Fried Fish and Shrimp all you can eat special
Geoff P.

Went on a Thursday night while traveling for work. They had live music and the decor reminds me of places I've hung out as a kid, like when you build a fort or get to "finish the basement" as a kid for a space to hangout with your friends. It was pretty awesome! The service is fantastic! Attentive and super friendly. They treated us as if we were regulars even though the group is was with was from Boston and in town for the first time ever. I had ordered the fish and shrimp special, my coach workers had the 2 meat combo and the half rack of ribs. The portions were enormous and the price is perfect. Even the drinks were large. Loved every minute of being there and will definitely be back for more.

Food was fantastic. I loved the fresh battered onion rings and fried pickpes. The brisket was amazing. You get a lot of food for a great price!!! I will definetly be going back.

This place is a shack in all of the good ways. If you like a little experience with your food then give this place a try. Small dining area so if it's crowded there might be wait. Service was fast and friendly. Food was served reasonably quickly. We tried the BBQ. Food was pretty solid middle of the road. Most people would love it. Good sized portions. And free dessert.

Oh my goodness! I am still eating but it is sooo AMAZING that I had to immediately come and make the review so that I didn't forget to! The brisket is so juicy and perfectly cooked! The sausage is absolutely perfect and I would just like to mention that I can NEVER find sausage that I like. My waitress was also so friendly and the ambiance with the customers in the restaurant was so welcoming! A friendly conversation was immediately made and I will definitely be returning SOON! LOVE THIS PLACE I can't wait to try more of their food !! Oh I forgot , they also gave me two free cookies that are absolutely amazing as well !

This is great. Big John's is a hole-in-the-wall family-style barbecue joint. It is completely without fancy and without shiny. You don't need all of those distractions when you have excellent barbecue. I had the two meat plate which included two ribs and brisket. For my three sides, I stuck with my keto diet and had slaw, slaw and slaw. The food arrived a few minutes later on a styrofoam plate with plastic cutlery. A nice portion and included a pickle spear and a slice of white onion. It. Was. Perfect. Delicious, tender, meaty and moist. All the words you want to hear when you're having proper Texas barbecue. I had a chance to meet the owner, Brenda. She's a sweetie. And no, they do not have beer on the menu. You'll survive. [Review 17421 overall - 434 in Texas - 939 of 2022.]

Sliced brisket sandwich gone topless. Plenty of sauce to keep it moist. A nicely sloppy sandwich.

Food was excellent. Brenda stopped by and chatted with us. For a Monday evening the place was packed. A good sign.

Good food. Good service. It's a little dark inside but has an old country atmosphere.

But we will be back since the ambiance is a cut above the competition and the food was good too. From the start, the service set the tone. My server had that perfect balance--attentive, helpful, and genuinely engaged without hovering. It made the evening feel relaxed and easy. I started with the Parmesan fries because, honestly, who skips Parmesan fries when they're on the menu? They were crisp, flavorful, and just indulgent enough to feel like the right decision. For the entrée, I ordered the pan-seared salmon, and it did not disappoint. It was cooked to perfection, and the seasoning complemented the fish beautifully. The risotto was creamy and well-prepared, and the green beans had that fresh, crisp texture that tied everything together. The atmosphere added to the experience. Being set inside a beautifully restored historic property gave the place character. It felt like a spot where locals gathered--there was a familiarity in the room that made it feel like the place to see and be seen. And while it didn't hurt to walk in alongside the head of the local hospital (pure coincidence, and no, I wasn't a patient), the restaurant stood on its own merit. If you're driving through Big Spring or staying the night, Settles Grill was well worth the stop. It's a place where you don't "settle" at all--you simply have a very good meal in a setting that feels both welcoming and established.
