I contacted them to see if they had certain bottles of bourbon in stock and was informed by a young lady ,they don't tell customers if they are in stock. I informed the young lady I would be driving from Chicago and she stated it doesn't matter. read more

I like everything about this place other than the tater hunting bourbon bros you occasionally have to listen to if you need a bottle of Mellow Corn, Evan Williams BiB, or whatever. The one time I did attempt to avail myself of their services, the bourbon guy just gestured noncomittally and seemed disappointed that I only had 30 bucks to spend on a bottle. I thought I was living large but he was unimpressed! In that neighborhood, such treatment of a customer just uncivil and stupid. It's open early, its open late. And early. My favorite liquor store in the city, if I'm being honest. Great people watching, and you never know what's gonna happen. The Rural Inn has been family owned and operated since 1945, and is both a liquor store and a tavern. Behind what has been seen as an intimidating neighborhood or exterior is a vast selection of local brews, with a walk-in specifically dedicated to over 200 seasonal & craft beers and a super friendly staff. I was recently lucky enough to get an invitation to a beer tasting and was fully educated on the history of the establishment and their offerings. The owner, Ray, was super nice and looking to get the word out with the help of their marketing extraordinaire, Marge. Both were gracious hosts, looking for feedback on how to better serve the community. Check out Ray's blog on their website for beer reviews and suggestions. On the tavern side, you can get a stiff drink cheaper then most other places, with bottled domestics starting at $1.25. They have several pool tables (50 cents) and a jukebox for your entertainment. While they don't have a kitchen, they do have menus for local restaurant delivery service. Because it's attached to the Liquor store, they aren't open on Sunday. If you're looking for something in particular, you can send a message and they'll let you know if they have it or can get it for you. This location just a few minutes out of downtown Indy used to be the hidden gem of finding those special bottles of liquor you were looking for but now it has become a normal stopping point for most people looking for those bottles. The store always has great store picks and will take care of you. They do have a good selection of beers as well and kegs. A bar is attached to to the store with some pool tables as well. read more

I've driven past the Rural Inn many times. I'd written it off as a generic liquor store that probably wouldn't stock the beers that I'm looking for. After reading the reviews and a friend recommending it to me, I decided to stop in. Initially your met with the "typical" liquor store offerings. Lots of inexpensive wine and beer line the walls and shelves. However they've got a great, albeit, small walk in cooler with tons of great beer at very competitive prices. If you know what you're after and happen to be in the area, Rural Inn has a great selection and competitive prices. read more

The Rural Inn is a gem hidden in a rough neighborhood. Once you get past the people begging for change for a forty at the front door you'll find a great selection of liquors and beer. They have a walk-in beer fridge stocked with craft beer. They also sell kegs from the macro-brewers. Never again. Once you get past the gauntlet of panhandlers hounding you for money, you'll likely be treated to scowls and insults from the staff, who set uncompromising standards for rudeness. And contrary to other reviews I have seen, the prices and selection are NOT extraordinary. You'll likely spend more treating your knife wounds than the few pennies you'll save buying the skunked, stale product they offer. Yes, skunked, stale product.
