Drove by and saw the word Comics in a plaza on West Atlantic Ave and made an abrupt U-Turn and pulled in. Entered the store and saw an oddly tall calm guy grading comics and with a quiet hello I started browsing the 70's and 80's comics in a decent sized section at the front. Definitely found a few nice comics and were pleased that the pricing was realistic. Lots of Captain America and Fantastic Four which were my favorite superheroes in my massive collection. read more

Great comic shop -- if your looking for a no frills no anime no tons of toys etc etc just comics - new, old, graded , raw, big publisher, small indies , trade paper backs, hardcovers , omnibus , even dollar bins with some great selections---- Of course you can go to "the big shop" in the area- which is a great store as well-- but this shop reminds me much more of the early days of that store-- when it was small run where only a handful of employees work there and tons and tons of comics with some Japanese Manga. The service there is the best, the prices are very fair, the books are graded accurately, and the staff is not only highly competent in the knowledge of comics, they are also very friendly and honest, and make for a very inviting and casual experience. I live down the street from this place and have been going on and off for most of my life but recently I have made this my only brick and martar - go to store (that isn't online) and I''m glad I have-- it's made me find that love of comics the art and the stories again, and keep interested in them, and enjoying reading them. I couldn't recommend it enough- make sure you visit Phil's Comic Shoppe - much thanks BTW- The one lady who commented on here and said they didn't want to help and were rude and kicked her and her young son out...I dunno if this lady actually visited the store or what happened-- but certainly doesn't sound like this store or the two guy who are always working there-- yeah they are kinda quiet if you don't go in regularly but in a way like --"non pushy not trying to sell you stuff and make money salesman kinda thing" vs "rude or unwilling etc" but even then they always great you and make sure to ask if you need and help finding anything or any questions just let them know and they are there (literally either organizing or at the counter usually) it's not like they disappear into the back room and take a nap I would really ignore that comment and not let it influence you and your decision to come here-- it only takes one person to ruin something sometimes...unfortunately ( I only added this because I noticed people "liking" or "loving" the comment and marking it as "useful" -- it is not) read more

Old school comic shop, in the best of ways. I was out West and had a few minutes to kill before I had said I would be at my friends house. So.. I stopped in Phil's. It was an easy spot to stop in, plenty of parking at the outdoor mall it was in. Even though I parked right in front of it though, I walked into a packed house! There was easily a dozen people inside. It gave me flash backs as I hadn't been in a comic book shop in a while. The smell of old books, the muttering of geek talk about some new book or a classic comic, the younger kids tryin to read a comin and pretending they plan to buy it after done reading; all the fun tropes that come with such a store. As I hadn't been in one in years, I was pretty well turned around. I think the wall of books was alphabetical, but if it was I couldn't crack the code how it was. The fella behind the counter, who seemed to be the owner asked if he could help. I told 'em what I was looking for. Not only did he show me where the X-Men books and others were, but he had some information to share on all of them. He let me know where Marvel books were at these days (crazy different), and what cross-overs were taking place. It was a joy to stop in, to see some art and take in that nostalgic vibe. I've been coming here since I was a kid, heard that Superman died (in 1992), and had to see how that was possible. 32 years later and I still find myself coming back to my one and only spot! This is a great little specialty comic book shop I stumbled into on the road while looking for something else. If you're looking for Comics, this is the place to go. Wall-to-wall, and Florida ceiling, every available space is filled with comics. They appear to have both all of the new Comics, as well as a big selection of used and back issues as well. If you're a collector, this would be a great place to go to add to your collection. On this particular trip, I was looking for Funko Pops, which they don't sell. That being said, the gentleman working the counter was super friendly, and even willing to offer up a couple of other places in town or I might be able to find what I'm looking for. read more

My partner and I found Phil's around 4 years ago.I,m not a pro comic collector. I have been in the store with my partner many times. Ron has 6K comic books from bronze age and everything in between Phil and his colleague at the store is the most honest and knowledgeable .This is the real deal. I have been to comic book store in Hong Kong to Sydney,NYC to Michigan and every where in between. If you serious about finding any issue to complete a collection Phil will have it.If you wish to sell some books, This store by far is the best place for an honest deal.I have been to "T" on State road, in Floridia. This place was truly a waste of time. Arrive there with my son looking to spend some good money for his birthday. The guy was incredibly anti-social. Was near the graded books showing interest, and he wouldn't even ask can I help you guys. The store is big enough to accommodate 3-4 customers comfortably, but he states after not even 5-8min, You have to go, I have an appointment and you need to go because he only allows one customer at a time. Great place... a huge variety of comic books to choose from all at a fair price. I got some stuff that was mostly under $5 each while there were other things for more. The owner was very helpful and willing to help us look for items and to look around. read more

I tried some of the big name stores and they made you feel like they doing you a favor for you spending you money at their store, then I took a chance on this small store and it has been the best decision I made. I've been coming here off and on for close to 30 years. The formula is simple and has remained the same. Know your product, be customer oriented and actually have a good inventory of back issues. No, this isn't a so-called comic store where you come to cosplay and play fantasy card games. This is a comic store where you come to complete the childhood collection you've been working on while getting all the new stuff. It is stacked to the gills with boxes of old stuff you will be overwhelmed when you walk in. The staff is so knowledgeable to let you know if you are needing anything based on what you are asking about or buying. They are always getting new, and by new I mean including back issues, and will let you know if whatever you are looking for is just in or coming in, if you didn't happen to find it. I live quite far from Phil's Comic Shoppe (over 35 miles), but I still go there because it is the last of the "expert" comic book stores left in South Florida. In other words, I can ask Phil to look at a 60 year old comic in my collection and give me his expert opinion on its condition and value. Most "Comic Book Shops" nowadays have no knowledge of Golden age or Silver age comics...they just sell new and slightly used comics from the past several years and have no interest in anything past that. I started going to this shop last month and am extremely pleased with my experience. The owner and his partner are very knowledgeable and conversational. There is a huge selection of comics to go through and the prices are very reasonable (as well as their grading too). This is South Florida's best kept secret for comic books.
