My husband and I have lived in Chicago for over 20 years but we still like to do tourist-y things. We took the tour yesterday (7/3/26) with Winnie Westside as our guide. We had a little hiccup at the very beginning with a malfunctioning bus door, but Winnie and our driver handled it with grace and humor and soon we were on our way. The tour covers a lot of ground and I heard a lot of out-of-town visitors happily exclaiming about the cool Chicago facts and sights they were learning about. I had a renewed appreciation for the city I've come to love as our driver expertly shuttled us all around town. On such a hot day I think everyone appreciated not having to leave the bus, and having a guide in costume and in character really makes it more fun. I used to take this tour with all of my out-of-town visitors years ago when it was two guys and a school bus painted black, and I've taken it periodically since they expanded. I'm happy to say it's still as great as ever, and I'll definitely keep this tour in mind when people come visit me this summer. read more

Fantastic tour! Far exceeded my expectation. The bus was easy to find, right infront of McDonalds and just look for someone in a 1920's costume. The bus is super comfy and even has a spot for you to charge your phone. Driver was excellent and cautious and the guide Marie was outstanding. Very entertaining and educational if you're a fan of mob culture/history like I am. Aside from visiting notable locations and getting inside info, you also get a quick tour around this area of Chicago which I found helpful to plan for what to do after the tour. We had so much fun and the time just flew by. At the end of our tour, there was a raffle and I got 1/3 prizes. Super unexpected and definitely the cherry on top. Pricing is VERY reasonable! At first, we weren't sure of taking this tour, but we are so glad we did. It was a fantastic tour, and we had a wonderful tour guide, Biggie Blue Eyes. He was funny, entertaining and full of Chicago history. We appreciate his humor, experience and knowledge. He engaged with everyone on the tour. We learned so much about the original gangsters like the infamous Al Capone, Dion O'Banion, John Dillinger, George "Bugs" Moran, and "Diamond Jim" Colosimo and many more. We have heard and watched movies about these incredible characters, but to see the places they lived and made history is a treat. I highly recommend this tour especially with Biggie Blue Eyes as a your guide. The bonus is you get to learn about various neighborhoods in Chicago, like Chinatown, Lincoln Park, and Pilsen. All of our family that came to Chicago for my godchild's wedding reception left before noon on the next day. Hubby and I found ourselves wanting something to get out and do. It has rained all morning and we weren't sure how long it was going to continue so we opted for an activity where we would be protected from the elements. If you've been to Chicago, you know there are probably a million things that you can do that are fun and exciting! Since I am convinced that there was mafia in my family history, this crime tour really peaked my interest. It was a tour and it was on a very nice bus that was comfortable and had plenty of hook ups for phones etc. in case you wanted to be able to charge to take pictures . It was also one of the tours that was advertised as funny with the tour guide being well-versed in the criminal activities in the early 1900s all the way up to about the 1960s. Our tour guide was dressed for the role. He was extremely knowledgeable and witty. The tour lasted approximately two hours. It started at a place where we all met up and checked in. Most of us had gotten our tickets online but they were also available from our tour guide. Our bus Driver was also fantastic!! I'm not sure how he managed to drive around in the thick Chicago traffic. Kudos-kudos!!!! Our tour guide gave a lot of history, and many of the names were unfamiliar to me however, some of the biggest criminals and mobsters like Al Kapone- I had certainly heard of and read about. This review is not going to be full of detail because you need to experience it for yourself !! Our tour guide even had a little game planned at the end of a couple questions and answers with prizes. I felt he did everything possible to keep us entertained!! We definitely recommend it ! Why did we choose this crime tour???? as there are several.... Learned where old buildings like Capone's Lexington hotel used to be, saw the site of the St. Balentine's day massacre, and were able to view bullet holes in churches where drive-bys occurred. I took my mom to Chicago for the first time and she loves a good crime show so I thought a gangster tour would be right up her alley. I did some research online to make sure I picked a good one, and one with a vehicle. I knew we would be walking the city a lot so I wanted to make sure we had a break from the chilly streets. It was easy to get my tickets online ahead of time and pick the date/time. There was a mix-up with my ticket and a tour a week earlier so the office called me to confirm my tickets - the lady on the phone was nice and explained the confusion, which didn't really affect my purchase. I only make note of this because otherwise I wouldn't have talked to the office and she was very nice and pleasant so I think that should be noted. We arrived at the pick-up location (which was moved slightly down the block but communicated well). *I also received a reminder text the night before* The guys were really fun and ready to get moving! We loaded up the bus, chatted a bit and were off! The whole tour is not only informative about the Chicago of the past, but they also throw in some current information and fun facts. We were able to see parts of the city we wouldn't have seen on our own and the whole experience is pretty interactive. The tour guides were AMAZING! So fun and funny, great (cheesy) jokes, silly sing-a-longs and lots of information. My mom LOVED it and we both had a really great time. I'd go again! read more

Fun tour thats worth a pit stop on your trip to chicago. fairly easy to find the black, small bus parked near the corner in front of the mcdonalds. its directly across the street from portillos. easy check in on the bus also. they give you a pamplet with names and photos of the mobsters they talk about. the tour was fun, you drive around pretty much in the downtown and some parts of the southside. luckily there wasnt too much traffic. our tour guide had a good sense of humor and alot of info to share. my only complaint was it was dark and cozy on the bus, alot of us were falling asleep. i would have liked to be able to get off at certain stops too, but we didnt do that here. keep some spots in mind that you want to visit and come back to later. read more

Why 4 stars? Because it was a fun way to spend an afternoon in Chicago. --- --- --- My Dad and I were visiting Chicago to go to Wrigley Field, but we had some time during the day to explore the city. It was my Dad's first time in Chicago, so I asked him if there was anything else besides baseball that he'd like to do, and he said that he'd be interested in a gangster/mafia tour. So I went to Yelp to do some research and this tour definitely had the most buzz. We were told to meet at a certain address downtown, but there was a little bit of confusion on exactly where we were supposed to go due to some construction. Eventually we figured out where exactly to be after asking some other people who appeared to also be looking for the same answer. Once we got onto the bus, it was smooth sailin'. It was a comfortable ride and while the subject matter wasn't *that* interesting to me, I never felt bored. They kept things informative and entertaining. The two guys would alternate telling us stories about the mafia days and they were both easy to listen to. The whole time, I kept wondering if they were playing up their Chicago accents a bit, or if that was genuinely the way they spoke. It seemed like certain words may have been more heavily enunciated - that might have been my favorite part as funny as that sounds. Accents are hilarious to me. The tour was right at around two hours and we covered a lot of ground. FYI, the entire tour is on a bus - there is no getting out, though they do pull over and stop at a few landmarks to tell stories. "You gotta get a gimmick, if you wanna be a star." Well, Big Jules and Shoulders, the tour guide and bus driver of Untouchable Tours, respectively, definitely have their gimmick down. So I'm in Chicago trying to visit literary sites (don't ask) and I come across an Untouchable GANGSTER tour of Chicago. I'm thinking Al Capone, Prohibition, 1920's, The Great Gatsby. Perfect! I call to make a reservation and they are pretty much sold out. That's how hot this ticket is. Luckily, I squeeze myself into the tour and head to Rock and Roll McDonald's (where the tour meets). They've converted an old cheese bus (cheese is the operative word for the entire Gangster tour situation, actually) into an Untouchable, gangster vehicle. The outside is painted black, but, don't worry, they have replaced all the hard leather seats with much more comfortable alternatives. I think it's important to know that Big Jules, the tour guide, wears a fedora, pin striped pants and a gun shaped tie clip. It's also key to understand that gun shot noise comes over the speakers and Big Jules makes everyone duck as he points a fake gun at you. Is that the kind of tour you wanna be on? I really didn't have a problem with it, because I'm cheesy. Oh, and yes, besides the twelve and under group of kids, I was definitely the youngest on the bus. I didn't really mind though; I thought it was funny. Another word on the cheese: there is a gangster raffle. Everyone got a playing card and had to rip it in half. For some reason we stopped the bus in front of the old Cabrini Green projects while we did this. Big Jules had someone pick some half cards out of the bag, and they received prizes. You know, a little kitsch never hurt anyone. A good thing about this tour is that it takes you around every neighborhood of Chicago, so if you are a tourist (like I was) and don't know the lay of the land, this definitely helps. I wouldn't have gone to Little Italy, Chinatown, the stockyards, the Wizard of Oz park and definitely Cabrini Green otherwise, so it was kind of nice to get the whole overview of the city. There also is a lot of information about Chicago gangsters. You get to see where the St. Valentine's massacre took place and you spy an old gun shot hole in the side of a church. If you're ready to play along and get in the groove, it's sort of a good time. Oh, and the tours don't start that early. There's one at 10 and one at 12 every day. So if you're over 55, feeling cheesy, or have a kid, I definitely recommend it. Put on your pin stripes, sit back, but don't relax too much, you might have to dodge some bullets... read more

This was my fifth Untouchables tour and my guest from Germany absolutely loved it! He gives enough facts to keep you intrigued - but not bury you in minutia. The bus is super clean and very comfortable. It's an entertaining tour. The tour guides Slippery Sloop and Shoulders knew the information and delivered it well. It included humor and was definitely family friendly. The problem with the tour is that it's been almost 100 years since all this stuff happened. There is nothing tangible left to see except a church with an alleged bullet hole in the exterior brick and a hotel with "S" on the balcony railing. But the guys are good performers and deliver the info well. They make a good team. I enjoyed it, however, as I said there's really nothing left to see. But I learned a bunch of stuff (hopefully true) like why it's called spiked drinks and why Ness was "untouchable". It was fun - a little pricy - but entertaining. read more

The lead tour guide/gangster was an engaging story-teller, and I learned quite a bit about the different gangs in Chicago. It was nice to learn about gangsters other than Capone. For example, I had never heard of the Genna brothers before the tour so that gave me inspiration to look more into their background and history. I also learned that most of the gangsters are buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery. I wish they could add that to the list of stops on the tour, but it's in Hillside, IL. And speaking of the stops on the tour - the only memorable ones are the Biograph Theatre and Holy Name Cathedral. Almost all the other buildings where important events took place have been torn down so we were looking at a few parking lots and even construction sites. We did pass by two hotels, The Blackstone and The Stevens Hotel (now the Hilton). Fun fact: you can see the 'S' on the window railings! Only two minor things I didn't care for about the tour guide - I didn't like how he was too much in the faces of a couple of the passengers in the first rows, excessively so. If I were sitting in those seats I probably would have moved towards the back of the bus - but the back of the bus also was incredibly bumpy! Towards the end of the tour, they had a raffle - it was unexpected and I won a Chicago gangster mug! They also raffled off a Capone shot glass and a gangster book. I'd probably say if you are a tourist visiting Chicago, and you only wanted to go on one tour, I wouldn't choose this one. However, if you are a local like I am, I would recommend going on this tour, especially if you have any interest in Chicago history. read more

The tour guide was knowledgeable and great in character. The tour itself felt like riding in your friends car through the city and having them tell you the land marks as they roll by. I was disappointed with not being able to get off the bus at least at the church and the theater where Dillinger was shot (see that hole ver there, that is a bullet hole). You struggle to see things from the bus especially if you are on the wrong side. read more
