Wheaty's is a bar and serves bar food with your typical and not-so-typical bar drinks. My husband and I don't drink, so I can't tell you about the beverages --sorry! However, I can tell you about The Food, Respect Toward COVID, and their Work Ethic. The Food -- we ordered Deep Fried Pickles, which are hands-down the best fried pickles we've ever had (and we like fried pickles). They were spicy, but not too spicy. It tasted like the pickle itself was spicy and the panko had its own, unique seasoning. I wish they served those as a side dish to the sandwich instead of the fries! I ordered the "Wheaty's Wings" which claim to come with '7 Mammoth wings with every order' and they were some huge wings-- this is a real meal! I ordered plain wings and they were crispy and juicy and hot. Excellent! My husband ordered the Cordon Bleu Sandwich which has a juicy, seasoned chicken beast with Swiss and ham -- think chicken cordon bleu meets hoggie! He woofed that down! We ordered fries with the sandwich for a couple dollars more and they were okay... definitely not the same level of culinary skill as the rest of the food we ordered, we had to add lots of salt (Which is good that they don't load them with salt for people who can't tolerate that) and they still weren't so great. Respect Toward COVID -- Masks are required in order to enter this bar and she's serious! When you walk in, she sanitizes a table for you right there. She is constantly washing her hands and wearing a mask. As I watched her, I saw her touch her face about 3 times and each time she cleaned her hands in some fashion. She sanitizes bar stools, the bar -- she's on top of this. The chef is washing her hands and wearing a mask. There are only 2 women running the whole place and while they're doing all of their work, they're also constantly sanitizing. When people come in off the street and there's no where for them to sit, she gives them the option to sit on patio where they won't get food or drink service, but they can wait and she'll come and get them when a table is free or they can purchase a drink and sit and drink it outside. The tables are spaced more than 6 feet apart and the whole bar can maybe seat 30 max. Work Ethic -- there are 2 women running this VERY busy bar. The Front House Manager and the Chef. They're taking to-go orders and bussing tables and refilling drinks and sanitizing and washing their hands and reminding people to wear masks and every few minutes someone comes in off the street and wants to know when they can get a table. And they're doing it flawlessly! We were there around 9:30pm on a Saturday, so I imagine it was a long day of doing that constantly, but both women were exceptionally polite and answered questions and payed close attention to guests and we never had to wait longer than a few minutes for anything. Food was pretty good. Had backed wings, side salad and Mediterranean taco. Had 12 people walk in and sit down after us, they were all waited on and got their drinks and some of their food before we even had a server speak to us. A quick bite ended up being 2 hours! read more

This is on of our local establishments that is a bar that serves food. They just added a beautiful addition with a cozy fireplace and windows all around to take in the atmosphere of the downtown area and the weather elements. The staff always are hustling and have great attitudes and even though their kitchen is small they turn out some of the best tasting food. Wings, smash burgers, greek tacos are one of my favorites, tzatziki sauce with pita chips.... And so many more choices. First let me say I am not a fan of breaded wings, which is what they offer. I gave them a try, and while were good they were more like pieces of breaded fried chicken than what one would usually expect for wings. The sauce was very good. My wife had the boneless wings, which she liked and enjoyed the crinkle cut fries. My son had the chicken tacos which he really liked. The waitress/bartender was pleasant enough, but we definitely felt like out of towners are not her favorite customers. To be fair they probably get some people in from time to time that aren't respectful of locals in what is very obviously a local bar. If you are expecting traditional buffalo style wings, you might be disappointed. If you are looking for a different take on wings or just solid bar food, it is worth a visit. read more

An older gentleman made some rather off-color remarks but both she and the couple next to me let me know right away that they don't go for that sort of stuff which made me feel much better. Going in, I wasn't expecting much from this little dive bar. The menu was small, it was just a few locals sitting there, and there was only one waitress. She suggested their wings, saying that they were voted the best in the state. Holy crap, was she right! They were so good! Way better than B-Dubs. We each got a flavor and split it all among us. Delicious. The waitstaff wasn't that great. She was kind of gruff and us, being out-of-towners, she wasn't very polite, yet to the locals, she was their best friend. We were ignored for much of the meal, as she was busy talking and joking with the locals sitting at the bar. My beer was empty for most of the meal. We might come back here, but only for the food. The waitstaff sucked. And why are there no damn doors on any of the stalls?! I feel like that's against some sort of code. read more

New owners of a classic old downtown bar. Very friendly staff and owner. Lots of beer options besides what one wold normally expect in a local tavern. Clean as a whistle. I didn't have time to sample it, but I was told that they have the best bar burger in the UP. We will definitely be stopping back on our way through town. read more

Was overnighting in Manistique with a group of guys on a motorcycle trip and wanted to eat at the Cedar Creek Cafe. However, even on a Saturday it seems that almost EVERYTHING is closed by 3:00 pm. Cedar Creek was closed and we figured we had to walk to Big Boy in town. However, right down the block from Cedar Creek was Wheatys Pub. We thought.. what the heck. I'm glad we did First, excellent beer on tap? check Second, good bartender/waitress? check Third, great food? check As a group of 4 guys we can be kind of a bit to deal with. The bartender/waitress dealt with us just fine and gave us back as much sass as we gave her. She had a great sense of humor and was very attentive. We ordered up a bunch of appetizers and they were all pretty decent. Not homemade, but still good quality, nicely cooked, good and hot (mushrooms, fries and onion rings). Burgers were OUTSTANDING. Fresh beef (not frozen), patties were handmade. Cooked perfectly with good toppings. One of the better burgers I've had for only 8 bucks. Overall an excellent find in terms of food and fun. We were there earlier this summer and it was a huge disappointment. All of us had heard really great things about the food and friendly atmosphere of this place but it was unsatisfactory to say the least. The bar tender was serving food and touching everything including busing tables and I didn't see her wash her hands. I'm not a germaphobe but geeze at least rinse off your hands after you wipe down a table or the bar top. In addition to not being very clean the bartender, someone said her name was KARA, was really friendly to some people that she seemed to know but gave us the cold shoulder and never checked back with us after we were served.
