Kalakand had fungus and rice had black insects in it. The manager Binta refused to take items back without receipt. Even when I showed credit card transaction, she refused to acknowledge. No apology or remorse. She also said that I was wasting her precious time when I told her to find a way. She told other assistants not to help me as well. She told me not to raise my voice when I was putting my case forward. When I came back to the store after finding the receipt, it was to my utter shock that there is no refund, even with receipt. They offered store credit only. I did not want to buy anything from this store but had to if I wanted to get reimbursed. No apology again for expired stuff. This did not happen before. Sanjay ji, the earlier manager, would quietly take expired stuff, apologize and give you refund or replace as your wish. They should post their changed policies in bold somewhere in store and learn some customer service. Never again am I shopping there and am highly disappointed with this place read more

PATHETIC PLACE!!! to start with. Almonds were expired n the oats are an year old. Oats are stocked rite in front of the register and still an year old and unnoticed. Almonds had "LIVE WORMS' moving inside it. When I spoke to the ladies at the register, they were like very rude and said that is how they sell their products. I got the managers number from other sources and to my surprise he never got back even after ive sent him the pics. Seems like they wanted to carry the culture of selling outdated goods. As long as you're looking for Asian - particularly Indian groceries - this is the place for you. It's got almost everything you'd need for cooking Indian food (especially on a daily basis). Pickles, spices, rice and ground wheat , Indian cookies, snacks, vegetables et al. There's also a good selection of frozen and refrigerated products - stuff like samosa, roti, naan ... They also carry organic lentils, organic Indian yogurt, organic panner and organic rice. There's rotis, dosa batter and homemade pickles (yum!!) available in small batches made at "curry in hurry" - really reliable. This store is a lifesaver for me and all the rest of us Indian folks. read more

Wonderful gem of a place that's hidden behind a mediocre McD's and gas station. Be sure to inhale as you walk in the door...yes, that's everything from garam masala to freshly ground cardamom you're smelling. Heady stuff. The GB has a fantastic selection of Indian cooking ingredients, an amazing selection of rice, and a galactic-sized snack-foods section. Anyone up for pepper-banana chips? This place was really fun to visit today. It has been at this location for a few months. They have everything you could imagine for your curry, dal, rice, and other Indian specialties. They have a large frozen food section with many tempting dinners to choose from. I will try something from their next time. The owner was very helpful and showed me where all the spices were located. He also explained the different types of legumes they carried. They have a small amount of fresh veg. but not much to choose from. While checking out he offered me a samosa from Curry in a Hurry. It was the best samosa I have ever, EVER had. I will be going over to Curry in a Hurry to try their meals soon. I am looking forward to returning! read more

Really close to the house and a nice place overall to get some good Indian ingredients. Pretty helpful staff, but there can be a language barrier. They carry a wide variety of spices and mixes to make Indian food, and a great selection of pre packed curry mixes (what we LOVE). After a weekday lunch just a few doors down, we decided to check this place out. I waited far too long in life to try Indian food, but now that I've tried it, I love it. And fortunately my wife can cook it very well. The lady working the register was extremely nice and she came over to us in one of the aisles and asked if we had any questions or needed any assistance with the choices. Very nice and much appreciated. The spice selection and prices were very nice. We bought several spices and used them in our latest dish a couple of days later. We could tell the difference in the freshness, flavor and overall spice of these ingredients compared to what we had bought previously at other places. We will definitely be back to reload our pantry for the next Indian food feast. read more

Item availability - good Freshness - just okay Service - abominable (borderline rude, painfully slow, check rings up wrong if you don't keep an eagle eye on the register!) Good Indian grocery store. They carry raw peanuts during peanut season. You will not find raw peanuts like this anywhere else in the greater austin area. Usually when places say raw peanuts they just mean old peanuts. Its too bad that these peanuts are only available during season. The price is about $3/pound so not bad for such a rare comodity. Most people think of dry, stale, tasteless baseball game style peanuts when you hear of raw peanuts, but you just haven't had actual raw peanuts before.. read more

What can I say? This place is great and convenient to those living or staying around FM620 @ 183. They are right next door to the OLIVE GARDEN and McDonalds/Chevron. When staying at the Holiday Inn across the street, I always stop by to get my Black Tea (Ahmad Brand is Delicioso). On the weekend they have prepared foods for sampling and purchase. This is my favorite 'go to' place for ethnic Indian organic groceries . What makes this place so unique is that they have their own factory in Austin and 90-95% of what you see in the fresh produce and ready to use stuff including the snacks, sweets is all freshly made daily and priced extremely well. I love cooking Indian food and there are a lot of ingredients that can only be found in an Indian grocery store. I usually get dried beans (all sorts), spices, rice, ghee, panir, curry leaves, and candied fennel seeds here. The staff is friendly and eager to make sure that you find what you are looking for or suggest something new. read more

Indian market has great variety and well maintained, clean. The samosas that customersay purchase at the counter are AMAZING. Although, do wish the chutney they offer with these samosas, were fresh inshead of prepackaged. Although I haven't tried the baked goods also available at the counter, they look fresh. read more

I've become a big fan of the GB brand sauces and masalas. I have to control my blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. The staff at Gandhi Bazar are very friendly and have an extensive selection of foods and wares. The produce is fresh and the staff are willing to take the time to explain how something should be cooked. This is especially helpful with GBs delicious, refrigerated meal starters. Most of these are just add meat/vegetables/rice and you have a great meal in practically no time at all. The spiciness of these starters is just right for a product of it's kind: a solid platform of flavorful heat with room to add more chilies if desired. I heartily recommend them. read more

One of my favorite Indian grocery stores till today. Bought some "dhal" from them recently; when using it for a recipe last night, found it full of "weevils". Took the dhal back for an exchange, sometimes a certain supplier can send tainted foods unknown to store owners, I didn't have the original packaging or receipt, the clerk refused my request, though I have been a frequent customer, didn't want my money back, just a different bag. He was rude, said without original packaging or receipt, no proof I bought the item at this store. Guess customer service isn't important to them. I was going to buy other items too, but now I will never shop there again. They got my $$, but I got no product. read more

The dals are not of good quality... but there are not any good indian stores in north. So we have to stick to this.. Other than that I have seen that these guys get things from other stores like costco and they re-package it.. I have seen kirkland brand products like almonds, quinoa which they use for repackaging.. read more
