Have heard about this gem for 20 years but never tried it until last night. Wife and I sat at the…read morebar - love the atmosphere: spacious dive bar with low ceilings and wood paneling. There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

Well I'd classify this place as a dive bar in the sense of the word. It's definitely not 4 star…read morenoted and maybe not the best exclusive signage and overall 4 star appeal; but it a diamond in the rough, persa. This place is quaint, nice location (on a corner ) decent seating, not a big outdoor dining area, the bar is long and has the memories of the old day saloon. Now the food; terribly good! Menu isn't extensive but good items and variety that will satisfy anyone's appetite. It was Father's Day but as soon as it opened they were quickly filled with patrons and people kept coming; even waiting to get in. The fries in duck fat were awesome. Since so many baskets of fries like this for a long time. The smoked wings are great, meaty and savory. I had the pork belly tacos; my only disappointment was you only get 2 per order. The fine combination of ingredients were splendid and the pork belly so tender. My wife had the bbq pork sandwich on pretzel bun. Very good tasting and this was with no bbq sauce on it. If you're in the area, do yourself a a favor and stop in. I can't wait to go back ( as we live in southern Indiana) so might be a bit but definitely want to try a few other items.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with such warmth and hospitality. The hostess was incredibly sweet, even taking a picture of our family for us. We were seated promptly, and the service remained excellent throughout our visit. I ordered the Soulful Egg Rolls, a Peach Lemon Drop (I believe that was the name), the pork chop meal, and a slice of bourbon pecan pie to go since I had a flight to catch later that day. Let me just say--the Soulful Egg Rolls were AMAZING! I wish I had ordered more to take home. I let my cousin try one, and she immediately placed an order for her own. Everyone in our group loved their meals. My cousins ordered the catfish, which was seasoned to perfection, and the mac and cheese was hands down some of the best I've ever tasted. I was honestly wishing I had ordered some for myself! Another cousin ordered the chicken and waffles and couldn't stop talking about how good they were. When I finally got home, my pork chop meal was just as delicious as I remembered, and that bourbon pecan pie was one of the best pecan pies I've ever had. Honestly, I would fly back to Louisville just to eat here again. The food, service, and atmosphere were all a 10 out of 10. If you're visiting Louisville and looking for incredible soul food, do yourself a favor and check this place out. You won't be disappointed!

Two stars. My…read moreprevious review was posted nearly two years ago, so I'm not sure why it's showing as if it were written more recently. Unfortunately, this establishment appears to be on the decline. The exceptional food and standout service we experienced during earlier visits have noticeably diminished over my last three visits. While menu prices have steadily increased by roughly $3 to $9 per item over the past year, the quality of the food, portion sizes, and overall service have all declined. During our most recent visit, many of the items we came for were unavailable. After waiting for about 30 minutes, we ultimately decided to leave. At these price points, it's unreasonable to expect guests to settle for limited options. And if there are significant menu limitations, they should be communicated upfront! Service was also a concern. There were only two servers for the entire restaurant, and while our server, Kay, is typically excellent, she seemed overwhelmed and off her game. After a long wait, we placed an appetizer order, only to wait even longer before she returned and asked if we wanted appetizers. Are you kidding me right now? I think that was the moment I was over this place. She proceeded to tell us the collard green dip wasn't available along with three or four other items we were considering. We had been left waiting for an item that was never coming. Absolutely bogus. Adding to the frustration, a manager stopped by to ask if we had placed our orders. When we said no, he did not offer to take them and simply moved on. I understand that rising food costs and staffing challenges are real issues, but they do not excuse a decline in quality and service. My place setting was not clean. There was a nearby table that ordered Sprite but was served Sierra Mist. And my friend's $50 short ribs resembled a cut of roast. Fried mushrooms are now $19! And fried chicken is $24 for four pieces...that's 6/piece! Including the drumstick! Unacceptable. The prices showing on Yelp are not accurate. They need to be updated. And I am never excited when an establishment chooses to add an automatic gratuity to my bill. That's a red flag, too. On a positive note, the music was enjoyable and parking was convenient. Still, the overall experience was disappointing. I enjoy supporting Black-owned businesses. So these experiences are especially disheartening. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements. If not, the end is near. Do better, Dasha Barbour's.

Everything was absolutely delicious, but the burnt ends appetizer was the standout--our waitress recommended it, and she was spot on. They were incredible! What made the experience even better was the outstanding service. Our waitress was so kind, patient, and calm with our young boys, which made our meal relaxing and enjoyable. The entire staff was welcoming and attentive, creating a warm, family-friendly atmosphere from the moment we walked in. The restaurant has a fun, inviting vibe that perfectly complements the amazing food. Between the exceptional service, great atmosphere, and unforgettable meal, The Eagle has earned a permanent spot on our list of must-stop places whenever we're passing through Louisville. We had high hopes based on Eagle Louisville's stellar Yelp score. But we walked away disappointed…read morebecause of a major service lapse, curious food seasonings and discrepancies between menu descriptions and actual dishes. We arrived mid-afternoon on a Friday. We had a choice between sitting inside or being seated at a picnic table on the covered deck. We were assigned a high-top table in the dining area past the bar, where a few guys were watching a soccer match. The brine-soaked fried chicken is Eagle's specialty, so we ordered it. I thought the chicken was good,. So per the menu for the three-piece fried chicken meal, you can only order either all white meat or all dark meat. Interestingly, the two people at our table that ordered white meat still got a drumstick with their meat. The last I checked, drumsticks were considered dark meat. For an appetizer, we ordered the hush puppies. They had a nice crunchy texture but were very spicy hot. We also ordered the spoonbread. This was my favorite dish of the day. It was served warm, had a great texture and a light maple flavor. With our meals, we could get two sides. We requested the collard greens, green beans, fries, grits and mac & cheese. Only the mac & cheese was good. The collard greens were way salty and the green beans had odd and unexpected seasonings. Our dining companion was put out, and understandably so, that the menu said the grits came with white cheddar cheese. But instead, though the grits maybe had cheese, they were also loaded with loads of diced jalapeno. They were so over the top spicy, none of us could eat the grits. The fries were strongly seasoned with oregano. WTF? Our entrees came with biscuits. The biscuits were tasty, but unfortunately, because they contained too much shortening, fell apart when buttering them. And that leads up to the service lapse. After we received our check, our server completely disappeared. We waited a half hour for her to re-appear, gave up and asked another server to cash us out. He disappeared and we waited some more. Finally the red-headed server re-appeared and breezily explained she had been out on the deck the whole time. No apology or anything.

Intimate room, excellent menu, top notch service!…read more The room is dark, surprisingly intimate for as open as it is. Low ceilings and servers clad in black add to the effect of a candle-lit cask of a restaurant. The smells wafting from the kitchen immediately get your appetite revving if it wasn't already in gear. Out host, Mary, sat our party quickly and the server came right away to fill waters and take drink orders. The menu is short but superb. Everything has a Mediterranean flair that should make you expect savory mess and spice. Prices are in the $40-60 range for entrees but worth it! Parking is free in the lot and a QR code on the menu gives you access to enter your info including plate number. It's a nice feature for an area where spots are limited.

I was hosting a business dinner in Louisville last week and wanted to try someplace new. I scanned…read morethe list of James Beard 2025 semifinalists and focused on two spots: MeeshMeesh and The Fat Lamb. MeeshMeesh is wildly popular and books out 60 days in advance, so that wasn't happening--but I was able to secure a timely reservation at The Fat Lamb. That turned out to be a great decision. It was a pleasure meeting Dallas McGarity, the executive chef and owner. He shared that the restaurant has been open for about ten years and that he's preparing to open a new Italian concept. When the topic of his James Beard nomination came up, he mentioned it was a complete surprise--the restaurant didn't self-nominate--which made the recognition feel even more meaningful. One thing I neglected to ask him directly was why lamb plays such a central role on the menu. Our server wasn't entirely sure either, but she did explain how the restaurant got its name. Apparently, Dallas was traveling through the countryside, spotted a particularly memorable "fat lamb" on a farm, and the name stuck. Sometimes it really is that simple. With four of us dining, we may have gone a bit overboard on starters--but no regrets. We shared the roasted Brussels sprouts, lamb kofta meatballs, fontina and truffle arancini, and the whipped feta and pita. Every dish was well-executed and easy to share, which made them ideal for a business dinner. For entrées, my wife and I split the signature tandoori and ancho spice-roasted lamb chops. They were flavorful without being heavy, and the black barbecue sauce added a nice depth. Our server highly recommended the Moroccan-spiced halibut, which our other guests shared and thoroughly enjoyed--especially the mushroom demi-glace. Dessert was the Nutella mousse, another house signature. The Italian cherries and chocolate shavings were a great finishing touch without pushing things into overly sweet territory. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the service and pacing. The evening flowed naturally--never rushed, never dragging--which is exactly what you want when entertaining clients or colleagues. The Fat Lamb delivered a memorable, well-rounded dining experience and easily earned its reputation. I'd happily return, whether for business or just a great night out.
