, but the portion was small. The second time I ordered the Alsatian mussels and frites, and while the portion size was pretty large, I just couldn't finish it because it was just too salty! The service is quite good here. The first time I came, it was for my friend's birthday, and they let us bring in a cake. They even supplied us with the plates and forks. Way too expensive for lacklustre service, terrible food, and uncomfortable seating. I'm giving them 2 stars because they got the reservation right. 30c in July in Ottawa. Saturday 5:00 pm, at the height of tourist season and the place is steady but in not particularly busy. We were seven, seated at a very high, long, narrow table on high, uncomfortable tippy chairs. The waitress was just doing her job, in a word, lacklustre. She brought tepid water (no ice). When we asked for ice she brought one small glass. When I asked for more ice she brought one larger glass for 7 people! I'm guessing the management is trying to save money on ice. They did serve ice with my nieces' pop. My husband, m-i-l, and I ordered the fish and chips. The chips were over-cooked, soggy, and room temp. The fish was also room temp, and mostly heavy, greasy batter with about two tablespoons of cod cowering inside. The cod was ok once I scraped it out of batter. My sister's family shared a large charcuterie plate, which looked much better, but still pretty skimpy for the price. I didn't get a chance to ask her what they thought. The restaurant's "hook" is a large beer selection, which admittedly seems decent. But if you really want a fabulous selection of beers go to Pub Italia on Preston St and the food and atmosphere are infinitely better as well! In the end it was $18.00 for each plate of lukewarm, greasy, over-battered fish & chips, cod at that, not haddock. My recommendation: give it a miss. First time there. Bad impression right off the nut. I told the hostess id Iike to sit outside to keep an eye on my bike to which she curtly replied "We don't allow locking bikes to the railing". My bike was locked in the bike rack provided. "Do you see my bike locked to railing?" I replied. Guess what... the snot-nosed know-it-all Millennial attitude doesn't exactly win the restaurant points Honey-bun. The waitress as Ok, until (and I'm not making this up), at The bottom of my beer glass I discovered something about a cm long and skinny that resembled a Gold fish poop. When I rolled it around at the bottom of the glass, it broke into 2 pieces but didn't disintegrate. I showed it to the waitress who shrugged, did nothing, offered no apology or explanation whatsoever, and pretended like there was nothing in the beer glass. NOW i was angry. What IS it with these CLUELESS Millennial Servers?!! The proper response is "Oh no, I'm not sure what that is but I'll show my manager". Ridiculously bad service/experience. Disgusted, I tipped .50 on $25. When the POS machine asked "would you recommend us?" I answered No. There wasn't a button for "make sure not to serve a beer to a customer with what looks like a goldfish shit at the bottom of it". Zero stars. read more

We are in Ottawa to celebrate not only Mother's Day but a 65th birthday too and thought we would try the Biermart.Not quite what we expected..The beer choices are never ending and they pair food with the beers.We thought a brunch was in order something to hold us through the rest of our day.
