DO NOT RECOMMEND BIG BIRGE PLUMBING!! Hired them for a large and expensive plumbing job during our basement finish, and the experience was extremely disappointing from both a workmanship and billing standpoint. Their team initially installed piping incorrectly, which resulted in leaks and required them to return to fix their mistake. Later, we discovered they had also crossed the plumbing lines -- hot water came out of the cold side in both the shower and sink, and the toilet was flushing hot water. Correcting this error required a large hole to be cut into our brand-new drywall. After the finish work was completed, one of their employees called their CFO in front of us to confirm our final balance. Weeks later, we were suddenly told we owed hundreds of dollars more because they claimed I had made some sort of side "deal" with their plumber, which is absolutely false. Throughout the process, they provided multiple estimates and invoices that did not match the final amount they demanded. To make matters worse, they withheld payment to the contractor who repaired the drywall damage caused by their mistake until they received the additional money they claimed we owed. In the end, we were left paying out of pocket to repair damage caused entirely by their team's errors. Based on our experience, I would strongly caution others before hiring this company. read more

We had our water heater go out in the winter and tried to tough it out knowing it would cost a lot to replace. Hopeful it was just a repair job, we contacted our trusted plumber whose previously helped with pipe replacements but he wasn't in business any longer so we switched to Big Birge and are very pleased. They assessed that there was no way to repair and we'd have to replace. The great thing was that they donated some of what they made from the replacement to a local charity. They've given back to the community time and again with new water fountains at one of our child's schools. Unfortunately, months later we had a really bad drain clog problem that we could not resolve with our snake or natural drain cleaners (as commercial grade can ruin pipes & eat away at snaking equipment!). Their man came out and cleared our pipes and recommended a treatment to do monthly. While we haven't been great at the monthly treatment, we do notice that once we see things draining slowly and do use it, it seems to help which is so nice on our pocket not to have to call them! Glad they are there when we need them for the big jobs and with lots of helpful tips if you follow their socials or ask the service man when there. They're willing to share all sorts of tips! I originally called to get help comparing different water heater options for our new house. Instead, the technician arrived with a single unit in mind and told my wife he was there to replace ours with that model. He presented her with a contract on the spot, without giving us alternatives or confirming with me -- the person who had made the request. My wife assumed we had already discussed it, so she signed. I'll admit we could have communicated better between ourselves, but I feel the company should have clearly explained the options and confirmed the scope of work before moving forward. The installation itself left a mess in our basement, and the new heater stopped working within a week. When I tried to resolve the issue, it was difficult to reach the owner, as the number I was told to call always went straight to voicemail. Overall, this experience felt rushed, unprofessional, and not customer-focused. To respond to owner: i called for help picking out a new unit. Yes I was looking for a new one but expected a quote with some different options. Cam showed up with a unit and said he was ready to replace ours. He also wore his boots in our house and left footprints everywhere. Absolutely amazing experience with Big Birge plumbing. Scheduling was super easy and not too far out, and they made me aware of the cost of the visit (the minimum fee) while scheduling, they showed up on time and gave me two call ahead notices when I missed the first one, and they got all the work completed in one visit (even some additional things I wasn't planning on asking about) Michael (our plumber) never complained or anything at all when I asked regarding additional questions or issues unrelated to the reason for the visit, and he completely took care of us and got everything back to working order. I've had so many plumbers in the past come out, charge us for the visit, then tell us they couldn't fix our issue or it wasn't a plumbing issue and waste our time and money, and that is not at all what happened here! Michael even looked at our appliance with us while he was here and checked how it was hooked up to ensure the leak we've been having issues with wasn't a plumbing issue and was in fact a appliance issue, and seriously he went above and beyond doing that and we couldn't be more grateful! Faulty electrical outlet, blown fuse on the battery backup system and a 6" downpour led to a sump pump failure and a flooded basement. With a previous positive experience and needing the sump pump running again, Big Birge was my first call. After diagnosing the situation, Adam assured me that the sump pump was still in good condition, that I needed to contact a qualified electrician and recommended replacing the battery backup. They did work for me about a year ago. They were friendly and competent. I would have given them a 5-Star rating here, too. But I have an issue with them: the disposer they installed is extremely sub-standard. It was only fair to begin with but has become much worse over time. This morning it took more than five minutes to grind six lemons. It gets duller by the day, it seems. I'd call that sub-standard, and I'm sure I paid top dollar for it, too. read more

Could have gone with a much more expensive "fix" since I'm not an expert, but they said this repair would do the job. I can not recommend these guys enough. I called and spoke to Brad on the phone to get a quote for replacing a washer hookup and moving a water line for my new fridge. He got out there within a day or two to actually get us the quote, then scheduled one of his guys to actually perform the work just a few days after that. Carlos (the guy that did the work) was awesome. He offered to wear booties on his shoes even though our house is completely demolished for a remodel right now. He got the work done quickly, it looks great, and he didn't leave a mess when he was done. Best of all, it ended up costing less than what we thought it was going to cost. I have confidence in their work. The writing "we are bringing the value back" on the truck was intriguing when i saw them at my tightwad neighbors house. Unfortunately it was misleading. I had a minor leak in an upstairs bathroom sink. It was an easy fix but I didn't have the tools to do it. Would've cost less than $20 to fix it myself. But instead I called Big Birge on a Monday morning. The owner Brad was very nice on the phone, he had two of his guys come out around noon that day, which was awesome. They were pros, they fixed the problem in 20 minutes tops, also awesome. Unfortunately it cost me $157! The rate is $135/hr for a technician with helper, and you always pay for at least one hour. I would trust these guys with bigger jobs (perhaps that is the kind of business they are targeting) but for your every day ordinary handyman fixes you're going to pay way too much! read more

In fact, the already involved job got even lengthier due to a severe weather day and a surprise buried set of concrete stairs that the team discovered in our yard and that was directly in their path! We will always go with Big Birge whenever we need a plumbing fix! They did a great job installing a shower in our basement but what really sealed the deal was when they came out on a weekend to do a job that we were quoted for $2,300 from another company - BB was able to do it for $990! The guys that came to our house were joking with the kids and very professional. The guys did their work with very little disruption to our normal schedule. I love their process! Very professional. They laid down a cover over my hard wood so they wouldn't track in anything from the outside and I believe Brad, the owner, wore booties over his shoes when venturing onto my carpet. That's one thing that I truly appreciated and took note of as i'm quite OCD when it comes to keeping my house clean. That small part of their process stuck out even more to me when an electrician came over 30 minutes after Big Birge Plumbing had left. The electrician had kept his shoes on and tracked dirt all over my hard wood. Something as small as that shows you the maturation process that some companies have to go through before they get to the professional "WE GET IT" level that Big Birge Plumbing is clearly at.
