Every sunday me and my boyfriend go get soul food after church. we wanted to try a new spot today so we came here and will never be back .. we waited an hour for our food ( we were never told there was a long wait ) the customer service was so disappointing. We thought the food would be great after we had to wait so long and it was some of the most disgusting soul food i've ever eaten. i got fried chicken, greens and mac n cheese. my mac and cheese was mushy with no flavor, my fried chicken was not crispy , it was soggy and mushy with no flavor and my greens were so unseasoned and had no flavor. for a soul food spot in the west end , you'd think it'd be great but i would never recommend this food. read more

We waited for almost a hour for baked chicken with stuffing two sides and cornbread. This is crazy work!! When we first arrived we asked how was the service and if this was the same restaurant from the west end. He explain that this was a new company. They bought the business from big mama and her family. Well I guess they should have bought the customer service as well! Waiting a hour for pre made food is sick! I have been here many times and the last two times I was disappointed. Consistency is key in any good business. Compromising and cutting corners is a no no. I had ordered a Baked Chicken dinner and the chicken was more par boiled than baked tasting. The corn bread was undone. I was also missing a side order. I called in to let them know about the incident. I returned feeling hopeful that the food was back up to par. I was again disappointed when I got home and the mac and cheese taste like flour with no cheese in sight. The baked chicken again taste par boiled without touching an oven. The mixed vegetables tasted frozen. I was also disappointed to pay for a side order when they were to replace the side item they didn't give to me the first time. I cringe while writing this review, because this has been a great place to enjoy a down south home-cooked meal. I pray all gets back to normal. Until then I'll cook at home. read more

I asked, "soul food?" and many repeatedly recommended, "Big Momma's", a long time Westend favorite. If my arms are just a bit longer, I can literally touch the entrance door and the order counter at the same time. The place is tiny, the menus are posted at the top. Each day has a separate menu, with fried chicken offered almost everyday. Main entrees vary slightly each day between salmon croquet, ribs, baked chicken, smothered porkchops, fried fish, etc. Lots of traditional side dishes to choose from as you get 2 with each entree. My fried chicken was fresh and delicious, I got at least 4 large pieces of wings and thighs. Mashed potatoes was salty but I enjoyed my cabbage cooked with pork. I ordered sweet ice tea and unexpectedly got a small jug of the best ice tea I've had in a while. My lunchmates did not enjoy their baked chicken as it wasn't flavored well but they are willing to come back for a second try. I would normally give this a 3.5 for food but I like its charm, location and comfort . Definitely give it a try if you're in the area! read more

I am in Louisville a few times per year and have been wanting to find soul food restaurants. This was going to be my second choice today but my first choice wasn't open for another 30 minutes. I got the fried chicken breast and wing, cabbage, mashed potatoes, corn bread and a piece of carmel cake. There was no waiting as I was the only customer. The chicken was seasoned nicely and was good although the breast was a little dry and my sides were excellent. The cake was the only dessert they had and it could have been moister but I don't think it was left from a previous day. I got my food to-go but there were approximately 5 seats total with none occupied at the time. I would love to go there on another day where they have more sides as an option. read more

When they was at their old location ppl including me would stand in line for a half hour or more to buy food everyone was polite service was very nice but now since they relocated to a new location the food is not as good, it's more expensive you wait for a half hour or more for the food to be ready for you to eat or take out. I went to Big Momma's Soul Kitchen on 11/10/2021, it was 5:55. I looked online before I went and it stated they closed at 7:00. As I was approaching the door another lady went inside. Once I got to the front door and note no one was behind me, a young lady came to the door, looked at me, locked the door, then pushed on door to make sure it was locked and walked off! I'm a mild mannered person and I saw red. It wasn't 6:00 yet, a simple, ma'am I'm sorry but we are closing would've been fine, something anything. I've seen this young lady before working and she always seems like she's having a bad day. I thought this was so unprofessional and rude, I will never support this establishment again. I've worked in my field for 25years and customer service is nothing like it use to be. I suggest this young lady get some customer service training and I'm sure you'll get better results. read more

This restaurant was one of my favorite until the day came when the daughter of Big Momma was extremely rude and never apologized. I gave them a chance to apologize. So, I spend my money where I can be appreciated. They put too many signs up telling you not to be on phone in line, but some days they have you waiting for long times. Some of the food is too salty, so if you have high blood pressure you shouldn't be eating it anyway. When I shared what happened to me how the daughter embarrassed me while 2nd in line and told me to move my car so she could park her car in front, others said to me going out the door, She didn't have to do you like that! OMG! This is an absolute diamond in the rough. We yelped for a soul food restaurant and stopped by to give it a try! And then we went back for a 2nd visit the next day. It has the most delicious food ever. We tried the fried chicken, fried catfish, meatloaf, smothered pork chops, croquettes, mac n' cheese, cabbage, sweet potatoes. So wonderful! Great soul food. Friendly staff. Smothered pork chops and rib tips were great, but then the carbs and starches stated to shine when mixed with the abundant sauce and gravy portions. Cornbread in particular was perfect consistency for sopping up the succulent juices. Cashier gave us complimentary mashed potatoes for the baby.
