I can't say enough good things about Eye Mechanix. After a horrible experience at Pearle on Fullerton (see my review) I came here and I'm very happy with my new glasses. I happened to call about picking up my glasses when they were closed but an employee was there and she allowed me to come in anyway. I wish I could remember her name to mention her specifically. Dr. Ricketts and his team here really are the best optometrist experience I've been a part of. Dr. Ricketts is methodical in his approach and once he has finished his appointment (which took about 30 minutes total) it was on to the fun part: Finding a pair of glasses. First, there were plenty of unique brands that I've never come across in other places. From local designers to higher end danish brands (why oh why must I always gravitate towards the high-end brands!) I don't even live in the area any more and its still worth it to drive to Lincoln Park and do my exam and get my next pair of glasses. read more

I walked in to repair my glasses expecting to wait a while, to drop off the glasses and come back later. None of that happened. The young lady was very courteous to the two customers before me and was courteous to me too. She examined my eyeglasses (broken nose piece), went to the back and within minutes, she came back and not only replaced the nose piece, she replaced the other nose piece to match. Dr. Ricketts and the team at Eye Mechanix provided incredible service. My experience with them began when they made lenses for my Warby Parker frames using a prescription from my previous eye doctor. The old prescription turned out to be inaccurate, rendering the glasses unusable. Dr. Ricketts and team offered to fix my expensive mistake, at no fault of their own, by offering to correct my prescription and make new lenses for me at no extra charge. I went for an annual eye exam about 6 months back. Dr, Ricketts is the best and was very patient with me during the whole exam. Afterwards, John went through my options for new frames. Again, patiently waiting while I looked through their whole selection. He asked me which I liked and between the ones I had pointed out, gave me his advice on which would fit my face best. Once I chose my frames, we fit them and then were special ordered. They reached out via email and phone as soon as my contacts and glasses came in, which was great. I also recently reached out via email to inquire about my prescription lenses and Dr. Ricketts responded within 24 hrs. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I posted a very favorable review in October after my first experiece with the store. Good frame selection and variety of prices. Service was good: friendly, attentive, and entusiastic. A good start. That said, they had to make my lenses THREE times. On the 3rd try, they sent my spare pair to their lab as an example for the curve. When I gave them my spare glasses, I was clear that I was leaving town for an extended trip a week later. Long story short, the new lenses were not done before I left, and they made little effort to get my spares back to me before I left Dec. 12th--two months after my first visit. MY cost for getting my spares returned to me with FedEx and customs duty: $350. Add in the time I spent for repeat visits to the store, phone calls, emails, I have to say that good service there is an oxymoron. read more

A superb optometry experience. Stopped in for an annual checkup on my prescription, for sunglasses. I also had a bothersome allergy/dry eye issue that I was worried about. Dr. Ricketts spent a really good amount of time checking my eyes, advising and prescribing a solution for my issues. He even took the time to show me how to use the drops, swabs, etc. Eye Mechanix encourages everyone to take a simple test called a Visual Field, which is super important to finding any hidden future issues with vision and/or the brain. The Doc explained this all in an easy to understand fashion. Also, the front room staff and opticians were all super professional and nice. This place is fantastic! Super nice people. After looking almost everywhere for frames, I ended up buying 2 pairs of glasses from Eye Mechanix. Beth helped me try on dozens of different pairs until I found the ones I liked, They also came in very quickly. Funniest part was that I found out about them at Four Eyes. I enjoyed everything about Eye Mechanix. The Dr. was very gentle, quite polite and I felt very comfortable talking to him. The staff was excellent. The ladies were friendly, sincere, and fun to talk to. They always offered me coffee and were patient and supportive with the amount of time (two visits) I took to pick out frames. They even let me know they had a new line arrive that I may like to view. Each time I was there, I felt so welcomed. There is a wide range of frames and plenty of affordable options. I've been getting my exams and lenses at Lens Crafters for several years but became dissatisfied with my last two prescriptions. After rechecks, and eventually seeing a medical doctor for temple headaches I literally happened in to the Eye Mechanix in La Grange. The staff was great, I scheduled an exam, and got new glasses in just a few days. When I put them on I was so pleased at how well I could see and my eyes even felt so much better- no eye strain anymore. I wish I'd found them sooner but just so thankful I gave them a visit. These people are amazing. I had a new prescription in hand and went in here to choose some frames. First, John was helpful and so courteous! I get my glasses and they were off but I thought it was maybe just getting used to them.Two days later I can't even walk in them so I bring them back. They offer to send them back for a remake but Dr. Randy decides to check the prescription - free of charge - to make sure it's accurate. And no...it was off. Way off. New glasses are made with Dr. Randy's correct prescription and they are perfect. I offer to pay Dr. Randy for correcting the mistake another practice made and he refuses, he just wants me to have the right prescription and be happy with my glasses. The experience from start to finish with this place was amazing. I recently broke my glasses and I couldnt see for about a week. I was looking up places to go to and I came across this place and I was skeptical of the reviews because I have never seen a place have 5 out 5 stars especially on yelp. But after having my exam, I can see why it has the rating it does. I emailed via their website on a weekend that they were closed and in a day Dr. Ricketts (Randy) responded professional and promptly. I asked him questions regarding my concerns about my vision and insurance and he was able to answer all my questions and more. He looked at my insurance coverage and answered everything I needed to know and I was in his system in about a day or two. My schedule is pretty hecktic and he his staff (John) was friendly and was able to find time for me to come in and have my eyes checked. Dr.Ricketts was very thorough with his exam and he really made sure that the contacts that he was prescribing me was comfortable and the right fit for me. He corrected in my astigmatism which I didnt know I had and he answered every related question to it without hesitation. After my exam I picked out my glasses and John helped me pick out which glasses would fit best, he gave me his opinion and thoughts on which he thought would be a good fit for me. Lastly, as I was picking out my glasses I came across some cool spongebob kids glasses (I know its for kids but I liked them lol) and he was kind of enough to get me one in my size as a surprise and it was a pleasant surprise so thank you again for that I have worn them everyday since I have gotten them, Thank you again for a wonderful experience and I know it is a long review but it is honest and true to heart, I definitely would recommend this place to everyone. Everyone was great from the women at the front desk to the doctor. Would highly recommend for eye exams.

First, I want to preface my review by saying that Dr. Randy was very nice and knowledgeable. However, my experience with Eye Mechanix was average at best, and was told certain things on the phone that turned out to be false, costing me a lot of extra $$$. In need of a new eye exam and contacts, I decided to call Eye Mechanix after reading their stellar Yelp reviews. The person that answered the phone took my insurance information, asked what type of contacts I used, and then proceeded to tell me that my insurance covered that brand of contacts, and thus my contact examination would also be covered. So far so good. Things went downhill from there. I had made it clear over the phone that I did not want the field vision test, as it was not covered by my insurance. I was then told that the optometrist would check with me before administering the test, at which point I could decline to have it. However, Dr. Randy ended up performing the field vision test without asking me, and I was not aware that I had taken the field vision test until it was over. Of course afterwards, he proceeded to tell me how important the test was. The test that I didn't know I was taking. The test that I already stated I didn't want to take. Money down the drain. Then, I received a call later that day from Eye Mechanix telling me that they had made a mistake and that my contact lens brand was NOT covered by my insurance, and thus, if I still wanted to order that brand, I would have to pay for the contact lens examination. More money down the drain. Needless to say I will not be going back after feeling like I had been taken for a $150 ride. read more

I was so happy when I stumbled across Eye Mechanix last year. I've been twice since and have two pairs of great glasses. The offices are friendly and clean, and there is a very large frame selection of both funky and traditional glasses. Dr. Randy was very thorough and professional. He was more than willing to give out contact samples too when I had a lot of trouble finding the right type. John and Jamie are very accomodating and patient. I tried on so many glasses, and no one tried to push me out or disrupt my eye glass purchase process. On weekends, the practice is busy, but I've never had to wait. I brought my friend in after she complained about going to four other places to find glasses and only finding funky and unflattering hipster frames elsewhere. She found at least three very attractive pairs, and they took both our insurance plans. Another perk is that they have parking! I highly recommend this practice. read more

Let me preface this review first by saying I worked at two different eyecare practices for several years. I hadn't gotten an eye exam since leaving my last eyecare sales position which was about two years ago. I wanted a new pair of glasses and found Eye Mechanix on Google. I called to make an appointment and they were able to get me in within the next 50 minutes. The front desk staff and the optician who helped me pick my frame were helpful and not overbearing, which I found to be much more enjoyable from my perspective. I didn't feel pressured into buying anything, which was a trademark of the previous companies I worked for. The optometrist was really patient, kind, and thorough in his exam. The optician offered a discount through my health insurance which was helpful. Their prices were higher than other larger companies (companies I was employed by for some time), but I don't mind paying more for superior service and product, which is what I received. I highly recommend them, and am excited to pick up my new glasses in about a week. read more
