Visited cedar keys while on vacation from Texas. Place seemed more like a bar but they had the most versatile kids menu and had cedar key clams on the menu at the lowest price on the strip so the decision was made to eat here. The food was good.... We ordered the two dozen steamed clams, garlic shrimp; the kids ordered the quesadilla and fries w/ cheese. The clams were awesome and the kids even liked the "no thank you bite" that we encouraged them to eat. The shrimp was over cooked and dry. Flavor was good but we sent it back. Ordered the shrimp po boy and it was way better! The cheese fries and quesadilla were pretty decent. The fries were good as an appetizer. The beers were really good.... I had the electric eel from magic hat brewery my fiancé had the dark oil ( dark coffee flavored stout beer). The service was great! We had a very attentive and empathetic waitress and she was also very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us with our food decisions. Came here for late night. Beer selection was alright and ordered raw oysters and curly fries. The oysters didn't seem shucked that greatly and had some grit. Curly fries tasted burnt and lacked seasoning. They also had live music, which is a deal maker or breaker for some people. read more

This bar is simple and cheap. Food is so good but don't come here expecting fine dining. This is a great spot to grab a quick affordable bite to eat and a cold cheap beer!!! Has a decent view with fresh air but nothing fancy!! AT ALL!!! just enjoy the locals and that's about it. Food though is great like I said and the staff is super nice. read more

Two stars because the clams were decent. But otherwise, run away. Frozen grouper in a 'seafood' town- sides are fried or cole slaw or potato salad. No kids menu, so had to get the kids double cheeseburgers with that fake cheese. On styrafoam. With forks in plastic. At the end of the meal we are told cash only. read more

It's a little bar shack with a patio. Picnic tables outside covered in bird poop, if I had been with a different dining partner, we would have left right then but we wanted to eat with our dog and they are a pet friendly establishment (only reason they get 3 instead of 2 stars). Couldn't decide on the Oyster or Shrimp po boy so we got them both and shared. I was under the impression that a po boy is on a long grinder/hoagie/sub roll. This was just some fried fish on a hamburger bun. No remoulade, no aioli just containers of Ken's brand prepackaged tartar and cocktail sauce. Got curly fries and potato salad that were both just OK. Beer is cheap and I imagine it's a great place to just set up for the day. I can't blame them for this but if you can't stand the idea of a bird pooping on your table while you eat, this joint isn't for you. I simply cleaned it up but it was very unappetizing. Also you can smoke everywhere in the place so little kids or asthmatics might find it undesirable. read more

I WANT to give this place a better rating...so consider my review a 2-3 star. The band and people-watching couldn't be beat. They engaged the crowd, were lively and played a variety of really great music. If we hadn't eaten or needed more than 1 drink, this review would look alot different. Our waitress was friendly and chatty but we saw her only when we waved our arms and caught her direct eye contact. Literally. We had to stand and wave. The beer was cold (tho not offered with a glass) but the drinks were standard (weak vodka&tonic). The food was not worth writing home about and items that were not fried, were definitely not fresh. Prices are good though. So the true bottom line here: come for the live music and fun times; you won't be disappointed. But come well-fed and not thirsty :) read more

Came on a cold, rainy night and we both ordered burgers. They were big, cooked perfectly and yummy. Unfortunately the curly fries were soggy which was good for me because I'm trying to lose weight and they didn't tempt me in the least and I am a HUGE fry fan! Because it was so cool it was hard getting comfortable on the metal chairs and the semi-enclosed patio...I am looking forward to coming back & sitting outside in the sun! read more

Maybe it's because my expectations built up from the reviews was to high. BUT...they said it's the best seafood this side of dock st. It wasn't. The blackened grouper sandwich and curly fries tasted as good as a land locked restaurant in Chicago. Sorry Yelpers who loved it. However, you can never base a decision off a single review. Stormy day-our first choice location was closed for an undisclosed reason so we headed in for some food and libations hoping for live music. The house margaritas were pretty standard and my husband stuck to the beers. We had the Cedar Key clam appetizer, oyster po-boy, and crab cake sandwich. Only half the clams were opened after steaming so I asked them to be put back in the steamer-they did, but they were just not yummy. The sandwiches were both okay. Pros-service was great, waitress was friendly, attentive, and on point. Pet friendly-but bring whatever you need as nothing was offered (I had my own dish, water, food & treats). Cons-food was just okay. The scheduled live music didn't show up, and it got expensive fast. I'd still go again. read more

I ate here once while on vacation with my friends. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp and they were amazing! The reason I am leaving 3 stars however, is because they advertise themselves as a "raw bar" yet they do no offer raw oysters. Or clams if I remember correctly. They are only fried. I was super disappointed by this. Please either change your name if you are going to continue to NOT HAVE RAW OYSTERS, or put them on your menu. read more

We like to visit this place! Live music all day and night. Which is excellent! The only problem is they do not serve dessert. And the Side deck does not get prompt service. We really like this restaurant! Our favorite orders are the steamed shrimp (either way garlic or plain), the grilled fish, the mushroom/swiss burger, and the fried shrimp. Was treated very well here after arriving pretty late with my fiance, only 10 minutes until the kitchen was closed. we waited over an hour at Duncans on the beach before coming here.. pet friendly so we were able to bring our dog on the patio, we ordered chicken quesadillas and they came with onions, peppers, sour cream and salsa. They were really good! Staff was super friendly and even met a few friendly locals who frequent the establishment. They saved our night, that's for sure! Will definitely be back here! read more

OK, it's a dive bar - plastic cups & utensils, paper plates, tables that may have been wiped yesterday. A family feud at the next table got a bit loud, but on the other hand, several dogs were enjoying their bowls of water so presumably nothing was serious. My crab cake sandwich was okay but spouse's ribs were lukewarm and 2/3 fat. Potato salad was okay but the slaw tasted as though it had been made a few days ago. We went here after going to Duncan's which was way overpriced.....we loved the Tito's bloody Mary's ..well made..and ordered the blackened grilled shrimp....awesome fresh taste and priced fair..well worth it.. Today I was able to get waited on. I got iced tea and peel and eat shrimp. The shrimp were good, you just do not get many. The service was pretty slow when it came to refills and my check. It is not like the place is packed. When you go out to enjoy yourself, you should be able to enjoy yourself. Is this too much to ask? read more

We ate there last night for dinner based on the other reviews we read. Food was good, they didn't have much to accommodate gluten free so I just got a salad but my husband loved his burger. Prices are good and the service was good. The live music was the best part of the experience. It was a local band called Next a'kin playing and they were fabulous. read more

Staff was friendly and food came out fast but food was eh. I got a shrimp Po Boy sandwich and it came in a ordinary hamburger bun with fried shrimp, slices of lettuce and a tomato, tasteless. It should have been called a fried shrimp sandwich not a Po Boy. In my experience a po boy has more flavor, a sauce and the bread that is usually a hoagie or a nice tasty bread. Well after visiting this place the last time we were here, and having such a positive experience, we couldn't wait to get checked into our motel and then head here for drinks before dinner. When we walked up, we waited for a minute to see whether we could seat ourselves or if we needed to wait on someone. When no one acknowledged us, we started to walk to a table and I caught the eye of the bartender. I politely asked if we could just grab a seat and without even answering my question she, with a MAJOR attitude, said it's going to be at least 40 mins for food if you want it. And then quickly went on to talking to the other employee about how backed up everything was. Well first off, I didn't ask about food..secondly, she IMMEDIATELY turned me off. I had read other reviews before, but had a good experience the last time we were here. I usually try to at least give a place a try first before completely making up my mind. Well, we WONT be back. We turned around and left. We walk by here every time we come now and don't even think twice about NOT going here. We ended up across the street at Steamers, with bartender Mary who welcomed us with smiles, great drinks and good conversation. Sad, because we really enjoyed Big Deck the last time we were here, but after the chilly, "huff and puff" reception we got from the bartender before we even sat down, we'll pass right on by every time. read more

We had a great time at Big Deck this past Saturday night! We arrived shortly before a live band (Under the Covers from Ocala, FL) began which seemed to be the perfect time to show up. This little restaurant and bar has an open air dining area in the bay side of Dock St. in downtown Cedar Key. I was craving peel n' eat shrimp and this was top notch shrimp here - seasoned lightly with Old Bay and served with drawn butter. My husband got an awesome blackened grouper sandwich and curly fries. They had some special beers on draft and my husband got a terrific oatmeal pecan porter on our waitress's recommendation.
