I was here to see a play on the main stage. Akuma-shin was in its second night of its world premier at Sacred Fools. As Michael T. said in his review, the company is a risk taker. It was a bad night in a way because it was the evening before Easter. There were more people in the cast than in the audience. That's always a challenge for the actors, I would assume, but it was a challenge to which the rose. The theatre itself is very comfortable and it's perfectly laid out. The production cleverly unfolded with actors in unexpected places. As it turned out, the script was not one of which I was fond. After a giant monster destroys Tokyo, the play is what ensues after the destruction and how it changes history. A shoutout to a very talented cast but especially to Corey Klemow as William F. Buckley Jr. Those of us who lived through the Buckley era could see how Mr. Klemow nailed all of Buckley's eye rolls, head movements, and his general disdain for people to be of less intellect than him--or so he thought. When I'm coming to Los Angeles again for a weekend of theatre, I'll always check to see what Sacred Fools has to offer. PS: I was told that Buster Keaton used to film in the building and there's a star on a sidewalk near the theatre. Hollywood history!

Productions here are created by the Department of Theatre and they put on some very high quality shows! I've seen musicals, comedies, and dramas here - there are about four shows per year happening in this space (not including special events like a musical theatre workshop final performance). The theatre is a black box space and is reconfigurable. At the time of this review it was set up as a small proscenium-style theatre with audience seating on just one side but I've also seen it used as a thrust space - with audience seating on three sides. Once I saw a show there where the seating was modified to be "in the round." Since September of 2013 shows in the space have included Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, The Seagull, Servant of Two Masters, Electricidad, Bat Boy: The Musical, Learned Ladies, and two Harold Pinter one-acts. Seating is provided for roughly 130 guests and this is a new, state-of-the-art space that is exciting to visit. I'd highly recommend a night out at the theatre here - tickets are about $20 or less for all Department of Theatre shows. Students, staff, and faculty get discounts!

Each performer, however large or small their role, did a phenomenal job transporting you to ancient Italy. The architecture of the Mountain View Mausoleum really supported this setting and I loved the way the space was used. The interactive aspect is what really makes these performances unique. You will definitely get separated from your original group, led off in smaller ones, or at times, one on one with a performer. Complimentary drinks are served prior to the performance as well as a souvenir to take home. Easiest 10 out of 10 I can give. GO SEE IT!

You are immersed into the story within earshot of the actor, walking down the dark, long, candle lit corridors right alongside the characters. You transcend the grand staircases with the villain or hero. You're sitting right in the church where all the scandalous affairs are revealed. And yet the whole time it is as if you yourself are a part of the cast and story and yet you are not. Forever damned in limbo... Which makes the experience all that more exciting. It begs the question, are we the ghosts or are they? The sound effects and lighting are spectacular. The production is very impressive for the scale. This has the potential to revolutionize theater in a way that keeps it relevant and competitive to cinema. Fewer people will, in essence, be able to experience it, which is worth paying a little bit more than a movie ticket for just for the experience and memories created. Mausoleum is a monumentally gorgeous architecture. Once the night falls and the candles light the hallways and spooky music echo the quarters, this place really turns into a magical otherworldly place indeed. Don't come alone, come at least 2, you'll each experience different bits of the story as you'll get split up... and afterwards you'll want to spend the night piecing it all together! so fun.... so magical. Highly highly recommend! They deserve the communities' support, admiration and love for all the hard work they put into bringing live theater to the world. And they hire an amazing ensemble of talented actors many of whom I can tell have extensive training in improvisation and theatre. Great work done Downtown Repertory Theater! A 20-minute intermission is wild, especially when the kids are already getting tired. Concessions were also steep -- $10 for a box of popcorn is not cool. We were expecting a bit more in the show (like a contortionist or trapeze act), which never materialized. The kids still had a great time, but for the ticket price, the overall talent felt a bit uneven. There were several juggling drops, and the marksman needed three tries to hit his target. In short, enjoyable for families with young kids, but expect a lot of filler and some rough edges for the price.

When you come around the corner and get that initial glance of the theater your heart skips a beat at its allure. It's an (all volunteer) community theater. It relies on volunteers and donors to keep it operating. In 2019, it is celebrating 61 years. They're doing something right. The 2019 season has some great shows lined up. Just passed was To Kill A Mockingbird and Sweeney Todd. Currently showing is Disney's original movie adapted for the stage, High School Musical. Coming up is Avenue Q, Proof, Much Ado About Murder, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Pippin and more. Check their website for dates and times. There isn't a bad seat in the house. It seats 185. If you have yet to see a production at this endearing, little theater, I urge you to find a show you'd like to see and not delay any longer. Buy tickets and go!

However, the biggest issue by far was the pricing for the kids' inflatable rides. Charging almost $10 per child for a very simple inflatable slide where kids basically just climb up and slide down for a minute or two feels extremely overpriced and honestly pretty unreasonable. It completely takes advantage of families with small children. If the food and activities are already priced this high, then charging admission on top of everything else doesn't really make sense. The experience wasn't terrible, but definitely not worth the total cost for a family outing.

He was able to go on the little swings which were fun but a less than 5 minute ride will set you back $9. I was happy to pay the food prices but the pastries were pretty expensive and I the person who was helping me was really pushy about buying more than the amount that I wanted. I ended up spending close to $50 for 5 pastries. I was weak! But the baklava was supreme. My son really liked watching the musicians play but holy moly was it LOUD. My ears were ringing even after I left the festival. However, I would come back again in the future. I think it would be fun to come with some friends and drink beers and eat Greek food all day.
