I keep returning, hoping to actually get through the checkout line but 90% of the time I end up leaving. I was in there on 12-2-2020 at around 2:00 and there was only 1 cashier open and about 25 people in line. I counted at least 25. That's ridiculous. People were stocking shelves everywhere but only ONE CASHIER? The store itself has great buys but if time is important to you, don't shop here. Ross a few doors down has similar items and keep their cashiers running so you can actually pay for your items.

The store is dirtly. cluttered. and way too many employees, a lot in yellow vests(mgmt) just standing around. i literally had 6 employees standing around the self checkout, while the customers waited in line. all of these employees standiing around, are costing the customers $$. employees wages /benefits do not come from management or corporate, it comes from charging the customers more. yesterday, i went in and there were NO bags. the entire store was out. seriously?! how does that happen? it happens because the personnel there are lazy and incompetent. Covid was an excuse to be out of items, but the supply chain is strong. the only excuse for not having something, especially bags, is because of incompetency. someone didnt inventory and reorder. this type of situation happens all the time at this store. everytime i go in with a list, at least one of the items im looking for isnt stocked on the shelf. i have sent mutltiple complaints to Corporate, and yet same problems. it wont take long before this is just another ghetto walmart that no one wants to go to. so sad for our once nice quaint little town.

I ask him if he was in the check out line and he told me that he was waiting on the cashier straight ahead of him and that I could go to the other cashier. After speaking to him I went to the other cashier (a white female) to check out. She begin fussing me out stating I was jumping line ahead of some other customers walking up. The other customers never spoke to the Hispanic male who was at the check out line when I arrived there. I am 75 years old and did not appreciate her talking down to me like an animal or a child. After she mouthed off to me I told her that I was in line ahead of the other people and tossed the clothing to her telling her where she could put them and left the store. If the store has video cameras they can review the incident and see that I asked the only person (Hispanic male) who was at the cashier's counter if he was in line before proceeding to the check out. The other customers must have been family or friends to be given priority. Regardless, the Belk employee had no reason to talk down to me like she did. I have been going to Belks to shop since I was a teenager (over 60 years when they had a store in downtown Aberdeen) to purchase clothing, jewelry and other items but will not step foot in another one again. Any video would back up what I have stated. **Store can not survive without people shopping there! Maybe this type of incident is part of the reason Belks is having financial issues.

This is the coolest spot. They sometimes have a tag sale too. I got a lovely chair with caned back and arms that I re-upholstered with a fun fabric for $5! The chair needed to be re-glued but was otherwise in great conditions. It's a nice accent chair for my bedroom now. I love the sheer size and selection of this store. Plenty of browsing to do and deals to be found here. If you are into upcycling furniture, lamps, and small items this is a great treasure trove.
