First time trying Big Springs Tavern. We were warmly greeting at the front door by the sweetest waitress ever. Then the barkeep stopped by the table and visited. This is a really good place. I ordered the fish (Perch) tacos with an upgrade to the garlic fries. The others had the chicken fingers, fish sandwich and chicken wings. Their homemade slaw was really good. Really good!! read more

I know this place as Big Spring Tavern. If you plan a visit to Palm Book State Park site of Kitch-iti-Kipi spring, then Big Spring Tavern is a must stop either before or after you visit the spring. Our party of four had the Reuben Sandwich and chips along with a beer of course. It was the best Reuben I've ever eaten. I just wish I didn't live so far away because I would go back for another one. The owners are very friendly and take great pride in their business. So, be sure to stop and enjoy the great food and atmosphere. read more

Classic up north lodge setting, noticeably clean, with an attractive bar and seating area. Ordered fish baskets (off menu). The perch and bluegill were fresh, expertly prepared and delicious. Served with slaw and choice of potato. Sweet potato fries were a fine choice. Drinks generous. Prices reasonable. Service attentive. A good value. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. 1) very nice vibe with a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere 2) great service. Our server checked on us regularly and had great timing, friendly and helpful. 3) our meals were delicious. I had the 8 oz steak with baked potato and grilled vegetable. To my delight, the veg was broccoli and cauliflower, delicious!--no squash at all. DD had Southwest pasta with chicken. Delicious with a little bit of zing, and huge serving. Our meals came with side salads, which were huge and super fresh. 4) lots of choices of quality beers. Negative: the restaurant has a Pepsi sign outside but serves Coke. :-( read more

I forgot to take a photo of our order. We ordered from Big Springs after a day of checking out the area. Unfortunately this was not the best or even an alright experience. We ordered burgers, fries and cheese curds. They did ask how we wanted our burgers cook and we asked for medium and they were past well. The bun was hard on the outside and soggy on the inside due to the grease. The fries tasted like they were baked in the oven but greasy and not hot. The cheese curds were the same way. It was very disappointing since it was recommended to us. If we had not ordered take-out we would have said something at that moment but, from the sounds of the lady who took our order, she was not happy to be there that day. If we are in the area in the near future we will give them another try and eat instead of take-out. Even though we were just across the street staying in a cabin and travel 5 minutes with the food. Hope things get better for them. read more

First off it's hit or miss with food even at your own table. Like another review said the fish was soggy it was on special when we went so I thought hey it should be fresh and not like the review so I gave it a try. Negative even when not busy which we were the only table other then some people sitting at the bar the fish still wasn't good they couldn't figure out how to fry up fish I guess. As far as the service it was pretty slow. It was an hour to close but the employees were more concerned about getting out of work then serving their tables and people at the bar. It went as far as another couple came in after we did and with more than 30 min till they close the flipped there outside sign to say closed even though there was still more time till they closed they just didn't want more customers coming in and that's pretty sad. And when we were there we had to fill out by hand yes by hand our credit card slip. The numbers our name ...... I can't think of the last time I've ever seen that done before so if you are concerned about your credit card info I wouldn't come here cause they say it happens often and if I would've known that we would've never came here. read more

Horrendous. Stopped around noon on a Tuesday. Only the bartender was working the lunch hour rush - took over an hour and a half to get our food. The ONLY reason we didn't leave while waiting was because we felt bad she was working alone - didn't want to hold that against her as you could see she was busting her butt. But then the food came out - app was still frozen in the middle. Our meal was wrong - and my BLT sandwich had a crispy hornet in the middle of it. Spotted it as I was going to take a bite and completely lost my appetite. The bartender gave us our entire meal for free - but was absolutely disgusting food. We went to Big Springs Inn with another couple last week and had a great meal. While the address reads Manistique, the restaurant is tucked into the Hiawatha National Forest, giving it a remote oasis feel. As appetizers, we shared deep-fried pickles and green beans, which were lightly battered so as not to be too overbearing. Since that wasn't nearly enough deep-fried food, we ordered the perch as an entree, also lightly battered and incredibly tender. As advertised, their beer selection was exceptional, with many regional craft breweries represented. My new favorite U.P. beer, Blackrocks 51K IPA, was served on tap. Needless to say, it was hop heaven. read more

Great food What a great find. It's about 15 minutes outside of the downtown area but very much worth the trip. We were looking for good food after a long days travel on our way to Mackinac Island, We found all we were looking for Big Springs Inn. In addition to great food they were very accommodating and the service was terrific (Autumn was our server). The perch dinner was very tasty and generous in portion and the Prime rib sandwich was really good. They have several home made salads on their salad bar that were really tasty and original as well. The place is newly remodeled and has a supper club feel to it. It will be a regular stop for us whenever we are driving by on our way through Manistique. Following Michigan M-149 to this place is a bit tricky and a winding road that makes a couple of turns but just watch for the signs. Its very much worth the trip even if your coming through on US 2. read more

We stopped here for dinner after visiting the Big Spring. We had the Friday Fresh Fish Fry Special with beer battered perch and up graded to sweet potato fries. The fries came with a brown butter dip that my husband loved! The meal also came with green beans that were perfectly pan seared and slightly blackened. Homemade mac n cheese was on special instead of soup. It was very good and my boys raves about it. The service was very friendly and accommodating. This was a great stop on our road trip. read more

Stopped here in a group of 10 on snowmobiles 2.21.15. Our food was exceptional but the service was horrible. I had the ultimate grilled cheese with bacon and my husband had the big spring burger. Everyone in our party commented on how good their food was. On the other hand, we sat for almost 10 minutes before one of us got fed up enough to ask for menus. We waited another 10 for a drink order and 10 minutes to get our drinks. We had to go up to the bar to get refills on our drinks. They were understaffed to begin with and the heavyset guy behind the bar had no sense of urgency. I will give them another chance to redeem themselves because the food was so good. read more

Disappointed in the service the other day. My steak was cooked well but my friends whitefish was mushy. When you are the only people at the bar you shouldn't have to wait 15 min to get a beer refilled. Only person that cared was the young cook that came out and asked us how the food was. read more

We had a delightful dinner here. The BBQ chicken. & bacon on a fresh bun and the regular or sweet potato fries were delicious. Service was fast and friendly! A comfortable local bar worth visiting. A good beer list too, which the waitress was well-versed in. read more

Good food. Nice beer selection including some nice craft beers. Need better wine selection but a fun sports bar with nice new flat screen TVs. Occasionally run out of menu items but all in all another decent choice for a restaurant in the area. read more

My family stays at Gerometta's Resort down the road every few summers. We came to eat on the Saturday we arrived. We got our drinks, and ordered our food. A few of us asked for our burgers done medium, they came out well done and dry. The bill came and they double charged our drinks and some of our meals. Oh well it happens I guess. Today we went again as a family we told our waitress we were on 2 separate tabs, about 8 people each tab. Again, we had burgers asked for medium, they came well done. Here comes our bill, they double charged and even triple charged on beer, fountain drinks, burgers, everything. Took the waitress 4 different times to get it right and spent a good 30-40 minutes for US to figure it out. Being a waitress and bartender myself, it was the worst service and food I've ever had. It's not that hard to get it right the first time. She blamed the computer...thumbs down and 0 stars. read more
