Old school comic shop, in the best of ways. I was out West and had a few minutes to kill before I had said I would be at my friends house. So.. I stopped in Phil's. It was an easy spot to stop in, plenty of parking at the outdoor mall it was in. Even though I parked right in front of it though, I walked into a packed house! There was easily a dozen people inside. It gave me flash backs as I hadn't been in a comic book shop in a while. The smell of old books, the muttering of geek talk about some new book or a classic comic, the younger kids tryin to read a comin and pretending they plan to buy it after done reading; all the fun tropes that come with such a store. As I hadn't been in one in years, I was pretty well turned around. I think the wall of books was alphabetical, but if it was I couldn't crack the code how it was. The fella behind the counter, who seemed to be the owner asked if he could help. I told 'em what I was looking for. Not only did he show me where the X-Men books and others were, but he had some information to share on all of them. He let me know where Marvel books were at these days (crazy different), and what cross-overs were taking place. It was a joy to stop in, to see some art and take in that nostalgic vibe. Hope to be by again soon.

They have a huge amount of space inside their store & they utilize every inch. I like how their sections are relatively organized by category, although it can get a bit overwhelming with just how much they have. Everywhere you look there's display cases loaded with figures & bookshelves filled out. They have the best selection of comic books in south Florida, by far. When it comes to quantity & variety they have a great offering. Horror, superheroes, sci-fi, anime; they have some of everything. They keep a nice stock in their weekly release section & carry a lot of sought-after series. While they don't carry every cover variant, they do a good job at having at least a couple for most issues. The workers are usually pretty friendly. They offer help looking for items in their massive store & will point you in the right direction if you have any questions. I've never once had a bad experience in all the years I've been visiting. As good as they are, I have 2 complaints. First off, they're sometimes a bit overpriced. Whether it be an action figure or certain comic, there's been times where I've found them pricing things $2-$15 over market value. While get it's a business, I hate finding something here only to realize I can get it online cheaper. I'm ALWAYS for supporting local businesses but unfortunately it dissuades that. Lastly, sometimes I'll look for a series to start & they'll only have issues #2 & on. While it's not that big of a problem, I always grab issue #1 before any others so this'll cause me to skip out. Usually, however, this doesn't happen often. Overall, Tate's is the place for all your comic & collectible needs. There's not much more to ask for considering their good service, up-to-date selections & large variety. Also, be sure to check out their art gallery upstairs. They carry tons of stickers, prints, originals & crafts from local artists!

They also have shelves that are yellow and red and those prices go for $3 and $5. There are many different things to choose from and you can definitely spend a long time looking through everything here. They also will buy your comics and antiques as well as sports memorabilia! The staff is super friendly and will help you find something if you may be looking for it! I hope to be back soon :-)

From the outside it doesn't seem too big but you quickly realize how much space they're working with when you step inside. They're filled out wall to wall with comics, collectibles, figures & even have a RPG space set up. I've been to stores that heavily favor one category like super heroes, for example, while leaving all the other genres hanging. PPF however, has one of the best selection of varieties in my opinion. They're loaded with DC, Marvel, TMNT, horror, manga & also carry some niche ones. I also appreciate how they stay up to date on weekly & monthly releases with a section dedicated to them. Prices are solid & they often have a couple limited/exclusive variants. These are a bit overpriced but sometimes it's better to get them in person & support local rather than online & deal with shipping. Years ago, customer service was a bit iffy but recently it's been nothing but great. They greet you right away, have no issues answering questions & act like they appreciate your business. This is a great place to check out if you're a fan of pop culture, comics, figures or books in general. It's really hard to stop by & not leave with something in hand.

They maintain a nearly full stock of current releases no matter the day of the week. The staff are also SUPER sweet, had a lot of great suggestions. A note on the low reviews: I came here before and had the chance to talk to the current owner, the shop has come under new management, so don't let the low reviews scare you! This has genuinely been one of my favorite comic shops in South Florida so I definitely recommend checking it out. Also I know they do challenges for free items on their instagram, so if that's something you're interested in - I'd really recommend following them! Happy shopping, friends~

The merch was easily visible in multiple sections of genre. Im gonna bring in some of my vintage Marvel action figure collectibles for an appraisal and hopeful sale. The comics from the 1980s were competively priced for their condition and rarity. Center store there was a display case of retro pinback buttons provided a quick flashback of the past. This was the kind of store where you could easily lose track of time! Definitely recommend a peek for all collectors or unique gift ideas.
