The Clock Tower is a beautiful landmark. My fave point of view is standing near to Westminster Hall, looking up at the clock with the London Eye behind it. You can arrange a free tour up the Clock Tower if you write to your local MP. Big Ben is absolutely beautiful. As an architect buff, I was taken aback by the setting and grandeur of both the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. There's also the London Eye in the back, as well as some beautiful grand buildings situated along the River Thames. Great experience, would definitely recommend it! Busy but worth it :). read more

You KNOW, Big Ben is just BLOODY BRILLIANT!!! No other timepiece IN THE WORLD can compare to its fame. Arguably, it's the most recognizable thing in all of London, besides The Queen herself, of course ;) Big Ben is actually the name of the hour bell that rings so blissfully. The clock itself is really named The Great Clock of the Palace of Westminster, and it is wound up 3 times a week. The tower it rests on, is known as the Elizabeth Tower, after Queen Elizabeth II. Prior to 2012 it was simply The Clock Tower, or incorrectly as St. Stephen's Tower or the Albert Tower and it takes 334 steps to get to top of this gorgeous thing, 1.5 hrs to wind up by electric motor. The bell weighs as much as a small elephant, around 13.5 tons. The Elizabeth Tower is over 150yrs old and still looks amazing, especially when basking in the sunlight or glowing at night!!! Sure wish our British families were close to their respective MPs to secure a tour inside, but still, and always will be, a WORTHY photo-op. This clock tower is majestic! Absolutely a breathtaking piece. If you visit London you have to visit it, it never gets old.

Big Ben is not actually the name of the clock tower, but the name of the bell inside the tower. It even has it's own twitter account that tweets "BONG..." every hour! Anyway, I can't think of a more iconic icon of London. It's hard to get a good picture of the tower that's unobstructed by buildings or tourists - try from the west (toward St. James's Park) or from across the river. If you're a resident of the UK, you can write your MP and request a tour to go up the tower and see Big Ben up close and personal! read more

However the tower isn't open to tourist visitors! But UK citizens could ask for a special guided visit through their parliament's members. it was absolutely gorgeous and beautiful at night. It took us awhile to figure out how to get to the Big Ben which is now called Elisabeth tower unfortunately. It will always be known as the Big Ben to me. We took the city cruise which took us right directly to the Big Ben. I would love to take the city cruise again. It was inexpensive and was straight to the point. London is beautiful during the day and even more beautiful at night. read more

Love London ! I drive past Saint Peter's Clock Tower everyday & have done for the last 20 years & never get tired of looking and listening at it . (I drive a black cab ) just a couple of tips , the best view of London skyline ( at night ) is from Waterloo Bridge where you can see both the City & the West End . During the day cross over to the south side near Lambeth Pier for your pictures as this location provides you with an exceptional view of the whole of Westminster Palace and the River Thames ! One more quick note is Little Ben , a miniature replica right next to Victoria Train Station . ( most people don't know it's there & it's worth a look ! ) read more

It's definitely more than just a clock tower. It's the BIG BEN! You've seen it in picture, you've seen it on TV but you need to see this London landmark in person to appreciate its beauty. If you have time and is doing the walking tour of the city, I would recommend walking across the Westminster Bridge towards the Big Ben. The feeling of getting closer and closer to the tower is beyond words. You can also see the London Eye across the river from the bridge and of course the House of Parliament in front of you. Seeing everyone and their moms with a nice DSLR and tri-pods out taking probably amazing pictures, I wish I had invested in one too. Though, the beauty of this significant landmark is forever captured in my memories :) read more

I think Ben stole a piece of my heart. This is such a stunning and famous clock, I can't believe it's taken me this long to go and see it! Whether it's morning noon or night this clock stands out, in a good way. If you are visiting London this is an absolute must see and I'd also recommend crossing the river and walking along it to get a great picture or two of Big Ben. Of course, you've gotta see Big Ben! Its what everyone thinks of when they think of London and it is worth a visit. The best thing is it is right there with parliament and Westminster Abbey so you can take the tube there and just wander. The Westminster tube station is very close and an easy ride.
