    Pretty cool beer garden
    Michael A.

A Chinese Beer Garden inside of the English Garden in Munich, Germany? Sounds pretty cool, right? It was. My friends and I took a stroll through the English Garden on a Saturday and enjoyed stopping here for a mass of beer and some snacks. Originally built in 1790, the Chinese pagoda-style wooden tower was destroyed during WWII, and rebuilt in 1952 to its original and current style. Admittedly, it's definitely showing it's age, and wasn't quite as impressive as it looks in some pictures. Still, Chinesischer Turm is known to be the second largest beer garden in Munich, with around 7,500 seats, so I'd say this spot is worth checking out. On the Saturday afternoon that we visited, the beer garden was pretty empty, likely due to a combination of the cold weather and Oktoberfest going on across the city. The beer garden had a decent variety of food to choose from, and of course, beer to help. If planning a trip to the English Garden, definitely stop in for a beer here. I recommend it.

I'm torn on giving this beer garden a 3 or a 4. I went with the higher score because it's not the food that warrants the lower score, it's the confusion of it all. The food and beer are in a "food court". You go through a turnstile and start hunting for what you want. The servers that are at each food kiosk are great. Friendly helpful, yet no nonsense and want you to hurry up and make a decision...THEN you go to checkout!!!!!! You better be on your game cause those cashiers do not mess around. They don't love you using credit cards cause I guess it slows things down and they are all about getting the masses through quickly. They then give you a token like you're suppose to know what that is for...which we didn't and man did our cashier give it to us in German!! Since we don't speak German our feelings weren't very hurt. :) But the kind, patient German speaking person behind us told us it was a token for when we return the beer stein to the return station we also have to have that token to get a two dollar deposit back that our lovely cashier added to the bill in case we took the stein home. I'm telling you this whole whirlwind conversation took place in about a two minute time span. HOWEVER. Beer was good. Food was good. The pretzel cheese was weird. You want it to be like pimento cheese (if you're from the south and know what that is) but it's not and I'm still not sure what it is. The pretzels on the other hand were AMAZING. 10/10. Seating is also overwhelming but we found a table pretty quickly. It's just a very large venue.

This place is one of those awesome sights you see. Specially when you're walking around a giant park all thirsty and famished. Come around a corner and viola!! Food, beer, tables and dessert all in one section. I'm not really quite a pro on German food. Nor do I know which is good and which isn't. I've tried the sausages in the states, but wanted to know the difference with the ones here. I had the Schweinwurstl with Sauerkraut,, it was pretty "EH". I also got the order of CurryWurst which was "EH" as well. The sausage I had in the states was much better IMO. Plus that currywurst was hella lackluster. Maybe next time I try their other offering. I might give this spot more stars. That second star is for the convenience and efficiency. Other than that, not very impressive. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps with your decision making experience. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!!!

When in Germany this is an absolute must visit. Pretzels you carry on your arm, beautiful atmosphere and great crowd. The food is great but the service area is very crowded, fast paced and confusing the first time. And there is no patients for confused tourists. And make sure you eat all your food! The man who cleans the tables made us flip over our chicken to make sure. Lol.

Nice Biergarten in the English Garden. It's a ways in. The space is large with lots of seating. There was a German band playing traditional music. The food and beets were good, they serve Hofbrau. We shared some sausages, potatoes a pretzel and a donut. Everything was really delicious. It definitely has a good atmosphere and is well worth a stop.

One of my favourite biergartens in Munich. It has a capacity of around 6000 people and during certain times of the year they can squeeze in almost double that. It is a good mix of locals and tourists that come here and, on a nice warm day, it can be pretty hard to find a seat. There are a few counters for food and drink and the prices are ok. During the summer you can also get the sommerbier and, this is not usually advertised. It's only available for a limited time and you need to check and see if they have it. There is a big kids play area and plenty of bike parking. You can take a bus directly to this biergarten. If you happen to be in the Englischergarten you won't miss this place. If you want table service you can go to the restaurant next to the Biergarten and, you will get table service and, a different food menu also. The food here is pretty ok and you get the standard Bavarian items. You are allowed to bring your own food if you so desire. This Biergarten is the location of the famous Kocherball each year (you can see my review and photos for this event on Yelp) in July. It's a centuries old Munich tradition and it's packed out from 3am to 10am which is when the festival ends. A distinctly Munich tradition enjoyed by the locals and visitors, in traditional wear, each year. This Biergarten is also home to a Christmas market each year. I love it here and, it is one of my favourite places to go during the warm months, with friends and coworkers. A must visit if you come to Munich. Prost !!!

Sitting outside on a beautiful October day, drinking an enormous beer and eating yummy German food...doesn't get any better than this. Our first beer garden experience in Germany but we studied for it prior to arriving so we did almost everything correctly, plus all the workers seemed friendly and used to stupid tourist tricks. So far my favorite beer garden in Munich.

Excellent authentic Bavarian food and beverage. Best beer we had during our entire two-week trip through Central Europe. Highly recommend.

Breaded veal schnitzel with sautéed potatoes and marinated cranberries. The cranberries kicked the flavor up a notch. So tasty. The soup was refreshing and I really enjoyed it. The bread was good as well. One of the spreads was obazda dip which I love. I thought they made it ok. We started with the veal ravioli. They were tender and tasted pretty good. I had the restaurant special which was basically a chicken pot pie. I thought it was good but I've had better. I thought the chicken was over cooked and the capers inside was a bit off putting to me because there were so many and made the whole dish too sour for me. It was a bit off putting. My friend had the fillet with white asparagus and potatoes and hollandaise sauce. It was basic but I preferred her dish. The dessert had strawberry and tarragon I believe. It was well balanced, not too sweet, and I liked the herbs with the dessert. They also had a nice drink menu and a good variety of wines. They did not let us try the wine before pouring it which I expected since this is a nice place. Overall thought the service was decent but not great.
