Great group of guys helped me with my first gun purchase and made me feel at ease during the whole process highly recommend

After many many bad encounters at this store, it was inevitable that I wrote this review. The employees 9 times out of 10 are rude and have absolute horrible customer service. They're slow and will stand there and act like you're not there. When they do interact with you, they act like you have no idea what you're talking about and that they are god tier operators, when in fact, it is quite the opposite. Secondly, their firearm prices are quite inflated and you can get a better price just about anywhere else. Their parts selection sucks and they act like they are not grateful for your money spent there. I'd highly advise against going to this god awful establishment they like to call a business. read more

Beware of the return policy that is hidden behind the counter, not visible to the consumer. They charge you a restocking fee (again, not displayed properly) and when contested, the manager brandished a taser and screamed to leave the store, tried keeping the item and the money I paid for the said item. Thankfully, with local police help, I was able to get the item back. Stay away from this place, plenty of other reputable businesses around. read more

I spent my 21st birthday here! The absolute best, Anthony and Lenny are the sweetest! But I love all the people who work here. I've been to every firearm store from Richmond to Manassas and this one is my FAVORITE ever! I bought all of my friends on my birthday and we purchased several guns that day! Employees were rude'ish on the phone- evidently annoyed that someone dare call to check on the status of a FFL transfer after they received it SEVEN DAYS ago. Slowest dealer on earth, and at $40 a pop, they're proud of it. That said, selection is quite nice and employees were polite if they were paying attention to you. From now on I'll go to a store that treats me like they want my business, and that I'm not something they'll get to when they aren't busy doing whatever else. read more

I went to the Stafford location after my first stop on Marine Corps Base Quantico yielded no gains. My first firearm buying experience was a good and expensive one. I've always wanted to build up my stock, but didn't know when would be a good time. But I will say this, buying a firearm is like opening up a can of Pringles, once you pop, you can't stop. I bought three weapons, a Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0, a Ruger EC9 for my wife, and a Remington 870DM shotgun. I wanted to buy additional items to go along with it, if you're going to get things, might as well get them all at once. I got a holster for my S&W, a carrying bag for the shotgun, a carrying bag for my wife's Ruger, and I asked about magazines for my 870DM and was showed a ProMag 12 gauge 10-round magazine. I bought it and took everything home. I showed my Veterans Affairs (VA) disabled ID card and my drivers license. I was not offered a military discount. I figured it was busy (which it was definitely) and that they did not offer the discount. After showing my VA ID and not getting the discount, I didn't even ask. It's when I got home and tried to use the ProMag magazine that I found it did not work with the weapon. I had to return the mag and understood that there would be a 15% restocking fee and I read in the website that it was 14 days or something? I forget. I live 30 minutes away, so I went in early one morning to make the return only to be told that after 7 days it was too late, and then told that magazines were not returnable. I didn't know what to do honestly, I just offered the magazine over to them. I had no use for it. I decided to purchase two additional mags for my wife's EC9 and took a look at an S&W M&P-15 Sport II. I was set on buying it before trying to return the magazine. Every American gun owner should have one I thought to myself. I hate to say it, but not offering a refund for the magazine turned me off. Even if they charged a 15% restocking fee, I would have been fine. I handed back the M&P-15 and decided to check out with the two mags for my wife. When I was rung up, the young lady cashing me out asked if I was military, veteran or law enforcement. I laughed and said all three. I got a discount of 10% and asked why I couldn't have gotten one the week before. She laughed and said it would take a long time to look up my invoice if it were even still in the system. I walked out of the store feeling strange. I sent my son inside and asked to take my ProMag with me. I didn't feel right leaving it with them, no offense to the establishment, it just didn't feel right to me. They kindly let my son have the magazine back and I put it on eBay for a fraction of the cost. It was sold within an hour (I should have asked for more!). I emailed them later that day asking if they would retroactively refund me the military discount. I offered my invoice number, and proof of ID, whether it be DD-214 or my Disabled Veteran's ID. I received an email from them hours later thanking me for my service, and told that they could not give me the discount. That the discount was 10% for equipment and only 5% for firearms. Still, had I received the discount, I would have gotten about $100 back. So all of this to say, thank you for selling me my beautiful M&P9, and other firearms. I would also like to thank you for providing us with the ability to execute our 2nd Amendment rights, and lastly I don't think I will be coming back here again. The feeling of euphoria I felt the first time was negated by the bad taste I felt the second time. It may not be of your own doing, you could just be following store policy, but exceptions could be made once in a while, circumstances considered. read more

The selection of firearms and related equipment at SSG tactical is the best I've seen in the National Capital Region. Their prices are fair, and their Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. SSG gets my best review in each of the area I listed. read more

First, I read other reviews (Fredericksburg location). The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I explained from the start we're 'newbies' and the individual was helpful in answering questions, etc. Even took apart one of the guns we were looking at and demonstrated cleaning, etc. I do feel like the price of the gun was marked up from what I've seen (hence 4 stars instead of 5) - that being said, given the current climate and availability, I somewhat understand it. They earned the sale by the time they were willing to spend, information that was provided, etc. My wife and I visited other shops first, and many of them were off-putting and overly vague when asking questions related to availability and price (literally was told at one of them that they didn't know what model was coming in tomorrow, but there would be 4, so just be there around 1 in the afternoon if I want my best chance at getting one). read more

There customer service is HORRIBLE! I wish I could give -65 stars! Went in the store looking for a weapon light and to look around since I would be moving to the area and they would have been my lgs. I overheard an employee (older guy salt & pepper hair) being unnecessarily rude to a customer. I left immediately afterwards, I've been to the store on 610 they're usually OK there, but the individual at the location by plank road has ensured I will not be coming back to any of their locations. Ill make the drive up to woodbridge to all shooters tactical. Walter is a lot more customer service oriented. read more

I was there last Sunday, and got my Ruger Security-9. The sale person was taking his time with me, and help me find what I need and fit my budget. I have to say that I am inclined to agree with the others who provided negative feedback on the customer service at the Stafford location. Despite the current social dynamic, the employees at the Fredericksburg location are a bit more helpful. I have been taught to recognize blatant racism at its core and this store does a poor job at hiding it. Which is good in some aspects. If you are black or of any other ethnic background I would suggest taking the trip to the Fredericksburg location. The only personable employee at this location is a man by the name of Erik. So you're sitting on the couch watching Waking Dead re-runs on demand. You think ..."gee, this could really happen....I mean, look at some of the freaks staggering around the Wal-Mart in Fredricksburg. They're already half there". Forget that your wife is a screaming liberal and would never support the purchase of a firearm ..."but honey....it's for zombies.....they might come and eat your face". Just buy one and hide it where you stash your copies of Hustler. She'll never know. SSG has helpful folks behind the counter to answer questions and let you finger f. the cool hardware on the racks. Don't ask them about the possibility of future gun/magazine bans .....every townhouse redneck that has never exercised their second amendment rights but fears a ban walks in and brings up the conversation. So....go ahead, sell that motorcycle you never ride. Take the cash and run down to SSG, buy an AR-15 with 30 round magazines while you still can. Pick up a t-shirt while you're there that says "Nancy Pelosi can blow my hot barrel". Bottom line: Learn how to shoot before you buy...you could put your eye out with one of those things. I explained that I was an inexperienced shooter, but I wanted something for concealed carry. We looked at several options and he explained the pros and cons of each. I have returned several times to make additional purchases. Each time, the sales staff was very attentive and helpful. Not the worst gun store I've been to, but certainly not the best. The employees all have the cocky attitudes typical of their profession, but don't actually seem to know much as I have received conflicting information from different employees on multiple occasions. HORRID experience. I highly recommend you stay away especially if you want your firearms shipped safely. My husband and I took his guns to SSG Tactical in Stafford to be shipped as he's on military orders out of state. They failed to package the guns correctly, and all of the guns were destroyed. There was a giant hole in the box, which had later been retaped by USPS -- it's miraculous my husband's handgun was still in the box after all of that. When calling SSG Tactical to ask how they'll make it right, they deflected their lack of customer service and respect and blamed it on the post office for their handling of the box -- mind you, the firearms didn't have any bubble wrap on them and the "manager" claimed he had boxed the firearms in a larger box, with a handgun case boxed in a separate box, taped to the larger box. This was a total lie as the guns came in 1 box -- with the handgun case in the large box, and the postal sticker was on that 1 box. ALSO, the tracking information consisted of ONE tracking number. You simply cannot have 2 boxes with the same tracking number, so -- to my point earlier -- the manager is telling a lie somewhere in this as the story does not line up. We also offered to provide them with bubble wrap to which they denied. Let me not forget that there wasn't a signature required to obtain the guns for delivery. Talk about high potential for the guns to get in the wrong hands. On top of all of this, my husband's guns are inherited from his father and two grandfathers, one of which is not here with us today. What a disgrace of a business. This is unforgivable and the least they can do is refund us the $260 they charged to ship the guns, especially considering the damage THEY caused will far surpass that $260. read more

Don't listen to the people on here talking about bad customer service. The staff is not only extremely friendly and helpful, but their knowledge is unparalleled. Supply and demand....understaffed with an increasing workload. I would rather wait around for an employee who is actually working doing their job like the people here do rather wait for an employee who is just bull****** around like most other places. Do not waste your money here! Wish there was a zero star! Looks like other reviews have complained about customer service. They were right! We walked around for several minutes without even one "how may I help you". The manager aimlessly roaming around, for what? He's not making sure they are making money because customers are not being helped. They act like you're not even there. Ridiculous. Very low supply of ammo, and hardly no selection. When we finally looked someone in the face and requested help, they were rude and unknowledgeble about the products. This place is really going down. The gun selection was not great and prices were high. At checkout, the cashier was also rude to everyone including the guy in front of us. She would get loud for no reason. We were glad to be out of there. We have bought several guns from SSG over the past years. No more! My husband and I will not go here again. We will shop elsewhere instead. Good riddance. This store has plenty of selection and the prices are on par with other stores and manufacturers. I went on a Saturday, clearly their busiest day and while they weren't overly friendly they weren't rude either. Employees were engaged in conversations with customers and I was even asked if I was being helped. Employees seemed very knowledgeable on every gun in the store and they seemed to have just about everything you need. I even saw them showing off a Barrett .50 cal. I myself almost didn't go from the reviews of unfriendly staff, however go and make your own opinions. Bought a SilencerCo Maxim 9 from them February 2019. They were polite while I was in the store. But required much following up with them to get the paperwork filed with the ATFe. Work has required that I move out of state before the paperwork finished. I called and emailed them in June 2019 to inform them of this and give them the new name of a local NFA dealer. In September, the ATFe said that the form 4 was cancelled, but that no form 3 was filed to transfer the item from them to my local dealer. I still haven't been refunded the $200 NFA fee. To the store's credit, the people are great, but I'm being told that the bottleneck is the owner and that all must wait on him. I've since purchased 3 other NFA items WHICH HAVE GONE THROUGH from form 3 to form 4 (in 2 days - e-form). There is NO reason that this process should be taking this long. I've emailed the owner, I've called the store, I've left messages. I am really wondering if the only way to get traction on this is to sue. Should the owner magically decide to work with me on this, I would be willing to amend this review. read more

Love these folks! Every weapon I have purchased in the last 6-7 years (10+) has been from SSG, with the exception of 2 that I ordered online that I had FFL transferred to *drumroll*... SSG! I'm in their Stafford or Fredericksburg location at least once a week to top off my ammo stock, see new inventory, or just to talk guns. The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful, and you can tell they love what they do. Here's a tip for folks who feel the customer service isn't what they expected: No offense meant, but this is not Best Buy or Target... it's a gun store. When you walk in the staff has no idea if you want to browse in peace, are an experienced gun owner who knows EXACTLY what you came in for, or have NO idea where to even start... so they give you your space. Additionally, the nature of the product is such that there's a lot of admin activity going on... background checks getting entered, paperwork being filled out that must be completed PERFECTLY, and people handling firearms that requires the full attention of the staff. If you go on a busy day (weekends) just expect to have to wait... that's just how it is at gun stores and trust me, they want to help you! I have an FFL coming to them in the next week or two and I'm looking forward to that phone call that it's ready for pickup... gives me another reason to stop by and hang with a great group of folks at SSG!! read more

Purchased a holster from them which broke after two uses of ordinary wear. It was an In the pants holster and the screws from the retention clip fell out. So I took it back to SSG to request they replace the screws or replace the holster. They would not do either, nor would they give my money back. They do not stand behind their products and they are not law enforcement friendly. Don't buy from them unless you're willing to throw away your money. read more

Doug at Stafford was great however I found out the hard way that pricing is very high. Take my advise and research online before you buy as the gun I purchased foe $600 was $140 cheaper online. Also don't trade in your guns. They will only give you peanuts for then even if they are brand new. Better pricing selling to companies online such as guns.com etc. read more
