    Fried pork chops dinner
    Jason M.

When we found out we were coming back to Louisville for the AAU tournament we knew this was our first stop. Two years ago it was great. This time, same thing. Huge portions. Seasoned perfectly. Only problem is it took an hour to get our food. Slow service. The servers were great but they seemed a little overwhelmed. Cut down on serving time and this will be 5 stars against any soul food restaurant.

On a recent Thursday my husband suggested we head to Lucretia's as he saw they were doing a buffet for lunch. I'm in! It's a cool little place, today decorated with a balloon arch, probably left from a special event. We were greeted by a young lady who escorted us to the bar to pay. 14.99 ea is a bargain! I'll try to remember everything they had. Spinach salad, cornbread, potato salad, slaw, pickles, mashed potatoes, gravy, baked beans, kielbasa and kraut, cooked cabbage, green beans, Mac n cheese. I'm probably forgetting something? Then the meats. Baked chicken, fried chicken, fried catfish and fried pork chops, beef vegetable soup. Whew!! All delicious!!! Loved every minute. They did have some cookies on the buffet. They didn't look homemade so my only disappointment is that I didn't order banana pudding or peach cobbler to go!! They don't always have the buffet so call ahead or just go and order off the menu!! Yummm!

I really wanted to love this place but.... We placed a to go order at 6p, they said pick up in 30 mins and our food wasn't ready till 7:30p. We waited inside the restaurant for our order for an hour.. no one acknowledged us or our wait and the restaurant closed at 7. Our order consisted of 45 fried wings, the lemon pepper dry rub was super salty, Carolina gold had a nice flavor, buffalo were tasty but also salty. The wings were heavily breaded. The restaurant itself is cute, the wing price (50 cents) is great, but, I wouldn't return due to the service (lack of), if the wait times weren't outrageous I might return to try other menu items.

Spectacular soul food restaurant that is top notch that we can't get enough of. Only place I have tried two weeks in a row. My Catfish and Crispy chicken dinners were delicious and loved every bite. The bananas pudding is out of this world with a unique cookie in it. The only complaint is the greens were too salty. Easy to place phone orders. The service is excellent. The place is large and impressive. There is construction on the side street parking that shuts off parts of Oak St by the restaurant. Next month is my birthday and I will come back for a third time. My wife can't wait because every weekend she keeps asking me when are we going back. It is that good.

If you're visiting Louisville or live in the area and you're craving real soul food, this place is a definite must. The food took me right back to my granny's kitchen. I had the catfish, greens, and mac and cheese, and every bite was incredible. The catfish was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the greens were tender and full of flavor, and the mac was creamy, cheesy, and comforting, just how it should be. My wife had the fried chicken, potato salad, and baked beans, and everything on her plate was delicious. The chicken was crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the potato salad was classic and well balanced. The baked beans had the perfect amount of sweetness. They were hearty, and packed with flavor. And then came the cornbread--oh my. It was soft, slightly sweet, and so good on its own that we didn't even need to add butter. It truly stood on its own. This restaurant doesn't just serve food--it serves comfort, tradition, and heart. If you're in Louisville and want some real-deal soul food, this place should be at the top of your list.

The food was magnificent. Everything that I ordered was well seasoned. Great service our server was very attentive, kind, and polite. Good prices for the quality and quantity of the food I received. I love the atmosphere. There was Jazz playing. I just felt relaxed and comfortable. I didn't feel rushed to hurry up and finish my food. I just had a great time.

I believe the entrees pretty much change daily. They had fried and smothered chicken, pot roast, and made to order catfish and whiting. I chose the catfish, cabbage, mac & cheese, & cornbread dressing (chicken gravy, thank you very much!) Since mine was made to order, they brought it to my table and it was super quick after ordering, too. First things first, for $20, the portions are HUGE. Two giant catfish fillets, perfectly breaded, fresh and so flavorful (do not skip on the vinegar based hot sauce on the table-so good!) The mac and cheese was creamy and flavorful, the cabbage was perfectly cooked with smoked sausage, and the cornbread dressing was moist without being too sage heavy. The lemonade was also home made and totally elite! I already have plans to go back this Thursday when they have oxtails!

The parking is great and the building is easy to get to. This is old school cafeteria style so you can see what you're getting. I really appreciate my visit. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with such warmth and hospitality. The hostess was incredibly sweet, even taking a picture of our family for us. We were seated promptly, and the service remained excellent throughout our visit. I ordered the Soulful Egg Rolls, a Peach Lemon Drop (I believe that was the name), the pork chop meal, and a slice of bourbon pecan pie to go since I had a flight to catch later that day. Let me just say--the Soulful Egg Rolls were AMAZING! I wish I had ordered more to take home. I let my cousin try one, and she immediately placed an order for her own. Everyone in our group loved their meals. My cousins ordered the catfish, which was seasoned to perfection, and the mac and cheese was hands down some of the best I've ever tasted. I was honestly wishing I had ordered some for myself! Another cousin ordered the chicken and waffles and couldn't stop talking about how good they were. When I finally got home, my pork chop meal was just as delicious as I remembered, and that bourbon pecan pie was one of the best pecan pies I've ever had. Honestly, I would fly back to Louisville just to eat here again. The food, service, and atmosphere were all a 10 out of 10. If you're visiting Louisville and looking for incredible soul food, do yourself a favor and check this place out. You won't be disappointed!

Two stars. My…read moreprevious review was posted nearly two years ago, so I'm not sure why it's showing as if it were written more recently. Unfortunately, this establishment appears to be on the decline. The exceptional food and standout service we experienced during earlier visits have noticeably diminished over my last three visits. While menu prices have steadily increased by roughly $3 to $9 per item over the past year, the quality of the food, portion sizes, and overall service have all declined. During our most recent visit, many of the items we came for were unavailable. After waiting for about 30 minutes, we ultimately decided to leave. At these price points, it's unreasonable to expect guests to settle for limited options. And if there are significant menu limitations, they should be communicated upfront! Service was also a concern. There were only two servers for the entire restaurant, and while our server, Kay, is typically excellent, she seemed overwhelmed and off her game. After a long wait, we placed an appetizer order, only to wait even longer before she returned and asked if we wanted appetizers. Are you kidding me right now? I think that was the moment I was over this place. She proceeded to tell us the collard green dip wasn't available along with three or four other items we were considering. We had been left waiting for an item that was never coming. Absolutely bogus. Adding to the frustration, a manager stopped by to ask if we had placed our orders. When we said no, he did not offer to take them and simply moved on. I understand that rising food costs and staffing challenges are real issues, but they do not excuse a decline in quality and service. My place setting was not clean. There was a nearby table that ordered Sprite but was served Sierra Mist. And my friend's $50 short ribs resembled a cut of roast. Fried mushrooms are now $19! And fried chicken is $24 for four pieces...that's 6/piece! Including the drumstick! Unacceptable. The prices showing on Yelp are not accurate. They need to be updated. And I am never excited when an establishment chooses to add an automatic gratuity to my bill. That's a red flag, too. On a positive note, the music was enjoyable and parking was convenient. Still, the overall experience was disappointing. I enjoy supporting Black-owned businesses. So these experiences are especially disheartening. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements. If not, the end is near. Do better, Dasha Barbour's.

Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

Four of us had an excellent experience for our dinner in Louisville, and besides the food, a lot of that experience was due to our server, Julie. She was great, super friendly and professional, and expertly answered a ton of Bourbon-related questions from my Bourbon loving friend. My wife and I dove into the Southern theme and had a Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16), Southern Colada ($16), Fried Green Tomatoes ($10), and a Southern Gumbo ($10) for dinner. I ordered the Fried Gren Tomatoes to share with the table, and they were wonderful - "Five full moon green tomatoes fried in cornmeal and panko, topped with fresh chives and served with Doc's Remoulade". They were light as a feather, most definitely non-greasy and had a great crunch from the panko and cornmeal. My Southern Gumbo (A hearty stew filled with andouille sausage, chicken and vegetables in savory Cajun broth served over rice. Served with cornbread) was excellent. Great flavor, great spice, plenty of sausage and chicken, and excellent accompaniments in the rice and cornbread. And how could I not mention my Southern Colada, with Michter's US*1 Sour Mash, Pineapple Juice & Coconut. It was quite a bit stronger than any Colada I ever had, but I guess that can be expected when you use an 86-proof small batch Kentucky whiskey in your Colada. Of course, I loved it. This was our second visit to Doc Crow. We were there a few days ago as the first stop on our Louisville food tour and enjoyed a delicious bowl of shrimp and grits. The Doc sure treated us well. I ordered the Mac n cheese and braised greens, and the Mac n cheese was really good and creamy. The braised greens were just okay, it wasn't the best greens I've had and it could use extra flavor. I don't know if this is a thing they do at Doc Crow's, but in my opinion the bartender excessively kept asking me what I wanted even while I was still looking at the menu. This definitely frustrated me since it was clear that I wasn't ready yet. I think she should have done a better job reading my cues to figure out when I am ready to order.
