Exploring Chicago [Chicago IL] Taking the Big Bus Tours in major cities are always helpful because we don't have to drive everywhere to landmarks and places we want to visit, we just simply hopped-off then hopped-on again at the next bus. This means it's less headache maneuvering through traffic and looking for parking. We let the tour bus deal with all the driving and honking LoL! I've never heard so much honking in the streets. We did a full circle first then hopped off these major attractions: Stop #1 - Chicago Riverwalk Stop #3 - Millennium Park Stop #8 - Navy Pier Stop #10 - 360 Chicago Big highlights we experienced with the Big Bus Tours: Chicago Architecture Center Cloudgate "The Bean" Route 66 start Giordano's Pizza Famous Stuffed Pizza Lake Michigan Skyline Cruise in Chicago 360 Observatory Unfortunately, the Big Bus Tours had to modify their schedule due to the NASCAR Chicago Street Race weekend. We did not have access to #4, #5 and #6. We still enjoyed our tour of Chicago. Review #3811

Finding the first stop is annoying for their first run of the day. Their website said they open at 9 AM and the first bus leaves the first stop at 10 AM. Buses run every 20 to 30 minutes so I headed out early as to not miss the first bus. Their website shows a fairly large red sign that says Big Bus Tour here. They have an address of 98 E. Wacker Dr (across from Trump tower). The address on Google maps is just West of N. Michigan Ave. There is also a city bus stop here. The bus actually picks up on the East side of Wabash Ave. The bus arrived at about 9:45am. This is when they put out the bus sign. There is no stand or storefront that sells tickets here. The staff have handheld devices that will print your bus ticket. They really need to change their "opening" time on the website. If you want to sit on the top deck, get there early, that fills fast. I chose to sit inside the bus because of the air conditioning. I'm not sure what they do if it rains since some people will likely have purchased their ticket ahead of time and the tickets are nonrefundable. The afternoon was overcast so I sit at the top of the bus for the final three stops. I only got off at Navy Pier. The full tour takes about two hours. My other issue with this tour is the monotonous audio tour. The bus drivers are able to comment as well. I had two different drivers. Both drivers mostly let the audio tour play. They had a few comments and a couple jokes, but nothing really entertaining. I purchased my ticket through Groupon, which ended up being about $42. If you buy a ticket from their website, it's about $58 plus all the taxes. Chicago has so many taxes. If you search Google for hop on hop off bus tour Chicago, this company comes up even though their company name is different. Tip: sit on the left side of the bus. It seemed like 90% of the things to look at were on the left side of the bus.

I love taking a hop on hop off bus in a new town to get the lay of the land. A big negative for me is the lack of a live guide and in this case, we all had to get off the bus and get onto another one at the Riverwalk stop. And then there is the 20 minute wait in the sun. Oh, and the app isn't accurate. We saw that the bus was two minutes away only to find out it was 20 minutes away. An empty bus came but it was to take the sales people back to the yard. I'm not a fan, sorry. Very frustrating. I should have looked at another bus tour.

Overall I really enjoyed the Bus tours. The conductors and guides are very helpful and they offer a level of lighthearted information as well. It makes the whole trip worthwhile. The buses are clean and well maintained. There was only one instance where the intercom system wasn't working but overall of the five or six trips I took on them. I was very impressed with service.

    Chicago!

Prompt and courteous staff at pickup points. Audio guide was very informative and engaging and the stops were at great places to take in all there is to see in Chicago. We did this for 2 days. Some bus drivers did their own commentary and appreciated tips. We had one driver that was more informative than the recorded audio and she kept is laughing too, and another one that had very little to say that was really informative except to share her opinion about a few places. You can't go wrong with the audio tho! Be sure to get off at Navy Pier and walk around the shops or get a meal, it's a beautiful area!

The only person that we encountered that is keeping this business running is SPIRO ( Spyro, Spero). He was phenomenal! He truly is passionate and knowledgeable. Very welcoming ! As a first timer in Chicago, this tour is worth it. It takes you to all the most popular stops in Chicago, city area. For the night tour ( where you will find Spiro ), it is sold separately or on the most expensive bundle. Now, this ticket does not include the admission to the museums or Skydeck, nor the 360. With the tour you are able to hop off and on at any of the stops, this will definitely save you the expense on taxi, Uber, Lyft, CTA.

    Candace!!!!

We did the hop on hop off bus tour today, and had so much fun! We got to see quite a bit of the city while not freezing our butts off outside :). We had a few great drivers today, but Candace was amazing! She was funny, knowledgeable and a joy to be with! If you can get on her bus, I highly recommend it!

    Top of your

We used our GoCity pass for this and enjoyed it very much. We'd recommend going on it first thing and staying in for the entire tour and then stopping at places after the full tour and getting off and on for attractions. On our first morning tour the guide/driver was full of energy and information that was much appreciated. We not only learned history or the city but also other things you could do around that didn't cost money and was fun to do. (Money History Museum) Later when we got on they were no longer doing a live tour but you could still plug in headphones for a prerecorded tour. Overall neat experience and get to the top of possible, it's a much different experience up there.

Lots of PINK and pretty flowers everywhere. The table scape is beautiful and they serve Aqua Panna water, if you know, you know. We paid for the VIP selection which offers additional food and a glass of virgin Rose'. Mike our driver explained that we would have a 90 minute ride exploring Chicago. Eliot was our entertainer during the ride. He has a beautiful singing voice and would crack a joke or two. Lola was our beautiful tea hostess and made sure we tasted four different flavors. We each received a beautifully decorated plastic tumbler for our samples. Every single flavor was amazing! I do love a good tea. We started with Maple Apple Cider, Breakfast in Paris, Moroccan Mint and finished with a nice Chai. Again, each tea flavor was amazing! On to the food. The scones were good and came with clotted cream and preserves. VIP included lobster rolls. Smelled like fish but it was a pink spread, not good. Each finger sandwich had hard bread which seemed to dry out after being exposed to the air. Each tart that was supposed to have a hard crust was soft and mushy, not good. The deviled eggs had no flavor at all. Bottom line on the food, not good at all. Not sure how long it's sitting before being served. Everything that was supposed to be soft was hard and what was supposed to be hard was soft. Overall, the concept of a mobile tea party is great. Maybe find a way to cover the food. Get real lobster rolls.

When we arrived, we were told a shipment hadn't come in and were told, "sorry, but at least one of you in your party gets a cup," which was not acceptable. The tea portions were extremely small - literally about two sips each. The package advertises 5 teas, but in reality you only receive 3 tastings. For the price, it felt very misleading and overpriced. Yes, the space is cute inside, but that alone doesn't make up for the poor value. To make matters worse, the food was stale. Lastly, there was no AC, so the bus was hot and stuffy the entire time. I would not recommend this tour.

This was probably one of the best tours I've been on, and my fiancé (who has very high standards…read moreabout these things) agrees. We booked a tour for Saturday at 2 pm. There were some technical difficulties and the TV system on the bus ended up not working. Mr. Frank Calabrese Jr was very professional and good-humored about the situation. He offered everyone on the bus the opportunity to come back free of charge so that we may have the full experience with the photos he had been intending to show us. He proceeded to do the tour without the presentation, which honestly was great in itself. He is a very good story-teller, and had a great narrative. He had notes with him but only referenced them a few times to make sure he wasn't forgetting anything. Everything was super authentic and off the cuff. I loved that we went around Chicago and we were able to get glimpses of how the city was like in the 60s-90s. What made this tour so great was that these stories were first-hand. It didn't come from someone who spent hours studying the history; this was his real life. He was very genuine about his experiences, and his anecdote about his kids at the very end of the tour made me tear up a bit. He even invited us to stay for happy hour at the Chop House to have a drink with him to talk. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, regardless of whether you know the mob history or not. I personally didn't know too much, and still was captivated by his stories. He does have a book (which I definitely intend to read) and a movie in the works!

But everything happens for a reason, and it seems that reason was that I was meant to wait until the perfect one came along -- that, my friends, happened to be the Family Secrets Tour. I met Mr. Calabrese Jr. weeks ago when he presented some of his intriguing life stories at an event at Chicago Chop House, and I knew that evening that I had to book and experience the real deal, aka his bus tours. My friend and I booked a tour for a Friday afternoon recently that started at 2pm, and though there was a bit of a delay because our bus's TV monitors weren't working, Mr. Calabrese Jr. smoothly filled the time with some behind-the-scenes stories he said he usually doesn't share on the tour. I was hooked immediately. To be honest, before this tour, I had no idea the stories his family was involved in were so high-profile (I even talked to my family afterward, and they ALL knew every detail and were mad I didn't invite them! Sorry family!). But even while he showed us news clips, a lot of photos, and told all of his stories, he remained modest, which made the entire experience endearing. Mr. Calabrese Jr. is super charismatic and a great storyteller, and you can tell he genuinely loves telling his story and showing everyone around the neighborhoods where he grew up, and where big moments happened in history to people who were in "the life." I truly enjoyed this tour and I recommend it for anyone who wants an real, honest, non-theatrical recap of Chicago's mob history. The Family Secrets Tour is engaging and delightful. Thank you so much for captivating us, Frank! Can't wait to bring my family along some time!

Honestly I don't even know where to begin, for starters Steve was a horrible tour guide. The tour was scheduled to start at 8:30am, that was with hotel pick up included. My friends and I didn't get picked up until 11:30am and it was a good thing that we went ahead and ate breakfast even though we were guaranteed to be taken somewhere to eat breakfast for the allegedly 8:30am start time. And even though for our party of 3 we were guaranteed a private tour, when we got picked up at our hotel there were two other people on the van, which thank goodness they were very pleasant. Steve tried to tell our party of 3 where to sit on the van instead of letting us choose where we would like to sit causing uncomfortable seating issues, so our party of 3 and the two other people on the van worked out our own seating arrangement. This seemed to have disturbed Steve to where he wanted to swap out vans. Even when everyone on the van said that we are all fine and comfortable with the seating arrangement we worked out and also the current van has better accommodations (charging ports, climate controlled, etc). This still fell on deaf ears because after about 1hr into the tour we got into a different van that was below expectations. Steve went on to show us places that we honestly didn't have no interest in seeing and these places wasn't mentioned being part of the tour. Steve had an issue when we asked questions, the tour wasn't engaging, Steve did a lot of talking and made the experience extremely boring. Also I believe Steve is hard of hearing as well which caused a communication barrier. The tour is supposed to be 4hrs and we were guaranteed to be taken somewhere for breakfast and lunch. So mind you we got picked up at 11:30am for the tour instead of 8:30am. Around 2:00pm everyone on the van was hungry as heck and Steve didn't want to stop for us to get something to eat. He went on saying that we have to have structure and there is a certain order that the tour has to be done, which was very contradictory when we was initially told that our requests will be accommodated. Steve proceeded to show us other places that we didn't care to see because we was extremely hungry. We asked several times if he can at least stop somewhere for us to get snacks but he ignored us. The last place we stopped at before we ate, myself and another person out of our group didn't want to get off the van to view whatever it was Steve wanted us to see which wasn't mentioned as one of the places that we would see when we booked the tour. So as Steve was helping the other people off the van and when myself and my friend said that we will stay on the van, Steve slammed the van door in our face while saying okay bye. We finally was taken to a soul food restaurant to eat, this was 1hr later and keep in mind the tour is 4hrs long. We was in the restaurant for about 1hr 20min. After we got done eating two of us (myself included) decided to just uber back to the hotel and not finish the tour because we just couldn't take it anymore, it was extremely boring and Steve was rude. The 1 person out of our group that did stay informed us that after we left the tour, Steve did not take them to Jennifer Hudson's child hood home, Kanye West child hood home nor Obama's house and that was because of time which that's all on Steve. So yeah, this experience was terrible and we basically wasted a great majority of our day for nothing.
