I really wanted to enjoy my visit to Lucretia's Kitchen because the restaurant itself is absolutely adorable. It has a cozy, charming atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with friends. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. It took a long time for us to be greeted, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. It was just my friend and me along with a larger group of about 10 people. One thing that made it confusing was that the employees didn't seem to have consistent uniforms, so it was difficult to tell who actually worked there. Our server was friendly, but he kept forgetting items we requested and took a long time to return to our table. I used to be a server myself, so I understand that things happen and I try to give people grace. However, the pace of service felt excessive considering how few tables were occupied. The food was okay overall, but I actually thought my meal tasted better after reheating the leftovers at home. My friend also noticed that part of her chicken looked undercooked, which was concerning. We didn't feel confident about that portion of the meal. The biggest downside for me was the pricing. For the portion sizes, food quality, and overall experience, it felt overpriced. On a recent Thursday my husband suggested we head to Lucretia's as he saw they were doing a buffet for lunch. I'm in! It's a cool little place, today decorated with a balloon arch, probably left from a special event. We were greeted by a young lady who escorted us to the bar to pay. 14.99 ea is a bargain! I'll try to remember everything they had. Spinach salad, cornbread, potato salad, slaw, pickles, mashed potatoes, gravy, baked beans, kielbasa and kraut, cooked cabbage, green beans, Mac n cheese. I'm probably forgetting something? Then the meats. Baked chicken, fried chicken, fried catfish and fried pork chops, beef vegetable soup. Whew!! All delicious!!! Loved every minute. They did have some cookies on the buffet. They didn't look homemade so my only disappointment is that I didn't order banana pudding or peach cobbler to go!! Our order consisted of 45 fried wings, the lemon pepper dry rub was super salty, Carolina gold had a nice flavor, buffalo were tasty but also salty. The wings were heavily breaded. When I arrived, the restaurant had no idea that I had placed an order online, so I had to wait for 10 minutes while they got the food together. After 10 minutes I went back to the restaurant and was told that one of the meals was not ready yet, and I would need to wait for another four minutes. In the meantime, they informed me that they were out of greens and that I would need to select another side item. Once the food was ready, they told me to check the order, which I did. I asked them where the cornbread was for the meals, and they told me that they were out of cornbread and will give me rolls instead. I also ordered grape Kool-Aid, which was on the menu, but when I arrive, they told me they did not have any grape Kool-Aid. The croquette meal that we ordered was not very good. The pork chop meal was OK; the green beans were just OK and the mac & cheese was just OK. I don't know that I will be going back. read more

My husband and I traveled from Michigan to Kentucky specifically to try Lucretia's Kitchen for their advertised Thanksgiving buffet. Unfortunately, our experience did not match what was promoted online. We arrived at the posted opening time of 11:00 AM, but when we went to enter, the owner informed us they were running behind due to "a few hiccups" that morning. Although she acknowledged the advertised opening time, she said she chose not to update the Facebook page because she "didn't want to confuse people." We were told they should be ready by 12:00 PM, and even if not, she would still let us in. We returned at noon and were seated, but ended up waiting another full hour before any food was available on the buffet. The staff was friendly and attentive with drink refills, but the beverages were extremely sweet--so sweet that even watering them down didn't help. By 1:00 PM, only a small portion of the advertised buffet was available: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, salads, cornbread, and turkey. These items tasted good, but it was far from the full Thanksgiving buffet we had been expecting. After an additional wait, greens, dressing, and candied yams were brought out. Unfortunately, the greens and dressing were so salty that we couldn't eat them. The rest of the items advertised--including brisket, ham, ribs, chitterlings, and the variety of turkey options--never appeared at all, despite a server telling us the brisket and ham were "being sliced" and would be out shortly. Given the hype in the ads and our long drive, we were extremely disappointed. No apology or effort to make things right was offered, even after learning we had traveled from out of state. Once we got home, we checked other reviews and saw multiple people describing similar experiences, which confirmed our concerns. The décor was beautiful and the staff genuinely friendly, but the operation itself felt unprepared--especially for a business that isn't new. We originally thought about giving the restaurant another try on a regular day, but after this visit and the consistent reviews, we've decided not to. We hope the restaurant takes the negative feedback they've been receiving into serious consideration, because the potential is there--but execution and consistency need major improvement. read more

There was a very long wait time for them not to be busy. Three of the five sides I ordered were not available. It took two spaced-out reordering attempts due to poor communication between the kitchen and servers. None of the desserts on the menu were available, and the so-called fresh-made lemonade was pink sugar water. The green beans looked fresh out of the can and were poorly seasoned. The cornbread dressing was a crumbly, salty, sagey, uneatable mess. The salmon croquette was just okay, as was the mac and cheese. The meal came with a small hamburger bun. Two people were in the restaurant when I arrived for my pickup order, and another eight showed up before I left 40+ minutes later. I placed the order online, and I arrived 16 minutes after placing it. Pleasant enough customer service who made no excuses for the poor kitchen service and remained polite after repeating to every customer, "We are out of..." Meatloaf was covered in what seemed to be some sweet Thai chili sauce, greens were flavorless except for the salt and pepper I put in there. This was literally a once and done never to return place. It would've been one thing if they were swamped with people but our group arrived there were two other tables seated. Absolutely, hands down, the best fried chicken in Louisville. It's downtown and opens for lunch at noon. They have a parking lot and also there is street parking. It's wasn't locate. The place is spotless -including the ladies' room. They fired up everything in the kitchen as we arrived so everything we ordered was cooked to order. The owner greeted us and shared the family history. Our server, Steffon, was wonderful, describing each menu offering and making helpful suggestions. The chicken pieces are really big. A thigh looks like a breast. Turnip greens the old fashioned way; rich Mac and cheese; homemade mashed potatoes and gravy; OMG the sweet potatoes; seasoned Southern green beans; slightly sweet cornbread; and lots more. Paid for $400 for a private space, nothing was ready when my party arrived that was known by the owner in advance. Was advised that initially when a party member arrived someone else was in the private space. At 2:18 checked on status of food, got a little chilly response that it was on its way. MY PARTY set up chaffing dish holders! At 2:48 asked to speak to the owner who gave definite attitude like I had no right to ask about why food was late. She spoke of never speaking with me, CORRECT because I could never get directly to her through normal business means. She asked if I wanted a discount, I told her no I wanted to know why our pre-arranged event was seemingly not prepared for because my party didn't get to begin eating until after 3!!! She was dismissive and rude, saying I could have called someone in my party who knew her directly, I had used 2 people in my party including the one she spoke about to try and get questions answered already. I've never seen anyone attempt to troll like they did but being loud and wrong while trolling experiences like we were all delusional took the cake. I'll never go back and have supported LK over the years she has been in service, but after her nasty attitude and subsequent trolling from people connected to her, I'm good. What we did see was she was hosting a comedian in town prior to our arrival, that got posted to her LK social media page, he was the person who was in our paid for space and was asked to come downstairs. SHE had reached out to his party the day prior but knew we were coming weeks in advance because the space was paid for that early, and the person she was speaking with in my party kept telling her we were still coming.
