Since we had an appointment around dinner time in Lockport we decided it would behoove us to just stay in the area for dinner. We hadn't tried this location of Big Ditch yet, so we chose Big Ditch for the evening. Having been to Big Ditch in Buffalo many, many.... many times before, the quality and service were no surprise. Food is good, service is good, beers (although I can't drink them anymore) I'm sure are good. One of the more pleasing parts of the evening is the location this Big Ditch was built into. Historic building in the middle of town; a lot for someone interested in history, architecture and art. The dinning and bar area is spacious. Visited Big Ditch Brewing Company before a Sabres game and the atmosphere was definitely energetic and packed with fans ready for puck drop. I ordered a BBQ chicken finger burger and it was seriously delicious, perfectly cooked, loaded with flavor, and exactly what you want before a hockey game. The real surprise though was the blueberry beer. Mouth wateringly good. Smooth, refreshing, I went in expecting "oh this might be kinda fruity" and left contemplating whether I should dedicate my life to blueberries. Second time here. First time they were newer to Lockport and everything was great. Not today. Service was slow. Yes they were kinda busy but nothing crazy. One person in our party can't have dairy, but when her plate came out there was sauce she couldn't eat. The wait staff even helped pick out dairy-free sauce. Another member ordered salmon and it was absolutely raw. So both dishes had to be sent back. The Reuben sandwich was ok. Kinda dry, so I asked for a side of 1000-island dressing. Maybe 1/3 full. I heard so many mixed reviews (about food and setting) before coming here, so I was nervous. However, I was very happy with the service, ambiance, and food. Nice ambience. Diversified Menu. Food had absolutely no flavor. Bacon in BLT was cooked far in advance, bread was falling apart, forgot to put mayo on sandwich. Fries were not fresh just warmed up and over done. Deep fried chicken over smoked macaroni and cheese looked great but had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Coffee was cold and never replaced. Our waitress was so incredibly busy as I think she was handling all of the downstairs tables. She checked on me several times, asking whether I needed a water refill and promptly brought me another when requested. She managed all of the tables very well!!! We ordered the nacho platter, having seen one on another table. It looked quite impressive. The chips were piled high with red onions, tomatoes and fresh jalapeños liberally covering the nacho chips. There was a lot of crema over everything. We did not run into "dry chips" until we were very close to the bottom of the pile. I noticed the shredded cheddar hiding at the bottom of the nachos. I wish there had been more cheddar throughout the nachos, with the tomatoes, onions and jalapeños. I think cheddar has more flavor than crema. We did not add chicken or beef(small upcharge). We were here for the first anniversary of this location. There was a raffle and we had tickets, but I could not hear the announcer who was in the upper level of the restaurant. We were seated in the lower level. There were First Anniversary cupcakes. Our waitress was very nice and brought us a to-go container of a couple of cupcakes as it was not clear when and where the cupcakes cakes were going to be brought out. Having heard about the new location of Big Ditch, my wife and I decided to check it out while in the area. We were very impressed with the beautiful building this business is located in. Upon entering, we weren't sure where to go, but saw a staff member and were immediately seated. Later on, I learnt that there was a huge bar and game area below. They have a huge variety of beer, and I initially thought I would choose a flight. Not being a big drinker though, and knowing what I like (stouts and porters), I just got a porter, whereas my wife got a stout. Both were delicious. I also ordered a green Chile smash burger, which was one of the best burgers Ive had. I don't go to Big Ditch too often, but in the few times I have been there, every dish had their flavors married together perfectly. Mostly, breweries ace in the alcohol and just have mediocre to average food. Big Ditch does this differently though, and I appreciate them for that. The area we were seated in was beautiful to where we sat down and just looked around, while waiting for our food. The staff was very attentive and friendly too. First off, I have to say, I love that they opened Big Ditch in the old post office. It's such a beautiful building! When we walked in we were promptly greeted and told there were tables available inside or a 15 minute wait to sit outside. We opted to sit outside, so we headed to the upstairs bar for a drink; there is also a bar in the basement that I think is only open on the weekend. The bartender was friendly. Amongst our group, we had a cider, a sour beer and a margarita. All of them were good. They offer smaller pours (I think it was 5oz) as well as flights. We were texted when our table was ready. You can't transfer your bar tab to your table, so you have to cash out first. After seated out on the patio, it took a little bit for our waitress to arrive; apparently there was some confusion about the table numbers. The menu is a pretty basic bar menu; apps, burgers, salads, sandwiches. After we ordered, our food arrived in a decent amount of time. We got a Reuben, roast beef with gf bun and a burger. With the sides of fries, you are given an option of different aoilis and I opted for a vinegar one. It was pretty good and an interesting option to have. My friend who got the gf roll said it was good and did not fall apart like she experiences with many gf rolls. My Reuben tasted good and was not dried out. The burger was enjoyed. I think all of our dishes came with a pickle spear, which I saved for last because I love a good pickle. Welp, here came the disappointment. The pickle was so mushy it could barely be picked up, but I persisted so I could get a bite. It had good flavor, but the texture was horrible! It was so soft I could have chewed it with ease had I not had any teeth. All in all this was a good experience, but I will be very hesitant about the pickles should I visit again. We've been here three times. The first was opening weekend so we had a bit of a wait but less time than expected. The next two times we came with a group, once on a Wednesday and once on a Sunday. We had no wait one time and a short time the next. Service is consistently great. So is the food. I love the blueberry lemonade and the bourbon smash. It was our first time at the Lockport location and they did a wonderful job keeping the history of the building and town at the forefront of the building and decor. We arrived at 530 on a Saturday evening and were seated immediately. This is a sizable location, with outdoor seating available and lots of parking in the back. There are pictures of the old days on the Erie Canal, and several TVs. I ordered a pint of Lockport Extra Special which is similar to an English ale, and it was very good. My choice for dinner was the breuben sandwich, which comes with fresh cut fries, and a choice of dipping sauces for the fries. The serving was plentiful and satisfying. We were in town visiting family and doing some college tours. Visiting Big Ditch was a welcome surprise! The venue is unexpectedly stunning. The bathrooms were spotless. This is a welcome addition to Lockport, New York. They did a beautiful job converting the space, which has so much room and covers multiple floors. The food was good and on brand with the downtown location. We really liked the Gaucho sandwich and the dippers. Not pictured is an amazing Pineapple Burner beer, which is a take on their famous Hay Burner. It's delicious and refreshing. Hit or miss for us, but after this last experience I think I'm done. First off, I want to say that we recently called about possibly reserving a table for a smaller retirement gathering (maybe 10 people), and they sounded irritated. They told us they can't reserve tables, which is fine. But they didn't have to be annoyed with the question. How do we know if we don't ask? It was like they were trying to deter us from coming. Unfortunately, we still went and sat at the bar. The bartender (bold tattooed eyebrows and lip filler) was great at first, but later on, she was noticeably rolling her eyes at us and slamming the drinks and food down on the bar. She seemed more than happy to serve the other people there. The place was a ghost town otherwise (4-6pm on Tuesday night). Maybe we should've taken our business across the street to Lock like we usually do (and will in the future). They've never once been annoyed with us. I've been here MANY times since opening. Almost every time, we've seen large party gatherings clearly celebrating something. Graduations, retirement, etc. Maybe they also walked in, but I saw decorations up and everything one of those times. Food is inconsistent. I would LOVE the fresh cut fries they serve, but EVERY single time it's like we get the bottom of the barrel. Entirely small, burnt/crunchy pieces. I liked the Mac and cheese but the crispy chicken that came with it had a gross rubbery texture. I've had the Seoul Fire chicken sandwich a couple of times and that was good. Burgers are hit or miss. The service is OK (aside from the incident listed above). We haven't had any major issues. The one time our waitress was friendly and attentive but VERY pushy. Like far beyond the usual light-hearted joking while trying to upsell. How many times do we have to tell you "NO" to a getting a type of beer we clearly don't want, taking growlers home, taking dessert home...etc. read more

Big ditch in Lockport is located in the beautifully restored historic post office. It's a real treat just to walk in the door. Take it all in. Walk around both floors and the main lobby. It really tells the story of Lockport and what made the city famous. On top of that. The food is great. Really good beef on weck, French dip, the Reuben, chicken wings, all are fantastic. As a sidenote, they have a gluten-free pizza that you won't believe is gluten-free. Everyone there is friendly and attentive.. I have been to this location 4 times since they have opened and have had patience with them working out some things as they were new, but nothing has improved. A 45 minute wait while we can visibly see multiple tables open? Fine, maybe someone called off work, the bar was busy so we thought we would go to the downstairs bar, and it's completely closed. Two out of my four visits they have been out of grilled chicken... which is a staple on the menu and an add on option.... Oh and Cooperstown is misspelled both downstairs on the wall and above the upstairs bar...... If this location can't figure out staffing and food supply it will not survive. I'll take my business across the street to Lock 34 when in Lockport. read more

Great new spot in Lockport! We have been to the original and wanted to try the new location. It's a beautiful building, and they did a great job with renovations. We took my 7 month old and I appreciated that there was a changing table in the downstairs bathroom, which is surprisingly uncommon I am learning. We got a "flight of five" which is a nod to the locks. The beers were great! We loved the strawberry vision and the carrot cake. We also got the pretzel bites which were perfectly cooked. I got the bacon bbq burger and my husband got the regular burger with bacon. Both were very good. We are excited to have another good spot in our area. read more

Only giving 4 stars because I thought the inside was like a college dining room. No personality. Big noisy space. I ate outside. That was perfect. Nice & cool even on a hot Summer day. I give 5 stars for the food & my Server. I had a French Vanilla beer that was to die for. It almost tasted like coffee, but beer. This way truly one of the best beers I have had in a couple of years. For lunch I had the Fried Green Tomato sandwich. Not greasy. I truly would have thought I was in a Southern restaurant with this one. Crispy crust around the tomatoes. Nice sauce. Toasted bread. My daughter was interested in trying the new place out. We had Matt as our server. Nice young man..... My Son went with the pepperoni pizza, which seemed okay. My daughter went with the bbq burger, with onion straws, and I had the steak grinder. We shared an order of chicken wings also..... My daughter, who usually has her burgers still moooing, said it was burnt beyond recognition, a piece of semi- raw bacon, and yes, no onion strawzzz...... never even took a bite. They took it back, and off the bill. The wings,.... Ehh. Weren't even shaken. Just a few drops of franks on them. .....as for the grinder, don't even ask.... My cousin and I stopped here for lunch yesterday and decided on each ordering a different hamburger and splitting them. Both had such great flavor, but the double classic smash burger was top notch! When you think of a classic American burger, that's what this is. The fries were good too, just a touch too much salt, but all in all everything was fantastic. We have eaten at big ditch 5 times and I never had anything I would get again. I did order the nachos twice, but only because I forgot I tried them already and was disappointed. They issue is they give you too big a pile of chips without even distribution. They have way too many huge raw jalapenos and the pico is not seasoned. The sandwiches I tried were the Reuben which was a sloppy mess and the pimento cheese with friend green tomato. They were served on dry toast when each should be a grilled sandwich. The best thing I ordered was a tex mex bowl served on wild rice. It really just needed more seasoning or something to blend the flavors. My husband gets the burgers which are the best bet. It is disappointing, because we really love coming here for the Wed music. It is a cool venue in an old post office, so it is fun to look around. The service was okay considering you have to walk up from your table and order at the bar. The one bartender who is there is always friendly and working her butt off. I'm going to qualify this review by stating that this is only their second day, so hopefully they will iron out the kinks. The food was mediocre at best. If you are expecting an experience like the original location on Huron-you're not going to get it. The service is very good. No problem with that. The ambiance is great too! Nice and bright-large open dining area and bar. There's a downstairs room also, which we didn't check out. There were four of us-the Cobb salad looked great, as did the pork and broccoli rabe sandwich. The chicken wing dip pizza was disappointing-very dry and not much flavour. French fries need work-arrived lukewarm and soggy. Beer was good. There's ample parking just north of the restaurant at the Cornerstone arena. Side note-the address is One East Avenue, Lockport. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. Let me preface by saying that in my 38 years, I've only left a zero-dollar tip once before--today marks the unfortunate second time. First, I want to acknowledge that the food itself was very good. Our frustration lies entirely with the service. By the time our meal arrived--just a burger, salad, and two kids' meals--we had already been waiting for 67 minutes. But what pushed our experience over the edge was our waitress's unnecessary commentary when my daughter requested her third chocolate milk. Keep in mind, we had already been there for over an hour with no food served yet. The waitress returned to our table three separate times to question this simple request, adding an eye roll and snide comments like "Really?" and "That's a lot." It's unacceptable to shame customers--especially children--for a simple refill, particularly when they're waiting so long for their meal. The combination of this wait time and rude treatment prompted my decision for a zero-dollar tip, something extremely rare for me. Good food doesn't make up for poor, judgmental service. Disappointing and entirely unnecessary. *Update* Thank you for your thoughtful response--I really appreciate you taking the time to address our experience. We were in from out of town for a hockey game next door and am very glad we stopped in. The space is really impressive, the service was great, and the food was outstanding. I would say the reuben was one of the best ones I have ever had, and I have had a lot over the years. The pizza, nachos, and beers were also great.
