Awesome coffee shop! Was in town for a couple days and needed to do some work. Not many places in the remoteness of Hamilton, but this place was perfect! Lattes were awesome, WiFi is fast, not too noisy, and they have ceramic cups (which I LOVE). Definitely check this place out. read more

Ravalli County is full of "I'd love to live here" places. On a good clear day, you have your choice of mountain ranges to linger over - the rounded but rugged Sapphires to the East, or the knife-edged ridges of snow covered stone that crown the Bitterroot Range to the West. And right through the middle of it all a picturesque river does indeed run - "it" being a steady progression of grassy fields, Ponderosa pine forests, orchards, cattle and horse ranches, summer resorts, and historic small towns, along with a smattering of newly-built houses and commercial retail strips that cluster around an expanding 4-lane central highway. Hamilton, approximately 15,000 in population, is the county seat and largest community in the Bitterroot Valley. From its downtown streets, the soaring cliffs of Blodgett Canyon (think Yosemite in miniature, with about 100x fewer people) are so tantalizingly close you feel like you could reach out and touch them. But as eye-popping as the place itself is, it's the people that really make this area shine. The choices they make to live and work here, and the care they devote to their professions and their passions, create the communities without which the Bitterroot Valley would just be another pretty face. Cute to look at, but lacking depth. And it is in depth of field that true beauty lies. So what does this have to do with coffee?? Good question. Big Creek Coffee Roasters has depth of field. It's not just another pretty face. It's the brilliant brainchild of a local lawyer turned roaster who lives in Hamilton with his family (dogs included). Just behind the Boatwright Law Office building off of MT-93 you'll find Randy L. at work in his customized coffee shop, whose centerpiece is a gleaming orange Diedrich roaster (imagine a KitchenAid mixer on steroids, and you'll sort of get the picture). It's a small-batch, spotlessly run operation, with single origin blends predominating, along with selected blends ("Barrister's Blend," for example, or a "community coffee" whose purchase includes a $1 contribution to the local Humane Association). Stopping at the roasters is a lot of fun, as is getting a fresh cup at the Hamilton farmers' market (seasonal). And if you happen to live in the area, there is also a free home delivery option, which ensures fresh beans year-round. On my way back home after cross-country skiing recently, I stopped by to collect some excellent Rwandan single-origin beans, which are sourced from a co-op run by a group of war widows who survived their country''s devastating 1994 genocide. Good beans, well roasted, make for a satisfying cup of coffee. Beautiful beans in a Bitterroot setting. Depth of field, plus a healthy dose of dedication, attention to detail, and courageous commitment to quality. It's certainly what I would call being a good neighbor. Wherever in the world you happen to live, it's hard not to love a community spirit like that. read more

Have been a fan of Big Creek Coffee for several years! Always a great cup of coffee - from pour overs to lattes to espressos to drip. Hubby and I started visiting the Bitterroot back in 06- now we are regulars in the area at least 4 times a year. Big Creek remains a staple during our stays! Big Creek Coffee Roasters started in a garage in Hamilton MT. Over the past year, they opened a cafe' on Main Street in Hamilton. The amosphere is warm and comfortable and the coffee is rich, with a very distinct flavor. We have family that come to visit from the East Coast annually, where Star Bucks, Dunkin Donuts and local coffee shops are abundant. They make a point to visit Big Creek to buy the bagged coffee beans and fill their suitcases prior to leaving to go home. I consume a limited amount of caffine since the new year but enjoy stopping by Big Creek for my 10oz double shot latte (one regular / one decaf). The coffee is consistantly delicious...as well as the chocolate truffles made with Big Creek Coffee. Big Creek Coffee Roasters is one of the Bitterroot Valley gems! read more

If you're passing through or visiting Hamilton and you're craving good cup of coffee this is the place to stop! Big Creek could compete with any independent coffee shop in Seattle or Portland and it was a blessing to find them. We spent a week visiting family in Hamilton and nearly every morning we had to make our way to Big Creek to get our coffee fix. Nice people, nice atmosphere, and outstanding coffee. My quad-shot Americano couldn't have been better, and if you want decaf, you've got to try the pour-over. read more
