I brought in my old 1996 Lowe 16 foot fishing boat that wasn't running all that great. It's maybe a $5000 boat. Seriously, go elsewhere for your repair work. My husband and I bought a used boat from a private owner whom had had some work done by Big Sky Boats a year ago, last winter. We purchased the boat before Memorial Day last year, and took the boat to the lake. It started, we let it warm up, backed away from the dock, motored slowly out past the "no wake" zone and hit the throttle......nothing. Boat stalled. Restarted, let it idle for a minute, and hit the throttle....nothing again. Started boat and slowly motored back to the dock and trailered the boat. When we got back to work, I stopped by BSB to address what happened. Previous boat owner had mentioned a 90 day warranty on the work performed as the work had been performed during the winter months and therefore unable to be tested. Dustin, the owner of BSB, was sorry to hear about it and told us to bring the boat in and he would check it out. So we brought the boat in. Six weeks later, he finally says it is ready to go. We pick it up, head to the lake again, launch the boat, SAME RESULTS AS FIRST TRIP. Load the boat back up, take it back to BSB, Dustin says he will get it worked in asap. Explain to him that the idle can only be adjusted under load for the particular Mercury outboard motor on our boat. Dustin says that they will take it down to the river on the trailer to adjust it under load. SIX WEEKS LATER, after many drop bys to see if our boat is done, they claim it is ready. Had rebuilt the carbs, yada, yada. Took the boat to the lake for Labor Day Weekend, launched the boat, SAME RESULTS AS THE LAST TWO TRIPS!!! Pretty much seething by now. Load the boat, take it home and put it away for the season. Took it back to BSB, as Dustin promised to make it right, just as ice is coming off the water, per Dustin's request. He PERSONALLY GUARANTEED to take the boat to the lake the first nice day that the ice was off and adjust the motor. But first, he would check out the compression, fuel pump, etc. No problem. THREE WEEKS LATER, Dustin tells me he is just too busy to take my boat to the lake. I said he could just run it down to the river like he said he was going to last summer. He agreed, the next week it was still in the same spot. I hitched up our boat from where it sat since I dropped it off (moved in the lot once), and took it to another shop. Low and behold, fuel pump needed to be rebuilt, fuel is leaking from two of the newly rebuilt carbs, low compression on all six cylinders, recommend rebuilding the motor in the not so distant future. No problem! In fact, sending it out to be rebuilt now. Not afraid to spend the money if it would fix the problem. Nice to have a mechanic give it a thorough exam, and address the issues, and give a recommendation for repair. Not just lip service.
