We dined here on two separate occasions while visiting Munich. It's one of our def go to places to dine. The weisswurst is so fresh and delicious and it wouldn't be the same without pairing it with their smooth weissbier. The veal schnitzel should have its own solar system it's so big. It was so moist and the traditional lingonberry sauce and lemon complimented it perfectly. Their potato cucumber salad is on point. They get busy but the tables turn over quickly. The staff wear the traditional blue and white of Bavaria and are extremely efficient. If you're not from Germany, you should know that other diners may join you at your table. If you're seated at a table for four and there are only two of you, expect other diners to join you when they are busy. The tables are cozy and inviting. Be kind and considerate and you'll enjoy yourself and maybe even learn a thing or two about German culture. Zum Franziskaner is a local and tourist fave for good reason.
Popped in this restaurant after visiting the Christmas market at the palace/residence. It's warm and cozy and the service was great. It's a great place to come in and get out of the cold and have a beer. The beer was excellent as German beer always is. I ordered the pork schnitzel with a side of mushroom gravy. The schnitzel was SO good. A very light breading and very tender. The gravy was perfect!!! Full of various mushrooms and not too heavy. The order also comes with potato cucumber salad which is a nice touch. My server was great and very accommodating. They have lots of tables so a good place for big parties.
I cannot say enough good things about Zum Franziskaner. It's positioned in an absolutely perfect location with a very large outside seating area for amazing views and people watching. BUT if it's too crowded outside please don't let that deter you. The inside is also very nice for drinks and dining. We did both. One day we stopped for drinks outside and another we had lunch inside. Both were great experiences. I do need to mention that we had dinner reservations at another place when we stopped in for drinks and because the Germans are not as time conscious as we are we did have to flag the waiter down twice. But that's on us...not him. He was very gracious once he knew we were in a hurry. And the day we had food it was really good. Best potato salad we ate on the trip. (And we ate a lot of potato salad!). Drinks, lunch or dinner this is a great place to go to.

The pork was tough and fatty, the sausage was salty and the salad was drowned in dressing. The place was old, which was to be expected, but not charming like you would expect in Europe. Hopefully we will have a better experience in the next few days. After all, it's ALL ABOUT THE FOOD, if the food isn't good there is no point in visiting. Now onto Hofbrauhaus, the oldest brewery for more beer.
Dead smack in front of Louis Vuitton in the old city center, this was a nice recommendation by our hotel concierge. As you enter you notice the traditional Bavarian decor ... The food is German pub fare but in a not so rowdy beer hall ... We ordered a couple of steins of beer and they were delicious ... Mom ordered roasted chicken and I ordered Weinter Schnizel and they were both good, sister ordered lake trout and she said it was great .. I must say the pretzels were nice and hot out of the oven and not too salty and the honey mustard at the table was delicious/ Overall nice and decent meal, nothing special; in and out in a hour which was what we wanted. Service was good and prices a tad higher but you are in the old city center so that didn't surprise us. Everyone we encountered spoke English and a menu in English were given to us ... a solid 6 out of 10 ...
Great food and great atmosphere! Only docking a star because our waiter was hard to catch and didn't actually ever bring the water we asked for (also getting the check took a really long time). My favorite thing was the shweinshaxe - crispy pork knuckle, it was so flavorful and perfectly cooked!
We came here for brunch. Had Weißwurst which came with one pretzel. The sausage is good and soft. Not too much flavor and the home made mustard is amazing. Semmelknödel mit Rahmschwammerl was ok: the mushrooms pieces are very few though. Service was good. They speak perfect English. Good ambiance: bright seating area and easy to carry a good conversation
We had a tasty lunch here. It's a huge restaurant and was very full near the entrance. We were happy to have been seated in the much quieter section further back. We each had a soup and a salad and then shared a kasespaetzle. It was a perfect amount of food for us. Everything was very tasty and fresh.
Stumbled in later in the evening our first day in Munich because we were starving and tired of looking around. The menu wasn't the easiest to read but we made due. Our server spoke passable English but not much - and we speak almost no German so he's doing better than we are! Still, he was friendly and we enjoyed our food. My mother tried some beer, I chose the Schnitzel with cranberry and potato salad. My mother chose to go even more traditional (is that possible?) and went with the brats and cabbage. We also had a huge pretzel and mustard to start. They had some dessert options that are probably pretty good but we were full from all the carbs of dinner. This spot is in a good location right in the center of everything and very near to the theater. If I remember correctly it's just across the street from the Tiffany and Co.
I went with a tour and the booked this spot for dinner for us to try. Environment: the decorations were nice at it had a very Bavarian vibe with the different coat of arms hung on the wall as well as other decorations. Staff: they were kind and patient as there were a lot of us! Food/Drinks: 1. I just got apple juice haha but my dad got a Radler and I was able to try. I surprisingly liked it because it was light and it didn't 'sting' my throat like other kinds of beer. It had a nice lemon flavor in there too which I think made it taste really good! 2. Salad was not bad, nothing outstanding. I don't mind the sourness but the vinaigrette may be a bit too much for some people. 3. Pretzel. The pretzel looked lovely but it was very hard and also very salty. Good with soup, I suppose! 4. I got the pork knuckle. First time every trying! It was delicious and full of tender meat! It didn't feel oily or heavy. It was very good and I hope when I eat pork knuckle in the future again, it'll be just as good! I'm not a fan of their "dumplings" which is just a ball of dough but it can be more filling and it can soak up the sauce. 5. For dessert we got a donut-like thing which was a sliced apple wrapped in a donut (that's the best I can explain haha). It was good because it wasn't sweet. I appreciate desserts here because it's not as sweet as the sweets I eat in the states. It was lovely and I could actually taste the nice apple inside! Great experience and delicious, even though there were many of us! I'm not sure about the price- specifically but when I looked at the menu, their dishes were reasonable since they give you great portions, too! read more
We stumbled upon this restaurant, after having a bad experience with another. We were being completely ignored by another restaurant, few blocks away. After we were told we can seat at a table. We caught on and left and walked until we found something and came to this restaurant. We loved the outdoor sitting area and the waiters and pretty much everyone was very welcoming! They helped us to a table and helped us with great food selections. The food was delicious, compared to the states. The salad was very refreshing with the meal. The chicken was pretty good and it was good with Kartoffelgratin. It was like a deal for 2 people that came with beer. The waiter talked so highly about it. So we ordered and we are glad we did. The waiter was very funny and friendly and made sure we were taking care of. The staff was amazing too! It was meant to be that we were ignored at the other place, because in reality this place was more us and better food and service. I highly recommend this place. Everything was so good and the staff is excellent! The restaurant and bathrooms were clean too! Definitely will come back. The picture below, peep the photo bomb! We only had two days in Munich, sadly so we didn't get to try a lot of places. From my time in the military in Germany, I came to love, Franziskaner beer! We stopped in for a light meal and ended up eating way more than we thought we would! The schnitzel may have been one of, if not the, best plate of food I believe I've ever had! The service was fast and friendly, and the restaurant itself was a long skinny beer hall with well lit seating! To boil it down; the dining experience we had here something that I think will live with me for a very long time! read more

Food was great Ambience is kind of to loud for my opinion but we went there after a Bayern Munich soccer game. Service was great at the beginning but we had to wait for our check almost 30 min. read more
Wonderfully atmospheric beer hall/ restaurant with a gorgeous "garden room" decorated in traditional Bavarian blue and white. We really enjoyed their Bavarian cuisine such as Weiss wurst, potato salad, sauerkraut and fresh warm pretzels. Highly recommend! read more

Honestly I am surprised by the low reviews. Service was efficient and outdoor seating was pleasant. They weren't packed and we didn't feel rushed. English and other language menus available. Our food was excellent - pork knuckle and sausage sampler. We were all very impressed with the pork as it was tender, juicy, had a crispy skin, delicious gravy and a wonderful potato dumpling on the side. For three people it was plenty of food. read more
Not clean.. I told our waitress there is no soap in the men's. An hour later there still was no soap so I told her again. Her reaction was an agitated: Tell a male employee! I am not allowed in the men's toilet! I told the man behind the bar. He said 'Ok' and an hour later there still was no soap in the toilet. Sure the kitchen staff uses another toilet, but it makes me wonder if they have soap.. The staff seemed to have too much work, but the food was delicious. I must add that both main courses we ordered were a little salty (really only a little bit). read more
We were in Munich for the Christmas markets and while we were walking from the Residenz to Marienplatz it started to rain very hard so we ducked in here for dinner. The place is huge and would be a fun biergarten in the summer. The food and the service were both good. We had the schnitzel, the ente (duck), and the wurst sampler. I'm not a big fan of either wurst or schnitzel, which my family ordered, but I thought that the duck which came with potato dumplings, gravy, and blaukraut was excellent. Our three meals with 1 soft drink, 1 beer, and 1 wine came to about 50 EUR ($68). This place probably gets many tourists as the menu was available in several languages however the German menu has many more items than the menu in other languages. The non-German menu seemed to be mostly wurst and schnitzel. read more
On our last night visiting Munich, we decided to get some Bavarian fare. After wandering around Marienplatz and the Victualient Market, we came upon this cute little resto. On the advice of a very friendly passerby who overheard us speaking English, we chose to eat in the courtyard beer garden at the back of the bar. A beautiful, romantic spot with stone walls covered in climbing ivy, the courtyard had outdoor heating which we appreciated since it was a cool night. Starting with large Augustiner weissbiers, we decided on ordering the crusty pork roast with potato dumplings in dark beer sauce and the sausage platter with sauerkraut and potatoes. My pork dish was plentiful but of less then average quality. A bit of a disappointment. My husband enjoyed his sausage dish, but he wished there had been more than 3 kinds of sausage. On a positive note, our waiter was super friendly and the service edit time was good. If we returned again, we would stick to just drinking beer and enjoying the ambiance. read more

I have to be honest food is very good here at least what we ordered. We had asparagus soup, mushrooms soup , Caesar salad and sausages. Soups are delicious!!! Service is strange. We feel that our waitress was not happy to serve us. She didn't smiles did not answer our questions about food, did not serve our table the way she served another tables were people speaks native German language:( . I will not suggest to go there, it is a lot of restaurants in Munich and food is very tasty in this city everywhere anyway. read more

Liverloaf! Despite the awful translation, it's quite good. Lesson of the day. An institution. A classic. If you are in Munich and looking for a meal of this variety (my friend described it as a traditional Bavarian meal) then you are in the right place. The service was outstanding, the food quite good, and the experience impeccable. My dining companion ordered me an English menu (they have menus available in many languages, so just ask) and so I was able to select something with a bit more knowledge than in previous dining endeavors around Munich. Sometimes this is good, but mostly I am an adventurous eater so I do not mind a surprise. Regardless, our server spoke perfect English. Probably better than my own. Ok, so what did I get? The Franciscan Duet. I'll translate it: Liverloaf (exactly like it sounds, it tasted like a loaf of very good bologna. That is not an oxymoron!)...resting on a pile of sauerkraut. Accompanied by three delicate smallish sausages. I added on a pretzel from the bread basket, and voila...a very nice Bavarian meal. All that was missing was a beer, but with this amount of food...water was all that could suffice. The verdict: QUITE good. Very good. Filling, but not overpowering. A nice portion actually, despite the weight of each of the items. Tips: *This is a very large restaurant with many tables. Some long and available to fit large groups, or I am told Germans like to sit together sometimes so feel free to sit near people and they will not think you are strange. *You seat yourself. Brilliant! I wish restaurants in the US were like this, it would really negate the need for sheepishly asking "actually, can I have that table over there, the better one that you know I must want?" with the hostesses. Besides the point, seat yourself where ever you wish! *The restroom is downstairs, near the back. I'll be back for a meal with bier. That's how you say it in German, see...I am learning! ;) read more
Two beer gardens, patio, beautiful inside, and great service. this is one of the classic examples of the big blue halls in Munich. I recommend you stop into it if the other ones seem overly crowded. It also helps if you like lowenbrau beer. I didn't try any food but I saw some pretzels and assorted other German dishes go by and they look fantastic. read more

When you are not adventurous, like me you book a multi city tour. With a tour, you get to meet people from all over the world on your bus! Now it seems that most people that book first class tours are from the ages of 50-80. You would think that with this age group, there would be more of a conservative attitude. Nope, these folks can drink! I've never seen people drink so much alcohol in my life! Let me clarify, I am not a drinker but if people drink, that's their prerogative. I was able to take some photos of beer and since Münich produces most of the beer the country drinks, I was able to take some photos of different beers. The dünkel or dark beer is not like Guinness. It's a much smoother taste than the lighter pilsner type. The food hear was really good, the veal sausage were slightly grilled and the potatoes had a bit of horseradish grated into it. The dessert was fantastic. Overall this place is solid and since it was Saturday Night, it seemed that everybody was out eating! So be prepared to face major crowds here on the weekends! read more
