My jacket smelled like barbecue smoke when I got home, so I guess it's true that they smoke their meats at Big Dog's Smokehouse. Rest assured. I ordered the Conners BBQ Nachos, which are cuckoo. If you get them with everything on them, there will be so much stuff on top of the tortilla chips that you'll think you ordered a garbage plate. You get nacho cheese, your choice of meat (pork, chicken or brisket), sour cream, jalapeños, black olives, onions, bacon bits ... and also mac & cheese and baked beans. On top of the nachos! I was aghast. Luckily, you can get the mac & cheese and baked beans on the side, or not at all. The Conners BBQ Nachos are completely customizable, but I recommend getting the mac & cheese and baked beans on the side, because then it's like you got two mini sides for free. We also got the pulled pork sandwich with fries (yum) and the Flight of Sliders: four mini sliders with brisket, pork, sausage and chicken. There's nary a lettuce leaf or tomato slice in sight -- these are just meat-and-bun sandwiches. All of the food comes undressed, by the way. You add your own barbecue sauce from the bottles at your table. They have an original sauce, a sweet sauce and a spicy sauce. The spicy barbecue sauce is not at all spicy, it just has a little kick. They have a kids menu, with mini sliders, mac & cheese, and chicken tenders. Each come with a side, but the mac & cheese comes with two sides. My kid got the mini sliders, but ordered just one with a side of mac & cheese. He finished it all and probably could have eaten another slider, so if you have an older kid, or a kid with a big appetite, get two sliders. Big Dog's goes big in the ambiance department. There's a plethora of vintage ephemera all over the restaurant. It's a fun restaurant. Even the seating is wacky: You can sit at a table that looks like an old motorcycle, or a table that looks like you're sitting inside of a Ford truck. There's a pinball machine that you can play for a quarter, and an old juke box, and one of those singing fish in the men's bathroom. (This is what I was told.) There are all kinds of license plates and traffic signs and photos and knickknacks everywhere, especially Coca-Cola memorabilia. Big Dog's is a fun place to visit! Great place for BBQ food! Walk up and order at a counter, with their big menu in the background. Food is called out and brought to where you are sitting. Food was really delicious and lots of different sauce options to add to your meal. The inside is very wild and eclectic! Great place to play eye spy while waiting for your food! We ordered the sampler takeout so ambulance is irrelevant ( side note outside seating is rustic, basically a chained off place on the sidewalk. BORING, BENIGN. ) They shorted us sauce that we ordered and the cashier had a VERY difficult time making change because we brought cash, shame on us. . Did I say they shorted us sauce? TOO BAD their brisket is less than average. Tender only because of how thin they slice it. The pulled pork was dry and lacking in flavor, the ribs were so overcooked that we needed to used a serrated knife to hack through them (hack IS an officially adopted culinarily term). On a great note the bone in 1/4 chicken (leg and thigh- we can discuss that later) was awesome. Cornbread most likely came from GFS - yellow sponge cake flavored like corn. NO not again. My wife and MIL got the nachos and I got the sliders. The nachos were absolutely fantastic according to both who had them. The sliders gave me an opportunity to try all of the smoked options. The brisket was okay, the chicken was quite dry and the pulled pork was decent. But the smoked sausage was FANTASTIC. Incredibly good. We did pick up and it was done on time and packaged well. The atmosphere in Big Dogs is nice, a mix of vintage Americana mixed with eclectic features. The food left a lot to be desired. When we entered the restaurant it smelled so unbelievably good and I really thought this was going to be our new favorite spot. Being originally from Tennessee, we might have too high of standards for BBQ but I digress. My partner and I both ordered pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, fries. Standard fare, hard to mess up. All the smoke smell we enjoyed upon entering did not translate into the pulled pork at all. I didn't detect any smoked flavor, it tasted like my slow cooker pulled pork I make from time to time. No smoked flavor, struggle pulled pork. It didn't taste overly fresh, either. The buns were nice, though. The potato salad was standard. The fries were okay, not house made for sure. I don't think the potato salad really tasted house made either. Really, none of it tasted housemade. The bbq sauce selection was okay, none of it really blew me away. Two small sandwiches, one with one side and the other with two, a kids meal, and a beer was $50. Wild price to quality ratio going on there. Delicious BBQ for Indiana! Highly recommend getting the Southern Comfort as the coleslaw with added ranch gives the BBQ a nice finish. Meat was dry, but thankfully they have fantastic sauces to put on it- the Carolina mustard was my favorite. Quick, friendly service in a great setting filled with antiques and fun objects. I stopped in on a weekday with coworkers and loved the interior! So many cool decorations and sitting arrangements to choose from! Note: You order your food before finding your seat and drinks are a separate cost. I ordered the pulled chicken platter with potato salad and green beans. The chicken did not taste like barbecue, more like boiled maybe?, but the sauces they have on the table made up for the lack of flavor on the chicken itself. The potato salad was DELICIOUS, I would absolutely order a larger portion of this for a family picnic or get together, and the green beans were pretty flavorful as well. What a unique BBQ spot! I had a great experience here from good staff and great food! The Flight of Sliders was a fun option that gave taste to many of their meats. The BBQ sauce selection is diverse too and available at your table. I must admit, their hot sauce lingered for awhile in my pallet and had me drinking a couple cups of water. We tried this great looking spot a couple of weeks ago. Decor inside and out is spot on! Cool comfortable hometown spot. Menu was a bit confusing. We tried the chicken nachos, brisket and ribs. Chicken nachos were pretty dry but I suspect when you smoke white meat chicken, it's hard to avoid. Nachos would have greatly benefited from actual bacon bits, these were cold and the jalapeños were canned. Fresh jalapeño would have really helped. Brisket was good, Needed some seasoning and if the bun had been buttered or toasted, it would have made all the difference. Cole slaw was delicious. Ribs were good but also needed a little more seasoning. Their house sauces were very good and each of the meats needed them. My last criticism is a personal preference. Fine dining or roadside, I prefer not to hear all the chatter in the kitchen. It's distracts from your meal. I wouldn't say don't try this place but I truly believe they can do better. read more

My wife and I were looking for a bbq place in nw Indy .... I happen to see this on map and we decided to check it out. This is definitely " hole in the wall" place in Cicero . We were greeted by nice gal in front. We ordered the brisket meal - with two sides . We decided on cole slaw and cornbread . We were not disappointed with the selection of side - this tasted like homemade style . The main part of the meal - brisket - was out of this world ! One of the BEST brisket we've had in a long time . There was no fat and most of if was meat. Order at the counter and step into the main dining area, which is decorated with a mish mash of chairs, tables and wall decor that add to the small-town charm. I was in town for my uncle's funeral and this is where we all gathered afterwards. The couple who owns this was so very accommodating and hospitable--really kind. The staff efficiently brought out prepared plates for everyone; there were about 30 of us. The BBQ sandwiches and potato salad were delicious. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and potato salad. My husband ordered 1/2 pulled chicken and 1/2 pulled pork with Mac and cheese and green beans. The beans were SO yummy! We placed a catering order for Saturday and the food was perfect! The meat-- chicken, pulled pork and brisket was excellent-- the chicken was moist (I was worried it may be dry but it wasn't) and the brisket was sliced perfectly. Not too thick-- just the right size for a sandwich or even to each alone. The sides--green beans, Mac and cheese and Cole slaw were great-- we had very little left. Was in Cicero for a short visit and looking for a late lunch stop. Being an odd time (2:30 on a Tues) I wasn't expecting much, but the flavor was there and even though I know it wasn't freshly cooked I could tell it was well cared for when it was. Baked beans were tasty, a little heavy on the cinnamon but good. Fries are cooked in an air fryer and were crispy. The wife had the sampler lunch and having tasted a few I will say the sausage and brisket was very tasty. Original sauce was good. I liked the Carolina and Ghost sauce the most. Recently moved here from the south and I would have to say this is some pretty good barbecue for up here. read more
