I had a tire pressure sensor come on our car while here. I tried putting air in the tire at 7/11 and it did nothing other than take my three dollars. My wife saw this place on Yelp so I drove our car there. The shop is small and easy to drive past if you aren't paying attention. I walked inside and the owner/ manager was on the phone with someone. He advised me to wait and I did. He told me his tire guy was at lunch, but I could pull the car to the bay and was welcome to use his air. I used their air with the pressure gauge and my tire filled up. He told me if you use 7/11 it will just drain air from your tires. He didn't charge me anything and I was so grateful. Someone could have easily taken advantage of me, especially being from out of state. Based on his honesty and integrity I would highly recommend this place. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! They will take your money for diagnostic, and then parts you don't need. Then they will tell you they can't fix your car, "you have take it to the dealership for that." and "we can't do this, take it to a tire shop for that." and still want to charge you $550 even though they didn't fix anything, can't fix anything they can diagnose. Then when you complain they will tell you "Talk to the boss on Monday", hang up on you, and hold your car for ransom. read more

Danny is awesome! Found him through yelp and didn't disappoint... actually all the guys in the shop seemed super nice, helpful, hardworking, the list goes on.... Tried coming up the mountain for a vacation... And like everyone else my car starts shuttering. (WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE?!?). We actually decided to bring our newest of three cars (2017 Jeep with 40k miles) bc this happened to us last time!!! This town has zero alternate transportation, our Airbnb was booked so we couldn't extend, and we ended up renting a fricking uhaul to check out (you can't make this stuff up!). He was super helpful in getting it repaired as quick as possible. We couldn't quite pinpoint my cars problem, but he fixed exactly what my computer said was wrong, and it was good enough to get us home tonight. With two kids and two dogs I am beyond thankful for all of his help. It for sure made for some interesting memories! On my way up to Big Bear yesterday, my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee started misfiring and I was concerned I had a major problem. The first place I stopped when I got into town said they were booked solid and couldn't fit me in. They recommended BBAR. Thankfully they were able to get me in right away. I dropped off my jeep and walked up the hill to get a few runs in at Snow Summit. By the time I finished my second run, I got a message that my Jeep was ready and it was just a calibration issue and it was good to go and just charged me the diagnosis fee!!!! Totally grateful they were able to help me out! As it turns out the drive home to LA took about 6 hrs due to traffic and snow. Been meaning to leave this review for some time (like a couple of years). I'd lived in Big Bear for quite a while before visiting this garage. I went there because of the great reviews. I'll just state the facts, so you won't make the mistake I did. I wasn't feeling well, not on the ball (though I was courteous, friendly). I was waited on by a youngish fellow, with an air of authority, (not the one with the white hair in the pics). He didn't wait on me immediately or acknowledge me, so I took a seat. After a few minutes he asked "Do you need help?" Why else would I be there? I told him my car wasn't accelerating as it should, plus I'd like an oil change, an overall maintenance check, fluids checked/filled, wiper blades, etc. He asked a few questions, and quoted rates- he seemed distracted, impatient, bored or possibly put upon, like he had more important things to do- he verged on rude. While waiting on me he answered the phone, talked to others who stuck their heads in the door or came in with quick questions- with THEM he smiled, exchanged pleasantries, cracked wise, etc., and then returned to his former impassive, testy self with me. It actually hurt my feelings, I should've left right then. He said they'd check it out and give me a call, but I didn't hear from him, so called late in the day, and was told it was done (!). Work and parts that I hadn't approved had been performed/ installed, and to make matters worse when I picked up the car, and asked about warranties on said work and parts, he informed me that the discount parts weren't warrantied, they were the cheapest available (as though I'd be pleased with that). I would've questioned that if I'd had the opportunity beforehand, I want the best, the safest, options for my vehicles. I DID have a problem shortly thereafter with a defective part and went to Phil's- the difference was like night and day- indeed, the parts received at Big Bear Auto Repair WERE warrantied by the manufacturer, presumably BBAR just didn't want to deal with it if I had a problem. Phil's researched it, handled it, NO sweat, and treated me well to boot. My main reason for leaving this review is to let potential customers know that I went to Big Bear Auto Repair because of all the rave reviews, and thanks to those, COMPLETELY HAD MY GUARD DOWN, was totally trusting...and may have gotten screwed because of it (I'm not sure; though the bill was very high, information was in short supply, details were vague about what was done, and when I got home and calmed down, and studied the invoice, it was even more vague, mostly blank, raising more questions than it answered). I thought of going back and complaining, but didn't feel well and the experience was so unpleasant I couldn't face the prospect. Don't make the same mistake I did. At EACH STEP I had given them the benefit of the doubt because of the great reviews. Don't you do the same! I didn't quite have my wits about me, but in retrospect I realized I'd had the vague but distinct impression that I was invisible, or of lesser consequence, and less-heeded; I was ill-treated and more than likely was treated that way, &/or over-charged because I'm a lone, elderly woman, sigh. Maybe not. Or, maybe it was ageism &/or sexism, but the repair work actually needed doing (other than the glitch with the one part, my car ran great). This doesn't excuse the vague, scanty, incomplete documentation I received (I've been driving for over 50 years, have had LOTS of vehicles, both commercial and personal, serviced and repaired- have never seen anything like it). Maybe the fellow was just having a really bad day, and I was the easiest one to take it out on. But, so YOU can be sure that everything's cricket, ask questions, don't assume, clarify anything that's not explicit, insist on details (verbally and in writing), and don't sign anything you haven't read, REGARDLESS of the great reviews or whether the bloke waiting on you is Mr. Personality, or not. My engine check light lit up as I approached Big Bear Village. The alarm shrieked and I was scared that my old car would need expensive repairs far from home. Next morning I got to Big Bear Auto Repair before they opened. Tristan immediately responded to my request for an electronic diagnosis. It only took him a few moments for him to pronounce a clean bill of health and attributed the alarm to the strain of climbing 7,000 feet in an old car in excessive heat. We had to find a good car service station before our 3 hr road trip back home. We "yelped" and found this place. We are so glad we did. They looked at my jeep and determined that the likely issue could be solved with a gas cap over at AutoZone.
