I took a shotgun that I had inherited from my grandfather to Stone Range Gunsmithing on April 29,…read more2019. After speaking with the gunsmith about what I wanted to have done, he assured me that it could be handled and it was something he felt very comfortable doing. The Stone Range Gunsmithing website talks specifically about restoration work so I trusted his word. We agreed to a price and I asked how long it would take. The reply I got was 6-8 weeks. I tried to call several times and you can't get through on their phone. All you get is a voicemail saying the shop hours and you can set up an appointment online. After 20 weeks with no call I went in with my father and the gunsmith said he was behind but would get to my shotgun in his next round of bluing. I again asked if he thought he would be able to bring it back near what it was when my grandfather had it and his response was "it will look nearly brand new". I received a call on October 23, 2019 saying my gun was ready. This was one week shy of 6 months (clearly not 6-8 weeks). I went to pick it up and was shocked to see that it looked almost identical to the condition in which I left it. There was very clear pitting and the stock was not good. The gunsmith said the stock didn't come out as well as he thought and offered to take off the $80 charge for that. I was still very bothered by the condition of the receiver and the barrels. The gunsmith told me that the pitting was deeper than anticipated and that was as good as he could do. I left Stone Range and went straight to another gunsmith. After talking about the shotgun, they assured me that the work that was done could be repaired. The second gunsmith ran a swab down both barrels and came out showing that my shotgun had not even been cleaned. I left the shotgun with the second gunsmith. I have already received a follow up call from the second gunsmith saying the shotgun had been disassembled and it was clear the first gunsmith had not even taken the gun apart for the restoration I hired him to do. We have pictures of the disassembled gun clearly showing years of dirt that was not even looked at by the gunsmith at Stone Range. After expressing my displeasure with the work that had been done by Stone Range, I told the owner that I would be writing this review. I was met by waiving hands as he stormed to the back of his shop. With the sub-par work performed and the lack of communication/professionalism from the owner of Stone Range, I would not recommend anyone use this company for any restoration work whatsoever. It is going to take a considerable amount of time and money to redo what should have been done at Stone Range from the beginning. UPDATE 10/25/2019 I have attached pictures that were taken by the second gunsmith 1 hour after I picked my shotgun up from Stone Range.

The cost was very reasonable and Wes was professional while being a genuinely kind person to be in the company of. My mom and dog will agree! I've already recommended them to friends and neighbors. Prior to the onsite appointment, he had researched the inventory list I had emailed him so he was already prepared when he arrived, and was very informative and engaging while performing a thoroughly precise evaluation of every piece. He emailed me that evening with a detailed appraisal! I can't recommend them enough and you won't regret supporting this wonderful family business!

I badley needed some advice and some work done on a type-1, grade1 (old) Belgian Browning Bar. Left it for some work. While I was there I spotted a type 1, grade ll Belgian Browning Bar in the displace case. The marked price was more that fair. I had been looking for exactly that model for years. I did not hesitate to buy it. I am thrilled with my rifle purchase, the expertice, professional skill and customer care I received. A round trip to Mac's is an 80 mile trip for me (Hawkins, to the North). I passed several gun shops on the way. It was well worth the effort for me. Mac's is now MY gun store. My only gun store. Do yourself a big favor and do business there. At least visit and meet the guys. Stop by several times. I guarantee you'll be impressed.
