There are varying reviews for Big Dog, either love or hate. The gunsmith was awesome, I had two sights mounted, the prices were below three quotes I received. Most gunsmiths want double if you did not buy the sight from them. The work was done on sight on a Saturday with minimal wait. I found mags that are hard to find and cheaper than MSRP. I did not buy a firearm, the prices were higher than ordering online for the weapon that I wanted. Reviewers felt pressured by associates that are aggressive, I encounter two. I took it as them wanted to ensure my needs were met. I recommend visiting on a weekday Monday-Thursday, less foot traffic and the associates are more chill. I will definitely be back. read more

This place is has the energy of a sleezy car dealership. All of the workers are extremely pushy, won't leave you alone, and think they know it all. They do have a great selection of guns, ammo, and accessories, BUT the predatory and pompous attitude of the employees make this store a no-go. One of my favorite gun stores for looking. It's like going to a museum you can buy things at. You can also buy unique caliber ammo. They have a lot as well. The off the shelf production guns are standard prices. Truth in advertising... The dogs are big. I've seen people freak out when they open the door and see 125 lb Rottweiler on the other side of the glass. The store had all great reviews 4 years ago. They were targeted by an anti gun group who filed complaints with the state for non mask compliance. I was there... The salesmen were very patient. The "shopper" was completely unreasonable. Her issues were masks and she felt threatened by people wearing guns in a gun shop. It was a classic Karen situation. read more

AWESOME gun store! When you walk in you are greeted and everyone speaks to you and makes sure your questions are answered and that you are getting the best customer service available. This is definitely my store of choice from now on. Ill be headed back this weekend to drop of my Micro Draco to get custom painted along with a folding brace. If you like guns i suggest only bringing in one credit card because this place will make you go crazy with the amount of inventory they have. I haven't been hunting since my dad passed away in 2002. This was my first shotgun bought as an adult. I'm 70 now and have not kept up with anything more modern than a Mossberg. But still, I didn't appreciate the attitude of the salesman that somehow I wasn't ready for a real gun. Maybe when I'm a hundred? So I ended up buying one that he suggested and ammo. Got home, read the manual, and discovered that one of the pins inside was bent; it couldn't eject properly after you racked it. Looking for suggestions online to fix this, I noticed that I paid about $100 more for the gun than the regular retail price. The gun was still eligible for return, so I called the store and always got an answering machine after my second email asking for help got no response. My neighbor who's a retired drill sergeant said he'd go take me over to explain the problem. But we decided why give them any more money and instead decided to find a good gun repair shop. Which is how I ended up back here and leaving Big Dog a review. Because they're really full of themselves and other stuff, I recommend avoiding them all together. Great selection of firearms, ammo and accessories! Service and product knowledge is top notch too. They usually have a good supply of magazines on hand if that's what you're going there for. Expect to pay more than the cheapest price that you can find on the internet. But, you get to physically handle the mags, check for fitment and they are in stock, which is a huge plus for me. read more

So... I go to this store to pickup an item that was transferred there. I walk in to the store and am approached by an armed employee that says "I'm going to have to ask you to remove your mask.". I look around and there's about 5 employees there all carrying firearms. I'm like wait what about COVID-19 and the mandate to wear face masks. He says "This is a gun store...let it sink in.". I looked around and noticed about six other customers there without face masks. One guy just shakes his head. I reluctantly removed it and backed away from everyone until I was able to retrieve my product. I watched as people wiped their noses with their hands, then touch other people and handle merchandise. A serious crock-pot for COVID-19 virus. Consider yourself warned. If I didn't have to go there, I wouldn't have gone inside. They could have easily asked me to briefly display my face. There were numerous armed employees there as well as cameras. I should not have to risk my life just to retrieve a product from a location like this. Never again. read more

I had previously given them a low score as I was angry at being given ammo I couldnt use anywhere; Both rifle ranges in the area prohibit steel core, this is what I was sold after mentioning I would be going to one. Due to my own inexperience I did not check. Nevertheless, they treated me fairly and gave me a fair price on the goods that I purchased. I will still have to dock points for being sold something that likely will never be used- so if you do business here make sure you know exactly what you're getting is what you want. read more

This store is a RIP off. Overpriced items that are disguised within a clean storefront. Staff there have ranged from friendly and not very knowledgeable to somewhat knowledgeable with a shitty attitude and lots of ego. I had a horrible transfer experience and said I wouldn't go back. Being that it was one of the few gun shops in the area, I decided to try again. Second experience wasn't any better. If you are expecting a shop ran by shooters, this isn't it. I have been seeing posting from this location and live down the street. I decided to stop in and check out what they have to offer. I walked in and was told to remove my mask for the camera then put it back on. As I walked around I heard sales folks saying no pictures are allowed to be taken inside the store. I thought this was unusual but whatever it's their store and they can set the rules. As I walked around I noticed lots and I mean lots of price gouging. Guns were retail price or a few hundred over. An example was a Berretta 96X i was looking at this place wanted $1700 plus for but I just bought the gun a week earlier from Trojan Arms and Tactical in Manassas for $1200. Next was the prices of ammo and listening to the salesman explain to me how rare ammo is and why is was so high. I am in the firearms industry and know the market very well and know the prices this place is charging for guns or ammo are crazy!! Go to a place like Trojan Arms or GFR in Fredericksburg. They will treat you right and are not overpriced. This place was selling 9mm practice for a $1 a round. Trojan sells a box of 50 for 19.99. I am not sure how they are staying in business except the uninformed folks are buying from here. Just my two cents on this place however they can price however they want it's their establishment. Same thing about the confrontational "request" to remove my C19 mask, no problem, its their store and they can make the rules. A nice lady accommodated me as I explained I was hearing impaired and she spoke up so I could hear her which was very kind. They did have an item I needed at a fair price. The men on staff there all seemed a bit nervous, skittish, maybe they lack confidence and people skills. Next time I will call first to see if they had what I needed before I visited the store again. read more

My husband wanted a scope for his birthday and wanted to go to this establishment to purchase it. He wanted a particular scope but it was on back order. Went in a few days ago to buy my very first gun. I was concerned about the "kick". The salesman sold me a gun that he said kicked to the side when shot, instead of back. Sounded good to me. I bought it, shot it two days alter, and lo and behold it does NOT kick to the side. So, I was completely lied to. Most gun shops specialize in a few categories and their AR accessories are almost always lacking, which leads us to buy our gear online. Both times I went into Big Dog they had EXACTLY what I was looking for from Magpul which no other store in the DC area ever even carried. They had plenty of magazines, a good selection of ammo and of course, counters and walls filled with firearms from every relevant manufacturer. I also discovered they are also partnered with Stripper Clip Gunsmithing, a local gunsmith shop started by two DC area gunsmiths from a former custom shop. You can bring your gun in, explain what you are wanting to do, drop it off and pick it up at the store once the work is completed (while grabbing a few boxes of ammo to enjoy your upgrades with).
