Customer service me and my daughter came into the store to get some rafts the guy at the counter was nice greeted us but kept staring at us then some older white man came from The back to the front and was also staring never asked how we were but kept looking at us then there was a black boy bouncing a ball in the back who worked there and he just looked at us crazy never said hi either my items were already at the counter because it was a big box my daughter was buying water shoes and it was just weird and very unprofessional all black people dont steal I actually had my city of Sacramento shirt on mind you I just got off of work when we left the older white dude walks out just looking at us very weird could of said bye as hard as he was looking very bad experience I will never go back there again read more

Update , again they failed to comply with store hours. Will be my last time trying to shop at this store . I called to get a fishing license since sportsman warehouse was closed . I'm actively looking at the company websites he answers me and tells me yes that I can buy my fishing license but that id have to come in tomorrow cause there closed . Buddy just say you don't want anything to deal with for the last 30 mins cause it was 7:30 and the store hours say till 8:00 pm. Why 5 stars for Big 5 in Rancho? Simple. After making numerous purchases at this location over the last few years, I've been provided excellent service. Of course, when the store is very busy, there will be some wait times involved, that should be understood. However, when interacting with their staff, they've been pleasant, friendly and helpful. Big 5 has a decent selection of sporting goods yes. Are they a Sport Chalet, no. However, they have their own niche. The do have some very nice items for some very good prices. read more

Big location - slow service. I went mid day and hardly any customers in store. I understand employees get/need breaks but there were 3 people in back room laughing and not helping anyone. When one finally came out, I asked for help in shoe department and they said someone would be out soon. Finally got help - gave me a used pair of shoes. Had to wait again to get a new pair. I love this Big 5 it's easy to get in and out of. Although the parking at first was a little confusing I almost pulled into the wrong parking lot. Anyways they have good customer service and it's not a huge box store so it's in and out really quick. They also have good prices for ammo. read more

If I could give a zero star I would! 2 days ago my 3 children who are half African American walked into this store to purchase some softball gear for my 11 year old daughter. We were looking at the softball gloves that were in a glass case that was open and unlocked, trying some on to see which fit properly when we were approached by a male employee by the name of John, NOT to see how we were doing, if we needed assistant, instead to say in a rude tone. "I see you managed to get that open" (as of we broke into it) I apologized and expressed how it was already like this, and we were just looking for right fitting gloves. John still did not offer his assistance. He did however stand there watching us and our every move. As we continued shopping, John was continuing following us watching our every move profiling as theifs based on our looks. So much that he walked up to me after a while to ask me for the items I had in my hand to hold in the front. With confusion I gave him the items and asked why? Does he think we are stealing? John said no, however still took the items, after that he proceeded to come back to where i was to ask If my 11 year old daughter had the red belt in her hands still that she was carrying around because we were going to purchase it. I said she does. But now angry because clear as day he is profiling us, so I decided not to purchase ANY ITEMS, walking to the front to give the red belt my daughter had, I sat it on the counter and told John that he made my family and I very uncomfortable for following us and profiling us, as well as approaching us to ask for the items we had in our hands, and thst I will no longer return to this store ever again. John did not care, or take the time to say Hey that's not the case I am sorry. I did it for xyz reason, he simply stared at me and said OK! Sorry you feel that way. The rest of the staff just stood there and allowed John to treat us this way, and did NOTHING either. John made my experience a terrible one. He was unprofessional, rude, and down right jerk. Once we got to my car, my kids were very upset. My 11 year old asked me, Mom why did he think we were stealing? Is it because I am black? To hear my children say that, broke my heart, and angered me to my core. That was unacceptable behavior and NOBODY should be treated that way regardless of their skin tone. I will say I am not sure if he was profiling because my kids are mixed. However he most defiently was profiling for a reason! I have filed a complaint with there cooperate division as well, in hope that they take my concerns serious and make some changes. read more

The manager at this store has the worst customer service attitude out of all the employees. She is unknowledgeable, lies, does everything she can to not have you buy firearms. She tries to talk you out of taking tests, background checks, buying ammo and firearms. She would rather you go to Bass Pro Shops. She is uncooperative and lazy. The "Men Camping Trip" is in three weeks. So I needed to start to get all of my camping equipment in order before we go. Big 5 is cool because it is right around the corner from my house. I like going here for camping equipment and golf balls. I have this new cooking/lantern set up that I am waaaay too excited about. I cant even explain it to you because you would just stare at the screen thinking to yourself "what a dork". They have some fun/small camping items that you dont find at other stores with smaller sporting goods. I bought propane, lantern, batteries, hoses for my new waaay too cool set up, golf balls(my league starts next week) and a protein bar(I was hungry). The price was decent, but not great. Big 5 is a-ok. read more

I have a choice of two stores: the one on Arden or the one on Folsom in Rancho Cordova. They are both about the same distance from my home. I choose Rancho Cordova. Always helpful, greetings at the door, friendly and happy. I wanted shoes. I was asked, How may I help you? John did, we discussed shoes and the changing shoe size of this adult woman. He provided examples, and actually brought me shoes to consider and try on. Wow! At Arden, I must help myself and if I ask a question, I am a problem. Or if I want to try another shoe, a disgusting attitude overcomes the sales representative at Arden. That's why its Rancho Cordova Big 5 for me! The store culture is one of caring to help the customer. Everyone is nice. Thank you! I ended up buying 4 pairs of shoes: tennis shoes, and hiking shoes. Their prices are great and the shoes I purchased can also be found at the premiere athletic shoe store:Fleet Feet, for twice the price. Thank you, John and Matthew, for wanting to do a good job and helping this older woman with shoes. I would not have found help elsewhere. I bought a punching bag stand from this Big 5 and after struggling to put it together I realized that the main support brace was defective. It was slightly bent to the right side which made it difficult to put together as well as caused it to tip over when I gave it a left punch. I go to school near this location but I actually live in Elk Grove. I didn't want to take the whole thing apart and loads it into my car and drive the whole thing back if I didn't need too. Scott the manager remembered me and was extremely nice and helpful. He just opened another box and gave me the parts that I needed no problem. I buy a lot of hunting related merchandise and will now be spending my money at this Big 5 thanks to Scott! read more

The customer service was excellent. I was greeted and addressed right away. Even though I declined any help I was offered help in every department that I was looking in by a different associate. I'm leaving a 1 star reviews for big 5 sporting goods stores due to the corporate policy for not helping a customer who is stuck with a product that's not working but purchased driving back and forth 3 times and the corporate won't even help a customer with a simple refund due to their policy. Purchased a case of crossman co2 gas cartridges and 500 pellets. Inserted co2 cartridge into my barely used, used 8 of co2 cartridges in its life time which is fairly new, a crossman brand air pellet gun which was purchased at Big 5 sports good store a few years ago. A brand new crossman 5 of co2 cartridges and one cartridge came empty while the others were good and full. I tested the gun and the gun was working but I was not happy at the fact that one of the co2 cartridges came empty. But the store employee said they don't take used co2 cartridges but I told the employee that one of the cartridges were already empty before I got to use it. So the emoyee exchanged the whole case for me to a different brand, Daisy which I requested to avoid another defect or an empty co2 cartridge. As soon as I tried the first Daisy branded co2 cartridge, the gas started to leak. So, I took the cartridges back again and they were blaming the broken gun this time. As they tested out all the co2 that I purchased, they tested the gun with another co2 cartridge and the gas started to leak too. I was frustrated due to the fact that I was not able to use the 5 co2 cartridges but I came back home with 5 empty co2 cartridges which was paid for but used all 5 co2 cartridges to test at the store. So, I'm a customer who purchased co2 cartridges but the store emptied them out for me to test the gun out. Now, I'm stuck with a broken gun, all empty co2 cartridges due to testing at the store and 500 nonrefundable pellets. Called the corporate to see if I can at least get a refund on a $7 pellets that I'm stuck with. But the answer was a big "NO". So, I never got to use any of the 5 co2 cartridges but tested to empty at the store and I'm stuck with 500 pellets just because I wanted to test it out once. I think I need a refund for the pellets and the co2 cartridges that was never used by me. I'm leaving a 1 star review due to the corporate policy. read more

Tiny store. Good in a pinch. Have all the basics but probably not more than 1 or 2. Great sale on camping chairs for memorial weekend. Got some cool clothes on the clearance rack. No shoes in my size (biggest kids or smallest men's) since I refuse to wear women's running shoes. I like the width of men's. Staff was nice after constant questions. Shoe dude was awesome. Their selection of stylish shirts and shoes always surprise me. Even my teenager found a jacket thing. Just came from k-mart and the camping stuff was all at least a few $$ cheaper. read more

Stopped in here looking for an item I've bought in the past. A very simple sit up bar that mounts underneath a door. I paid $10 for it, and its time that I replace it. Unfortunately they don't carry this item anymore which is a shame. Instead they have fancy sit-up/pull-up bars that cost $40+. What happen to Big 5 being a good deal?? There was an employee near by to bassist me, however since they don't carry the item, and I didn't want to blow $40 on something I did t really want, there wasn't much he could help me with. The only suggestion for the store and management would be to better upkeep the store. It seemed very bad is organized with stuffed misplaced all over the store. Heading to Target and Walmart to look for the sit-up bar next. It's too bad, I was looking to give Big 5 my business. read more

I have shopped at this location since it was built. I have usually found a pair of sneakers I like. Yes, the store is small and requires a person to have patience with some of the staff. Today was not my day. With the help of a very friendly young salesman, I found a pair of sneakers comparable to the ones I already have. He was courteous and attentive. When he realized the only shoe he had in my size was the display, he quickly advised me to remind them at the counter that the shoe was a display and dirty. 10% is the normal discount for a situation like this. When i arrived at the counter, the clerk, looked at me like I grew a second head. She stated "DIRTY?" "I don't see what your talking about." Scott the acting store Mgr today, look at me and said "We never give a store discount on shoes that were used as displays." I guess being surrounded by store clerks makes someone overly confident????? I looked at him and told him that was a lie. I have had discounts before due to the show being a display. He told me that was not true. Scott is an idiot and has ruined my shopping at this store. Tomorrow, I will be placing a call to the corporate office and filing a complaint regarding this jerk. read more

This location is one of the smaller Big 5's that I've seen but they've had everything I've needed on my last few trips - the last trip was pepper spray and hydration belts for running. Today we spent about 20 minutes at the firearm counter and they were awesome, showing us about 6 guns. Bought some ammo and a cleaning kit. Found the firearm I wanted locally for about $70 cheaper so I passed on that but it was awesome how much time they took with us today. read more
