Big Ben is sooo beautiful. I can't help but stare at him every time i am near him... Big Ben is so famous with his iconic clock and since he's so tall you can see him from everywhere. So Big Ben only refers to the clock portion- the rest of it is Parliament in which you cannot go in unless you are UK citizen or make a special lengthy request online. Big Ben is a sight to see in day or night/rainy or sunny. You have to see Big Ben as a visitor- plus you'll get to knock out the other touristy spots like Parliament, The Abbey, those Red British Phone Booths, London Eye, London Aquarium. They are all right there. Its super busy around there but cabs are everywhere to pick you up/drop you off but if you want to save some moolah- take the tube and exist Westminster Station and as you exit you'll see Big Ben in his glory. read more

London is a big city with a lot to offer. It is a city of wonder and dreams for a lot of people I know. One thing that I always dreamed about was seeing Big Ben in person. The massive beaming clock haunted me with images of impressive architecture and beauty. This year I finally got the opportunity to experience it in person and it did not disappoint. Technically the massive clock tower is not named Big Ben but for simplicity sake as well as pure childlike stubbornness I shall continue to call it as such for the remainder of my review. Big Ben is of course the name of the bell not the clock. Elizabeth tower and the sound of BIG BEN has to be two of London's most recognizable landmarks and sounds. The Elizabeth Tower and Great Bell are undergoing renovation until 2021. For several months there will be no chimes BTW. Striking and tolling will be maintained for important events only as reported. It is a great place! I think it is the heart of the London. Big Ben is located at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London and it is a very visited place in London. I recommend visiting the Big Ben whenever you are in London because it is a beautiful place. I visited it for the first time in 2012. This is one of those things that you just have to see, right? Big Ben and the Parliament building. But, uhm... what more can I say? Well, what can 'ya say? It's the Big Ben :) It's always cool to see and standing right next to it really gives you an idea of how HUGE it is. Get on the circle line (the yellow one) and get off at Westminster. Walking distance from the London Eye and other major attractions so this area is always busy busy busy but definitely worth seeing up close and personal. read more

I knew that Big Ben was big... I mean, it's in the name... but until I stood beside it I did not grasp its vastness. It's so beautiful and majestic--a MUST SEE up close (you can see it from many other places, but you really need to actually go to it). I was blown away. Driven past this spot thousands of times. I've been lucky enough to have had access to the Houses of Parliament on many occasions even to go up into the bell tower itself. The reason they call it Big Ben is that is the name of the bell. The clock is governed on weights by old pennies. Public are not allowed into the main building but can attend public gallery (if its still open) not like the 24 hour bar inside the building. hic hic. read more

The carvings and statue work adorning it are quite awesome to see, but in the end its just a bell tower clock. One of my favourite London memories occurred here. I was taking pictures and a young girl came up to me, and seriously asked me what the time was. I glanced at my watch and told her. I looked up behind her and there was Big Ben, showing the time on his clock face. I told my friend what had happened and cracked up laughing. Absolutely beautiful! You can't really go up, not sure how you can (apparently there's some special process and you have to be a UK citizen?). It's attached directly to the Houses of Parliament. Dreamy architecture. Westminster Abbey is a 5min walk away, and if you circle around you can walk around the Thames, a small bridge, and then the Thames again. London Eye is another 5-min in the opposite direction across the bridge. Smaller attractions near London Eye is the London Aquarium and London Dungeon. read more

There is no bad view of this clock tower from either side of the river. It takes your breath away, especially just at dawn with the sunset in the background. The bridge is packed full with wall-to-wall people, so be prepared to step onto the traffic lane. Just note, those cars and buses do not slow down, they almost go faster when they see you. If you have a tripod, try to take a time line -- it is well worth the time! read more
