I bought a trough fountain from them that was almost $10,000. Two years later it is eroding and cracked and leaking. Basically falling apart. The limestone is like chalk. I had a terrible time getting the pump to work when I first bought it and was treated so rudely i went to another company to put it right. Might be great if their weekend hours were accurate so that you can actually go in. I have tried on 2 occasions, months apart, to go on a Saturday, when the website, message (via phone call) and yelp/google said "Open". It's not quick to get anywhere in Los Angeles so even coming from the Studio City area it was an hour trip to get down there on a Saturday. Both times...CLOSED. Both times, other people had also come thinking it was open. Get on your game and get your hours updated. It's unfair to customers making the drive and you're losing customers with every trip that you aren't open. If you're closed on Saturdays, SAY IT! read more

I have been a customer of Big Daddy's for a few years now and even attended a wedding there. I'm so upset I had to write this review, but I paid a lot of money for a limestone sink that was given to me so sloppily that I'm still in shock. Long story short- I purchased this trough to be converted to a sink, so it stayed behind for them to make the drain hole and sand out the inside. I was told by Art the manager (who I've worked with before) that it would be ready that following Monday, but he would call to let me know. Thursday comes and still no call. I call him and he says "oh it's being drilled literally as we speak, you can come pick it up today or tomorrow." I go the next day (Friday) and just their big warehouse sale. I had no idea and ended up waiting over an hour for someone who was supposed to be bringing it to my car. I kept checking bc I had a meeting to get to and it was hot and it has been AN HOUR already and was told multiple times "they're bringing it soon" "it's on its way, so sorry" etc. Finally, after my last attempt bc I had to get to this meeting, two guys come out with it soaking wet. The guy who drills the holes says to me "sorry I was on lunch, no one ever told me to drill this." So, I was lied to on the phone the day before when I was told it was being drilled as we spoke and I was lord to multiple times that day picking it up. The guy was at lunch and hadn't even drilled the hole. So, I'm assuming bc I was so angry at this point he rushed to drill it, sanded one side of this sink and not the other and brought it out to me still dirty. I didn't have time to even look at it bc I was in such a hurry. Now, this sink is unloaded and our contractor is shocked at how it looks. I have to pay extra to have a guy come out and finish this job and take our all of those chunky pieces. I emailed Art and asked about some money back to cover the cost of having someone out. He remembered me and how long I waited and his my sink wasn't ready. I sent pictures of the sink and was denied. We traded emails and when I asked him if he was actually proud to put their name behind this work and sell it to me I got no response back. I have met "Daddy" himself a few times, taken interior designer friends from the east coast here when they visit for sourcing trips, attended a wedding here and have been a repeat customer and they couldn't do me the courtesy of apologizing and discounting a product that honestly looks like shit. I'm so disappointed in how this turned out, but also that I was lied to my face instead of just telling me "hey it never got done and the guy is on lunch. Can you please come back after your meeting?" That would have been so simple and maybe I would have a sink they could stand behind. Also, two of these loose chunks were just floating around my trunk when we unloaded it, so some obviously got sanded off, but you can't tell me this looks good. So disappointing and can't recommend them bc of this awful customer service. read more

There's soooo much to see at Big Daddy's Antiques and they're constantly bringing in new items on the regular. Everything from furniture to tchotchkes, pictures and even motorcycles are stuffed into the gigantic space. Things are definitely on the pricier side, but most is in pretty good condition and if you can't find what you're looking for, there's a lot of staff that will help you find the pieces you may be seeking. It's pretty easy to get lost in here, especially since you may have to maneuver your way around bulky items, open cabinets or just a variety of items in your way. Don't forget to go and check out the plants outside, as there are a lot of succulents, statues, and other decor that could make your yard pop. Read about this place in a Sunset Magazine article last winter thought it sounded like a neat place to check out as Thomas Jefferson has a appreciation for "old" items. It can be hard to find this place if you don't know exactly what you are looking for I recommend calling ahead as the people that anwer the phone are SUPER friendly and helpful. Check out their website this is a virtual Gardners paradise for unusual planters, water fountains and pottery to be placed throughout your garden. It is VERY pricey so be prepared but you are looking at some magnificent items. Seems that whomever purchases for this place spends a lot of time on movie back lots because there are a LOT of professional old fashioned lights, room dividers that looked like something out of the movie "Citizen Kane" large dinner tables that coud easily be found in a dining room some where in a European Castle. One of the most eclectic places to shop at within Town & Country Village. The items on display here are as creative as they are unique and you'll have fun even walking around to get some inspiration for your home decor. The wood paneling details on some of the furniture pieces are pretty neat and make you appreciate how furniture is such a craft! The best part is the display items- all sorts of animal-themed items that make the house a fun place not just for kids but adults, too. Pro-tip try to park near Trader Joe's since there's way more parking out there and the walk is super short! Gotta think back to the other similar competing stores. There's Pier 1 Imports down in the LA area, which does carry some pretty eclectic items- one of my favorites being a single person hammock chair. But I guess that was when I was a bachelor. Now my idea of a splurge but must-needed furniture item is a round hammock swing that's big enough to fit me, the wife, and the kids. Also a puppy. Which brings me to my next point- before you pick out furniture, make sure you think about material! Cannot emphasize this enough- everything in a furniture store will always look pristine and clean, but have you given any thought to how long you want this piece? Will it look as good if it's white cotton and absorbs moisture like a sponge cake? Consider if a covering for the furniture piece is an option and/or if it would actually look nice. There's nothing like going to your uncle's house where a nice piece of furniture was covered with a nice cloth to protect it, then an older cloth was put over the nice cloth to protect the cloth, so that by the time they have an important guest coming and want to show off the original piece of furniture, it's already been worn down! Keep your timeline close to the front of your mind folks! Haley rocked!! And so did this venue! The coolest place ever for a wedding. As the mom of the bride, I was quite sceptical because of its vastness. It seemed too big for 100 people. But it was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere screamed LA hip!! And that's what my daughter wanted to convey to all of the out of town, Easterners and Midwesterners! We started outdoors with the ceremony, then off to the side patio for a cocktail hour. Moved inside where the antique store was transformed into an awesome dance club, with tables, chairs, sofas, giant beautiful bar and fantastic lighting. It was very impressive for all of our guests and had wonderful scenery for all the photos. We highly recommend this venue!! read more

beware of this place. my wife bought two chandeliers from here. she is a fairly savvy shopper and asked several times if these were old. she was told over and over they are old French crystal chandeliers and only thing that was done was rewriting them. she bought the pair and asked one last time marking sure they were authentically old. she was reassured they were infact old or the store would take them back. about 5-6 months later she walked into anthropology and low and behold she saw the same "antique" chandeliers there. inquiring about them she was told they were made to look old and in-fact they are contemporary to add insult to injury they were 1/3 of the price of what she paid. she called the owner and he blatantly lied and hung up on her. so yeah basically fuck this place, the owners and their antique products. buyer beware! read more

I haven't been here.I'm sure if I have my review would be five stars but this review is just based on one thing.Please update your information.Here on yelp it said you were closed,on google it said opened.So I called the store and they don't let you speak to an employee but have an automated message with the location and store hours which said it was opened today.I checked twice to make sure I heard the hours correctly (because I live an hr out) and decided to make the drive since I got the hrs straight from the stores automated message (and 2 out of the 3 sites I checked said they were opened) anyways...needless to say I drove an hr out just to find that they were closed.Please please please update your information,I'm a Mom and it's not easy for all of your customers to just go out and visit.But I do look forward to going:) read more

This is both a unique, hip antique store and a wonderful place to hold an event. We've been to two school silent auctions and both times were a magical experience. The backdrop of large, vintage items was a perfect setting to host a gala, with catering, an open bar, a DJ, and plenty of room for dancing and mixing with friends. I would like to start by saying, this store sells beautiful furniture. They should stick to furniture sales. However, they do offer event rentals. If we could have actually gotten them to respond to us, I think we could have had an amazing wedding there! In the beginning, the event director informed me she only worked Monday through Wednesday. I thought she must mean formally, in the office. However, she responded to emails only M-W during business hours, and often Tuesday evening to an email sent Friday. Even still, I loved the venue so much, I pushed through and overlooked so much awful service in hopes this would be our spot, and not a cheap one may I add. We were quoted 25,000 for 120 guests. My breaking moment, was when our final quote was $3000 dollars above the highest of the $7000 dollar range they had previously given us, and could not get anyone to responded to out questions for 4 days. Had someone been attentive in anyway, we would have been on our way to being married at Big Daddy's. Instead, we were reminded that, "Big Daddy's in no way makes money off weddings. The only incentive for these events is to promote theirs furniture business." As a bride you deserve to feel special. My advice is to do that. Elsewhere. read more

Big Daddy's Antiques was number one on my list of potential wedding venues. We wound up choosing another venue as a compromise - parents wanted a more traditional place. I'm just the bride, not like my opinion actually counts right? ;) I wanted to write about my positive experience nevertheless in case potential brides get discouraged by the negative reviews. I communicated with Hayley, the event coordinator, solely through e-mail primarily, but I never had an issue reaching her. She replied to my e-mails on the same day without fail. I found her to be flexible, mindful, and patient. I got an initial quote based on the number of guests. Hayley did explain that the initial quote could change given what we'd want to do with the place. I found the initial quote to be reasonable given that it included set up and cleaning fee. Some notable aspects about Big Daddy's as a wedding venue is that their parking space is limited. So if you're going to have a lot of guests, you'll have to set up a valet service for them. There also isn't central air. I believe that when one scouts Big Daddy's as a wedding venue, it's best to remember that it's first and foremost an antiques warehouse. You'll also need to be responsible in setting up event insurance. Weddings can be held on any day; there isn't a cheaper alternative if you were to choose a weekday versus a Saturday. I believe Big Daddy's is a winner if you know that your wedding guests are more open minded and laid back. It's extremely unique and totally customizable. I don't think the venue is on the champagne end of a wedding budget, but it's not the cheapest option around either. I feel like it's definitely a viable option for a budget conscious bride who wants something different though. read more

You will either be ignored (via email or phone), not get a reply or if you want to look on the bright side, someone might get back to you maybe 2 weeks after the timeline that's promised to you. Okay, seriously? How does one store carry so many amazing items? The wife and I met the owners and staff in the San Francisco store and ended up checking out their website to see a lot of the items they have in stock down in the Los Angeles store. This is some of the coolest stuff I've seen in a while. We purchased a couple pieces from the SF store and found the prices to be very reasonable. It's not cheap art, and the prices were actually better than most antique shops. The wife and I will be in LA next month for a wedding and plan to stop in to Big Daddy's LA shop to see it firsthand. (It's always so much more amazing when the things are right in front of you...) Shane, the owner, told us that the LA store is a little out of the way, but isn't all of the good stuff like that? Great selection of antiques, some not new but looks refurb. I could have been here for hours easily. They display the items well but my ADD got lost in the first section. I"ll have to check it out again after coffee and be willing to stay for 5 hours to actually see everything. The prices were a bit high on some items. I've seen the same stuff cheaper at different locations but they have some unique items that will blow your mind. The staff is super nice and helpful. What can I say. I'm attracted to antique furniture. The piece we purchased had this old world rustic charm, yet it looked sophisticated. The experience at shopping at dogmar was exceptional. I would definitely buy from them again. Added bonus, we got to see a few celebrities in the store. I love Big Daddy's AntiquesI have been collecting from Big Daddy's since Shane the owner, had a little stand at the Santa Monica Flea Market 20 year's ago. I still have some of the special pieces I got back then, and still love them. Big Daddy's is like a huge treasure chest. Everything is special and unique, and it's just worth a trip over there to look around and get inspired. I recently had a table custom made from them. Arthur helped me to create just what I wanted. He was amazing at understanding what my vision was and executing it. I am very picky and they even let me check in with the factory as the table was being made. They wanted to make sure they got it exactly right. I am so happy with my table, I just love it! My table is made from reclaimed wood and was given a grey wash. I recently referred my brother and sister-in-law and they had a large custom wood and metal coffee table made that they just love too. Whether you need a big custom piece or a finishing vintage trinket for your coffee table, Big Daddy's is absolutely the place to go! read more

This store is really amazing. It's a large warehouse and they have a good selection of huge pieces. I'm not sure who in LA has a house big enough to own anything in this place, but it sure isn't me! Honestly, I found the store kinda eery and unsettling. Unlike most antique stores, this has mostly open space with a few cool items but since it's so large and empty it made me feel uneasy. I walked around a good 20 minutes before anyone even bothered saying anything to me. The place was basically deserted while I was there. look out...if you buy anything from them you are on your own. We bought a old case to put our cloths in for our place in France. They said they would clean the inside before they shipped it to us. Not only did they not clean it but they never unlocked the case doors, shipped it to France with no key !!!!! It took three days to open it....when I returned to the state , I asked to be repaid for the cost of the locksmith. They took three weeks to get back to me , even after five calls to them. When they did get back to me they said there was nothing that they will do. There help is lame and they lie....good luck. read more

This is one of the most unique collections of antiques and "oddities" that I've ever seen. Huge place. Like that it's off the beaten path. Pricey but an experience and selection that cannot compare to anything else. Nice people to help on the floor but if you want to get anything done, ask for Brenda. they do custom work as well that is First Rate.
