We usually come here for their Indian desserts. The dessert counter is on the right side of the entrance. I usually avoid very sweet things. But their desserts are an exception. I don't mind their sweetness, because they are very rich in flavor - whether nutty, coconutty, milky, or fragrant. The staff are very nice, and the kitchen looks organized and clean. Most of their desserts don't contain wheat. A staff member told me the dry fruit halwa contains wheat. Since they rotate their items, it's best to check with them if you are gluten sensitive.

Great supermarket that carries a little bit of everything. Very clean. Limited produce section but has the necessities of fresh veggies one needs to prepare dinner. That said, we were specifically looking for eggplant for a dish we want to make and they have 8 different types of eggplants. They win!!!! They have some fruits as well. Looks like the also have a little kitchen/deli that sells sweets and savory items. We didn't get to try it this time but look forward to exploring their menu options when we return.

Please avoid this place…read more They sell bunch of expired and not good stuff. I was looking for lavash/ wrap an I purchased two, one made in Turkey and one from Latvia. I opened it 3 days ago and look at mold all over the bread. Also it was all breaking apart which was a reason I could not make some veggie wraps. I bought it on 2/14 afternoon. There was a date on one exp in April and the other one did not have any date on a package. $10 for both went to trash. Sadly it's not the first time I get rotten or spoiled product. I would not recommend! Service is hit and miss . They treat Muslims better for sure. Not going to support such a business with poor customer service and poor quality.

A lot of the canned stuff, like different types of beans, isn't really any cheaper than what you'd find at places like H-E-B. Fruits and veggies looked pretty standard, but the prices were oddly higher than in regular grocery stores. They do carry some interesting sweets, and I always enjoy checking those out. Coffee, though, was more expensive compared to other international stores I've been to. What really stood out in a bad way was the attitude of the staff. No one was rude exactly, but they act like they don't really want to be there, and definitely not like they want you to be there either. Product-wise, no complaints. But the vibe from the people working there? Pretty unfriendly.

We attended a drama that was sponsored by the store (see attached photo) and the experience was horrible. The event was badly managed by Hamir (the owner) and everything about it was 3rd class under his management: - Bad venue/neighborhood - No parking facility - No auditorium - Worst seating arrangement in a stinking hall; No chairs for seat numbers and tickets sold to us. - No respect for audience's time - Show started 1 hour and 20 minutes late. - Horrible audio - dialogs were simply not audible. - Poles in hall were blocking audience's view of the stage - Nobody understood Sanjay Goradia's dialog because the actor had bad throat issues. - Tickets were overly priced and sold at 50% discount at the venue Show was not worth going to even if tickets were free. Our group of 15 people left before intermission as it was a waste of time. And we all reached the conclusion that we will avoid all events brought by Manpasand.

I come here for their selection of onigiri, natto, miso, kombu, bonito flakes, tofu, nori, togarashi, furikake, Japanese curry, sake, Japanese beer, sweet rice cakes, ramen, and just looking for something fun I've never tried before. Just be sure to follow the directions when opening an onigiri so it will stay in one piece. But oh those are so good. I even like the one that's basically just rice, seaweed and mustard greens. How they make something that simple taste so good, I'll never know. The layout is well-organized. Aisles, refrigerator and freezer sections are each relatively small, but packed with options. Each aisle I walk or door I open is an adventure that I spend a few minutes on, and I still discover new delights every time I visit. The staff here is nice, too. One lady walked me through their natto options very patiently. One was giving free samples. And the sweet lady checking me out at the register must have said Dōmo arigatō a dozen times during our brief transaction. One ingredient I bought reminded her that she needs to pick up the same for herself as she's making char siu tonight. And now I'm online looking for char siu recipes because it turns out I have all the ingredients; I just need the pork. I drive an hour each way to come here, but its totally worth it! My trip out is filled with anticipation an my trip back includes onigiri. Then I get home, put away my "haul," open an Asahi Super Dry and then I cook up a delicious Japanese meal :-)

This week's flavor was Red Bean and Matcha, and HOLY WORD-I-SHALL-NOT-SAY... this absolutely blew me out of the water. The red bean and matcha balanced each other so perfectly, and somehow tasted even better swirled together. Both cashiers were super cool too (was that Japanese I heard them speaking?). The guy with the awesome silver hair mentioned he was also from Houston, and we somehow ended up talking about how Austin's Asian scene just can't compare to how insanely diverse Houston's is. Still, it's always nice connecting over a mutual love for a great Asian environment--which Asahi definitely is. Wow--I've been here for 15 minutes, and I already have so much love for this place. My phone is literally dying as I hastily type this, but I felt obligated to spread the gospel immediately.
